Oh, thank heavens! I was hoping I'd misunderstood that! I'm so glad I did! (I know what you mean, about not getting why people would think you'd put a boy in a flowered car seat...people are goofs!)

I'm really glad I took that wrong-thanks for clearing it up!

People are goofs... thank goodness we don't have the carseats anymore, but I still get "it's two boys" when my daughter is clearly wearing a bow! It drives me insane really it does. I really do want to try to think of something clever to say back to them, but I am not a confrontational type of person.

holy cow i had a bad one today! this is the first time i've ever had someone be outright nasty so i'm kind of stunned.

we took the boys for a walk in our baby carrier harnesses, one strapped to DH and one strapped to me. we walked down the road to the lake and back, and when we were almost home we passed a neighbor who was out in her driveway talking to another woman (we don't know many of our neighbors so neither woman was familiar). the one who lived there was nice and said, "oooh! twin babies!" the other woman sneered, like an actual unmistakable sneer, and snorted, "yeah that ought to keep you busy." we just smiled and kept walking and said, "they sure do" in a chipper way, like we don't mind being kept busy. the fact that we didn't act all chagrined seem to anger the woman so she shouted after us, "i mean FOREVER." and then she walked off the other direction.

what the hell would possess someone to be that negative to a total stranger? how did she justify that to herself in her mind? did she think she was helping us by making sure we didn't have any lingering optimism about our life with two children? i just don't understand why she was so spiteful and why she felt she had to follow her comment with something even more spiteful when we didn't accept her pessimism.

it was really an unbelievable situation. i'm still mad. <_<

My FAVORITE Question I get is "Are they Identical???", which is HILARIOUS to me because I have BOY/GIRL twins!!! I think sometimes they don't realize what they are asking. . .I usually politely say no, and try not to make them feel dumb. But it is certainly tempting sometimes!!

Oh, I know-yesterday in Tesco, there was a lady with her baby and she did the horrible sneer and said, really loud "They might have two, but ours is prettier!" I turned around, and said, just as loud "ALL babies are beautiful but jealousy is a very ugly thing!" To his credit, her husband was just horrified and came up to me in the aisle and apologized.

Um, well, to be perfectly honest...I didn't know the difference between identical/fraternal twins until i was pregnant with twins

I get all the same comments....but I did notice that it does depend where you are...for example I live in a small town in Oregon, everyone LOVES to chat with you, when we go down to southern Calif we don't get nearly the same amount of attention...Bottom line if you don't like it MOVE..OK I AM SO KIDDING!!! The one comment that baffles me is "oh Wow i'm so jealous" and I do get alot!!! Here's what I do when I'm in a hurry...No eye contact, pretend i'm on the phone...it works!!! Try to enjoy your celebrity status! It is rather COOL! :D

the other thing that bugs me is that i get a lot of people who want me to regale them with gushing emotional displays of the gratitude and joy i get from having a "double blessing." like my neighbor the other day who so obviously wanted me to tell her how sweetly special my days are with my matching set of adorable little twinsies. when i instead replied, "oh they've been so crabby all weekend," her face crumpled and she corrected me and said, "but i'm sure they're just wonderful most of the time." why yes, i happen to think my children are wonderful, but it's not my job to help you imagine the happy fluffy sweet fun life of two adorable matching babies.

so i guess for me i loathe the opposite of the "you must have your hands full" comments. i loathe the ones that imply that i'm not allowed to have my hands full because surely my life is something so extra special and precious.

I actually get that a lot too, along with "I'm so jealous!" Or "I've always wanted twins!" (Mostly during pregnancy obviously since my twins are still newborns, but now as well.) I get those at least as often as the "You('ll) have your hands full" and "ohhhh twin BOYS, double trouble!" types and I can understand how both extremes can be annoying--having twins certainly has its joys and its challenges and it can be annoying when others want to just focus on one or the other.

you know i don't think it ends. i hear things like double trouble, how do you do it, and really do people really not know that twins that are opposite sex can't be identical twins. its impossible. i get frustrated as well. and it always feels like you are in the spotlight every where you go. i just smile and respond then when all the kids are asleep i leave them with my husband for an hour and head to the gym and throw all my negative energy in to my work out or i take a walk for half hour to and hour with my mp3 player.

It's funny...I live in SoCal and almost everyone has something to say about having twins! I was in MA over the holidays and hardly anyone said anything...or if they did, just smiles.

Guess I'm the odd one out here ;)

I have never heard a rude or negative remark made toward us or the twins.

The usual questions of "Are they twins?" don't bother me at all, since they are conversation starters, and most people think multiples are pretty novel, and like to look and comment. Every comment has always been followed up by a compliment.

The double trouble, etc. comments don't bother me at all. Just rhyming typical phrases about twins.
I actually LOVE the attention we get, and hope it doesn't end.
Too many miserable years with empty arms, I suppose.
I'm basking in the glory of motherhood - twin motherhood, at that!! :D

I love this one! I have actually responded, "yes, they are completely identical except that he has a penis and she has a vagina." You should have seen the look I got. Usually, I am nice, but that was a bad day! :)
