My Ob nurse is a twin and her name is Cindy and her twin sisters name is Sydney. They love that they sound the same. I think most will learn to like what they're given. They are super close and even do the same job at the same office, just for different docs, lol!!! It's so cute. I happen to be one that believes you should name them what you like and not worry about what others think. If I had twin girls their names would've been Sierra and Sienna. How many people get the opportunity to have twins and experience all the fun and special things that come along with it? Have fun with it!! :)

This is funny, cuz my dd's name is Sydney and my grandmother always called her Cindy by mistake!LOL!

I think there are a few rhyming names that are different enough to not be too twinny but, as a general rule, I'd stay away from it. The kids are going to share so much in their lives that you can at least give them different sounding names.

I also like the point about rhyming names getting confusing when you're calling the twins. Our girls have very different names and I still mix them up and combine them by accident. That's not just a twin thing though. Parents of singletons do that with their singletons all the time as well.

My DD thought she was avoiding the twinny name thing by choosing Preston and Layton. Wrong! People usually think the boys' names are Preston and PAYTON, not Layton. It's probably because not many people are familiar with the name Layton anyway, but it's also probably because people assume that because they're twins, their names are "matchy." She now wishes their names were more distinctly different.

To each his own! I say just choose names you absolutely LOVE ... if they match, fine but if not, no biggie!

Just for perspective, as a teacher, when I get twins with matchy names I CANNOT for the life of me keep them straight and have to resort to calling the kids by their last names therefore stripping them of any individuality..... FYI!

Were trying to decide on names for our twins too, and I don't like the whole "rhyming" thing either.

That said, my grandma went back in family history a ways and said she found two twin sisters named, get this...........Buehla Ethel and Uehla Bethel!!! :rotflmbo:

i also vote no rhyming, but perhaps similar rhythm or beginning letter if you're into that sort of thing

both mine have a names and 4 syllables--though it was totally unplanned, in fact i sort of didn't like that they sounded twinny, but they were the only names we could agree on
