Is there a difference in the birth weight of fraternal twins, identical twins and twins conceived with infertility help? I'm curious to know this. I'm not sure yet if mine are identical or fraternal (they were conceived naturally). Or does it make a difference at all.

    Thanks

I have fraternals conceived through IVF. Born at 37.4 weeks. Baby A (DS) was 7 pounds 13 ounces and Baby B (DD) was 6 pounds 2 ounces.

I would think that nutrition, genetics, placental condition, mothers health, and much more would play into birth weight tremendously more than fertility treatments. Interesting thought though. But as for my twins they are spontaneous, with low dose aspirin being the only med I was taking. They are identical di/di twins (as far as we know).

My twins were born last week... we're still not sure if they're frat or ID yet, but they do look more different by the day.

    They were born at 37w4d - Baby A weighed 6.2, Baby B weighed 5.12.

Thanks and congratulations. Will you be doing a DNA test on them to find out if they are identical?

    Congratulations again :drinks:

    B/G twins-IUI/Injections born at 39 weeks. DS was 7lbs 14oz and DD was 6lbs 4oz.

Do weights really depend on if they were concieved spontaneously or through help? I have never heard of this before.

    Thanks for your response.

I don't know, I was just wondering if it made a difference at all. But according to all the different weights and different ways babies are conceived, then it tells us one thing at least....all pregnancies and all babies are individuals starting from the day they are conceived. Even if they are identical, they are still individual.

Thanks. I think you are right on that assessment. I guess with babies nothing is predictable.

Anya was 5 lbs. 10 oz.
Ziva was 3 lbs. 9 oz.

So 2 lbs. difference between them. They're di/di twins (fraternal). Turns out Ziva's placenta was 1/2 the size of Anya's, the Dr. thinks it may have implanted in a place that didn't have as good circulation. They were delivered 6 weeks early because Ziva dropped off her growth scale.

Today there is still a weight difference between them although I'm really not sure what at this point. At the 1 year appointment they were 1 lbs. difference. They're the same height. But I also think that they just have completely different body types. Anya's a chubby baby and Ziva is a long/thin baby.

I just hope that this trend doesn't continue forever because I'll feel sorry for Anya to have a twin who is lean and slender build when she isn't.
