Laura (I'm obviously not OP but I thought I'd address your question). Our insurance only allows for one ultrasound unless it is medically necessary, and even then the doctor has to jump through crazy hoops to get our insurance to cover it.

The only reason I got an ultrasound at 9 weeks was that I'd had a loss 3 months earlier at 9 weeks, and my doctor knew I was a total basket case. After that I had roughly 80 ultrasounds, but, they were all medically necessary and covered. :D

Yeah I went in at 20 weeks for feeling so much more pressure (I have been feeling pretty bad pressure since 14 weeks)... and they found that I was starting to thin out some and I was 1cm dilated... I walked in and out of two stores yesterday (not a long walk either) and I have been in so much pain (in my pelvis and the baby (or babies... lol God I cant wait until Saturday! lol) feel like its going to fall out)... I was on moderate bed rest before... but with how things are going I think I will be on full bed rest from this point on with how much worse its all getting in such a short amount of time.

Thank you for sharing your story with me :)

Holy cow, no wonder you are going nuts!
I know every OB/insurance is different, but my office always does an u/s at the first appt to check for viability. I had mine at 11 weeks and there was NO mistaking the two babies. I was scared there might even be 3 for a minute lol. My Dr. even brought me back 2 weeks later to re-check growth and make sure there were in fact just 2 (which there are)

I can not imagine what you must be going through. I truly hope you are having twins so you can go back to your OB and say "Ok, now what??"
That seems so odd that they won't even check. I know my office is very precautious about multiples and knowing sooner, rather than later is very helpful.

Hopefully you will get the news you want on Saturday, keep us updated!!!

Thanks :) lol yeah... if I had seen my REAL doctor yesterday instead of the physicians assistant like I did then I know she would have listened and double checked... I cant wait until Saturday! lol I am beyond excited and I cant wait to find out what is going on... I want twins so bad now lol

I cant wait till you have your u/s! If it was me, and they do see 2 babies, then I would be marching my butt right over to that practice to show them.

I couldn't vote in the poll, but the first set was almost 21 weeks, almost fell off the table in shock.

Second set I found out at 16 weeks, was somewhat suprised.

Third set I found out at 10 weeks, the drs had to know right away 1st appt becasue of complications in 2nd twin preg.

4th set found out at 12 weeks, would have been suprised if it had been a singleton.

I found out we were having twins at 6 weeks 5 days. We had an early u/s since we had used IUI to get pregnant. We went in expecting one baby since I had only one follie during all of my u/s for the IUI. BUT it was very clearly twins from early on. It would have been easy to miss on the first u/s since they were not placed close together at all in my uterus and the only reason the second baby was found so early is because they were also checking for cysts. Otherwise the tech told me they usually stop checking after they find one healthy baby, especially since I only had one follie.
At 10 weeks I had an u/s in the emergency room and that tech also told me that she was glad she knew before starting that she was looking for 2 babies since she stops looking around after she finds one healthy baby.
After that if I was at the image center and not my doctor's office I always made sure the first thing I said was that I was carrying twins. At my 20 week u/s they knew they were looking for 2 babies to measure and had actually scheduled 2 appointment back to back to make sure they had enough time to measure both babies etc. I can see how if a tech was distracted and was only looking for one baby in a normally scheduled session that it could be missed even then. I have a good friend who was having a totally normal pregnancy and went for her 20 week u/s and they missed her twins as well. She didn't find out until she went into pre-term labor at 26 weeks.
By the time I was 23 weeks I was measuring about 31 weeks, so measurment wise you are pretty close to where I was at that point.
Jack was always kicking me in the ribs and James was always kicking my hip and it became pretty easy to tell who was doing what for me. It was weird to experience 4 feet kicking me at the same time 4 hands were hitting me. Sometimes there is a lot to be said for mother's intuition.

I can't wait to hear what you find out on Saturday!!

We didn't find out till 24 weeks but that was our first u/s. They had missed Jessy with the doppler because her entire body was above my belly button

We had to get the ultrasound done at the Abortion clinic because everywhere else charges and arm and a leg...

