Today was supposed to be such a good day. I got my first level 2 ultrasound and the doctors said the babies looked great. They were each about a pound and all other things were good.

This afternoon, I get a call from my ob telling me that my insurance has been cancelled. What a horrible thing to deal with when you are expecting twins in a high-risk pg. Now I have to try to find a way to get state funded healthcare to try ro pay for the ob and peri visits. I am not sure how I am going to do it all because I have to have a cervical biopsy due to abnormal cell growth on Friday 12/8. My ob says I cant come in without insurance or full payment so there is another big worry on my mind.

If that was not enough...This evening the peri's office calls me and tells me that because of my s/o and my family history we need to go to see a genetic specialist to make sure that the babies will be fine. I was told over the phone that one or both of the babies can be affected by this disorder and that it can be fatal for children. They also trold me that the chances of one or both babies being affected is one in four. My s/o had no idea that he had any pre-disposition to any genetic blood disorders in his family. The condition is called sicke b+ thalassemia. Does any one know about it or know of anyone who has or had this condition?

I am going nuts and I have been told by my family not to worry about this, but how do you not worry about something like this? I am sorry it is so long but I really needed to vent about this....

Gosh, I am soo sorry to hear about your day. Do you know why your current insurance was cancelled? If it was a work issue can you try to Cobra the insurance? I have state insurance due to the fact I work part time, insurance is only offered to full time personnel, and my income qualifies us for it. It is wonderful but it does require some serious paperwork and verification in order to be accepted. I hope KY works faster than MA. Give them a call tomorrow and please let us know what you find out!

I am sorry that I do not have any information about your DH's medical condition, the only thing I can tell you there is that stress will not change the result. Try to relax, (I know much easier said than done) figure out the insurance stuff and just take one thing at a time! I hope everything works out for the best!

[IMG] How terrible!!! Do you khow why your insurance got cancelled? What kind of insurance did you have??? Are you working??? I know an employer cannot just cancel your ins., they have to give you proper notification beforehand so you can make arrangements. An insurance company cannot just drop you, either, without a certain term of notification. What about COBRA???? And if you look online, you can always hunt up maternity insurance, or usually Blue Cross/Blue Shield is pretty reasonable, and most won't consider a pregnancy a pre-existing condition ... are you married, can you be under your husbands insurance? Or is that the ins that got cancelled? How confusing. [IMG]

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about that condition but maybe others on here do.

This is the last thing you need to deal with, but I'm sure it will all work out. Sending good thoughts your way. [IMG]

What a yucky day! I know nothing about the condition. I hope it's all just a bad scare.

But, I do know about insurance. We are self employed and my insurance covers zero maternity. So, if by chance you don't qualify for state assistance, there are some other avenues. First, most hospitals and doctors offices have special prices for people without insurance. Call and talk to the billing people and they can quote you prices. Also, some places, like the u/s office for me, will take a whatever percent discount (30%)if you pay before the first bill is due. But, again, you have to call and talk to billing.

Also, there is a company called Affordable Health Care Options (AHCO) that is specifically for maternity. This company is not an insurance, but it usually gets your bills knocked down for you. Good luck!

    I hope tomorrow's a better day!

That sounds terrible. I live in KY, too. I think you should be able to at least see a doc through your local health department. My SIL is a social worker. She said they can't turn anyone away. You may not be able to see your regular OB, but the health departments have providers they work with. I bet they even have peris, etc. in their networks. This would at least help deflate the cost.

I would also highly recommend getting COBRA through your work. That will cover exactly the same things that your insurance did before. It will just cost you more.

The only other thing I can think of is PRAYER, which may be the most helpful thing of all. We will all be praying for you . . . praying that God will ease your mind of these financial worries and more importantly, that those little babies growing inside you will be healthy and happy.

I can't give you any helpful advise on either issue.

But I'm glad you came here to vent and share - there are wonderful suggestions by people who know more than me and I hope you get the help you need.

Please let us know how it's going! Prayers to you! [IMG]

    Just a little update.....

Luckily I was able to get an appointment with the cabinet for faqmilies and, i was able to get the state funded insurance on an emergency basis. Unfortunatly my ob has dumped me due to the fact that she does not take that kind of insurance. Luckily my peri does and will be taking over all my pre-natal care for the remandier of my pregnancy. At least that will be off my mind.

Thanks for all your support and advice.
