Will you be dressing your twins alike?

We are having identical girls and i am not really planning on dressing them the in matching outfits. The reason for that is I have an older daughter who will be 17months when the twins get here. I don't want my older daughter to think that the twins are the same and she is different. I mean, i want all of them to feel like they are siblings. I am afraid the twin bond will be too strong and they will not be close to their bigger sis. So, DH and I agreed that we will try to raise the twins like separate people. I don't know how well this will work because i have caught myself buying some matching stuff lately, lol.

My girls are dressed the same about 85-90% of the time. In the beginning it was almost all the time but as they're getting older, we're doing more coordinating. My older DD likes to get them dressed and insists that they wear completely different outfits so she can tell them apart. I've also heard that dressing them alike helps people to see the differences in them rather than the clothes.

I love the matchy matchy. My daughter is just a singleton, but my favorite place to shop is Gymboree. I love that I can get a matching sweater and hat to go with the dress, for example.

As for the twins, I think that I would prefer to dress them similarly. The other great thing about Gymboree is that the clothing is divided into "line". So there will be a number of outfits that coordinate around a single theme- like sailboats, for example. I think I would prefer two different sailboat outfits- that way, I can have them both in sailboat outfits, but it doesn't have to be the exact same outfit.

Of course, since I will have three girls total (twins and DD) so close in age (just about two years apart), I am thinking about having all three of them in sailboat outfits.

I did break down and get some identical outfits- at the big sales, there is not always much selection. I was lucky to find two little pairs of cords. I had hoped to find two different matching tops, but I could only find two of the same. Oh, and when Target was having Valentine's clearance, I got two little Carter's outfits with monkeys that say, "My heart belongs to Mommy"- good for year round, right? They were $1.50 each. Woohoo!

I would say no, I wont dress my identicals the same, but as some people say, never say never, until you are there! I said I wouldnt do ALOT of things with my first baby...and well lets just say I had no idea what I was saying :)
I definitly dont see the point of buying two of everything, so they can match. If they dress differently, you dont have to buy as much clothing/outfits, right?
GOOD POINT HERE: A friend of mine has identical boys, age 5 maybe, and they fight over who gets the blue jacket, or particular shoes...so to keep peace, she now says she buys them the same thing! I dont think its a daily thing, but she lets them get what they want...and it happens to be the same sometimes.
To each their own, no harm done right! They will have their own styles soon enough, and mom will have NO say in it :)

I work with a set of 6 year old twin boys. (I'm an sign language interpreter and 1 of the boys is Deaf). Well, for the past 2 years, they came to school in the same exact outfit, and it drove me up the wall. The one I work with (Deaf) is smaller than his twin so he gets the raw end of the deal with clothes a bit oversized JUST so they can have the same shirt or jacket. IT BUGS ME SO BAD....

right then and there I decided to NOT want to dress them alike. The boys, when I first started working with them, didn't have seperate identities, or any identity for that matter (a whole 'nother story) so it scared me to think they were just 1 in the same.

I like the idea of same outfit, different color... but I'm going to try so hard to not do this! I like the word someone used, HOKEY... :)

That's weird. My girls are totally different sizes. Sabrina is in 2T and Sydney in 4T. When they match, their clothes still fit them. I don't buy the same sizes of things, just ones that look alike in their own sizes.