They didnt have the best ultrasound equipment at all... it was all fuzzy and you could hardly tell what was what... but supposedly there is only one giant monster of a baby in here. lol.... I wont be 100% convinced until one baby pops out and the placenta shortly after lol... but yeah... so two babies for me in less than a year still :) Irish Twins :)

As soon as I got out of the car the crazy people started praying for me... one offered me a pamphlet and I told her "No thank you... I go to church EVER Sunday and I am just getting an ultrasound"... then on my way out the same lady asked if I was sure I didnt want a pamphlet and I told her "No thank you... I have a bible at home by my bed and all I did was get an ultrasound"... she said "Its not a bible" and I told her "No, but Im sure it has all the same stuff in it"... My SO wasnt as nice... he got sick of them and held up Sophia and asked if they thought it was too late to "take care of this one" lol... I almost told them to shut up and if they wanted to pray for me they could stop praying for MY soul and pray that my baby stays in here long enough to live a healthy happy life.... but I didnt... I just got in my car and left... I was given ultrasound pics... but like I said... you cant tell what is what in the pictures just like you couldnt on the machine... so yeah...

Would it be weird to want to stay on this site and chit-chat with you all? I will have two babies in less than a year (Irish Twins) so thats pretty darn close to having twins in my book... if you all think not then I will leave for good... But thank you all for being so kind and helpful to me :) You guys are great!

    Veronica,

I can't believe they use such and old machine at an abortion clinic. I mean if it's that bad, how do they use it to see what they are doing. Or is it more for showing the woman her baby before she decides? Anyways, I would still be slightly wondering what is going on. Will you get anymore u/s before the birth? And what is your Dr. doing about you dilating?

    Do you have facebook?

Well CONGRATS on at least one healthy big baby. I know big babies, my last one was 10lbs 11oz. And who knows you are young, maybe you'll have twins if you keep on trying, lol. I often think about if I would have stopped after 4, I wouldn't have had my twins or my most recent. :)

I have no idea... the screen was 4 inches by 4 inches and it was so old and the image was so fuzzy and it was like a really bad TV channel you know? I scheduled myself for a 3d/4d ultrasound for September 9th :) I cant wait to see how similar she looks to my daughter Sophia and her 3d/4d ultrasound.

I am on moderate bed rest... they want to stick me on full strict bed rest but I have no one to watch the baby for me or help me so I am trying to do as little as possible. I lost a few small pieces of my mucus plug last night (which freaked me out)... but I heard that it can regenerate itself if lost too early. I also went to see my OB about the extreme pelvic pain and pressure I have been feeling and my cervix hasn't changed since they checked me at 20 weeks (thank God) but they gave me some muscle relaxers for when it gets unbearable.

I have a facebook but I don't ever get on it... I get on my myspace more if you have one of those you can add me as a friend ... just let me know where I know you from :) http://www.myspace.com/sorrowfulromance

I'm sorry the scan didn't show what you were hoping for, but at the end of the day, it looks like you have a happy healthy baby =)

You ladies were all so nice to me... I just wanted to give you all the latest update on the pregnancy. I am 25 1/2 weeks and at my appointment yesterday I found out that I am 1cm dilated but now am 80% effaced! My midwife is trying to get me approved for a cerclage and I have a fetal fibronectin test and ultrasound of my cervix scheduled for 11am tomorrow. With all the risks associated with getting a cerclage this late in pregnancy I'm not sure if I am willing to take that chance and I am seeking out a proper high risk doctor to discuss other options. Please keep us in your prayers. I will keep you all posted on what happens as things develop if you all want me to.

I found out at 21 weeks, at the regular scan. I had had two quick vaginal u/s prior to that too! One at 7 weeks, and one at 11 weeks, and they only saw one baby! I see you are in FL, I am in Fort Myers, are you nearby?

ETA...I just read your update. Please let us know how you are doing.

We found out at 13 weeks--first trip to a new OB and she did an u/s in the office--shocked me SO much--and dh was not with me!!

Sidenote--they almost always have old scanners in abortion clinics if they even have one at all--they don't necessarily want the mom to SEE a BABY, just a blob --seeing a real live baby might turn away some "business".....not trying to start a touchy subject, just fyi from what I've heard from previous abortion clinic workers.....

I went for the ultrasound... The first thing the tech said was "Whoa that baby's head is right there on the cervix!" She is also facing my spine... but my cervix is measuring 41mm which I guess is good, and the test came back negative which is awesome. Im not holding my breath though... it seems things go good for a bit then get bad, then better, then a million times worse.

I forgot to add that I was in the hospital again Wed. night because the Procardia wasn't stopping the contractions I was having all day... they ended up having to give me two shots to stop them and sent me home.
