The Importance of Being Kennedy by Laurie Graham. Its a fictional autobiography of a nanny to the Kennedy children from just before the birth of JFK to the late 40s. I'm enjoying it. I enjoy her books. Also recommend "Gone With The Windsors" and "Future Homemakers of America"

Please tell me that the plot line doesn't get overworked/boring. The first few books are good, but they recycle basically the same plot. And there is a violent death at the end of each.

The same tired plot is why I'm frustrated (close to fed up) with Janet Evanovich's numbers series.

I finished Game of Thrones by George RR Martin...awesome book...I can't read to read the rest in the series. I am almost done The Help and I am having a hard time putting that book down, a great read.

I just read a book called Lemon .. it was about an angsty teenager. It was ok, but had a lot of kids with cancer in it, so that made me a bit anxious.

Now I am reading the book thief for my book club. I really like the writing style but the story hasn't grabbed me yet.

Next on my list is the girl with the dragon tatoo.. I got it for Christmas and am curious!

 Just realized I wrote Family Ties instead of Family Tree! Must have had 80's TV shows on the brain!

Make that Barbara Delinsky's Family Tree (not Ties).

 Jori! I did not even notice that until you pointed it out. I thought it said Family Tree!

I finished the Help (loved it) and I finished a young adult book The Totally True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie...I thought it was a surprisingly good read. I got through it very quickly. Next up is the Girl Who Kicked a Hornet's Nest.

I just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain written fromthe dog's pov and really enjoyed it. A good read for dog lover's.

I am currently reading Eighteen Acres written by Nicolle Wallace, GWB's former communications chief. It is a work of fiction about a White House where there is a female president and Secretary of State. Fluff but a page turner.

yeah, hunger games was GREAT. but i loved them in the order they were written. the first was the best, the second good, the third was, eh.

Just finished Fall For Anything by Courtney Summers. Fantastic quick, YA contemp read. About to start Across the Universe by Beth Rivas. Have heard wonderful things about this book.

I just read Altar of Eden by James Rollins.

Let me just say, it was fabulous! It's about mutant critters, fractals, and cajuns.

"Yet, something is wrong with these beasts, disturbing deformities that make no sense: a parrot with no feathers, a pair of Capuchin monkeys conjoined at the hip, a jaguar cub with the dentition of a saber-tooth tiger. They also all share one uncanny trait--a disturbingly heightened intelligence."

I read over half of it in one day. I just gave it to my husband and after he read just the prologue, he rolled over and said to me, "I love this book."

I just started The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I'm trying to figure out if i can sneak out of work early and read some more before the girls come home from school. I started it while waiting for the girls to get up this morning (they had a 2 hour delay so I let them sleep late)

soooo good! i ended up going & buying hard copies of the series. i started the second book Friday night & finished the series last night (Monday). i could not put.it.down.

it was funny though - when i was buying it at Chapters, the lady who was ringing me through raved about the books (especially the end of the series), however, the cashier beside her couldn't help chiming in that she thought the ending was terrible & was so disappointed. it totally heightened the interest for me  (i loved the ending, btw). hope you enjoy it!

I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo last night. It was entertaining, but I kind of felt like there was just wayyyy to much going on at the end. I'd read more in the series though.

I think I might check out the Hunger Games... looks entertaining!

Read Little Children a long time ago, wasn't a fan...

Just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire which I liked more than the first book, but as Jen says I think he has too much going in on his books. But I thought the second one was a bit tighter. Also it's a bit overwritten, but that could be the translation.

I'm reading Cutting for Stone which is beautifully written and I also finished Water for Elephants (coming to a big screen in April!) which I really loved!

No? I'm halfway through it - it isn't the best book I've ever read, but so far it is entertaining and a good page-turner. I find the relationships interesting as well as the portrayal of marriage and parenting. Curious to see where it goes.

I read it, Jori, and I think I liked it! Hard to remember but I know I rented the movie after reading so I must have enjoyed it. (Does anyone else have book amnesia like I do sometimes?)

Totally. I can't tell you how many times I start to read something and realize, "hey. I've read this!"

I am reading port mortuary (Kay Scarpetta mystery)

I finished the most recent house of night book.

I love series because I usually don't want the stories to end. Liked the hunger games but I think the first was the best out of the 3.
I read dragon tatoo but haven't read the other 2 yet.

i've purchased multiple copies of books because i've forgotten i've already read them.

anyone else sometimes feel depressed when they finish a good book/series because you just can't imagine not knowing what else happens to the characters?

  28. kingeomer

    kingeomer Well-Known Member TS Moderator

Yup. I also get a little depressed when I am reading a book or series and a character I like dies...I actually get a lump in my throat

I finished Matched by Ally Condie (decent book, it's supposed to be a trilogy so I am curious enough to see where it goes) and The Radleys by Matt Haig another decent book...not one of the worst or best I read.
I finally got book 2 of the Song of Fire and Ice Series: A Clash of Kings and it's really good so far.

I'm just finishing The Secret Between Us by Barbara Delinsky. I have a couple of books lined up here (none of my library holds are in yet). I think I may read Summer Island by Kristin Hannah next.

Kim, I totally get book amnesia. I was 100 pages into a book last summer when I realized I had already read it.

Rachel, I, too, get sad at the end of the book wanting to know what happens next.

And so many times I have found myself crying reading a book. I used to get funny looks when I was commuting on the train or boat and bawling my eyes out.

Ok, first I got sucked into the Twilight saga, no pun intended, and then I decided to take the plunge into the Hunger Games trilogy even though I was not sure I could get addicted to another set of books more than Twilight. Boy was I wrong on that thought. I just finished the second book Catching Fire, which means I have read the first two books in about 4 days. I am itching to start the third book Mockingjay. I am finding these books hard to put down. I want to keep reading through the night when I tell myself just one or two chapters since I have the twins or work waiting for me each morning and I wouldn't do them much good with no sleep :FIFblush: . I will probably reread them again in the next few weeks and I even got DH interested in them. He started reading the first book last night.
