I am having a c/s scheduled for 37 wks 2 days because our boys are still breeched & transversed. Doc worries of fetal difficulties after that point. He says that he does not forsee the boys having to stay in the hospital any longer than when I am released. I have full faith that they will be ready because I have seen babies born way earlier than this that are healthy.

My doc said he doesn't usually take twin pregnancies past 37 weeks unless the woman really really wants to keep going. He thinks the twins are fully cooked at 37 weeks and no reason to keep going. I am curious what you guys think. IF I make it that far, I'm not sure I want to be induced if there are no other symptoms or I'm able to keep going.

    Thanks,
    Lanie

I think it depends on a few things: How long you carried your first baby, How long your mom carried you, How sure you are of the date of conception, How the ultrasounds and dopplers look, How your health is holding up, Your Bishop Score (you can google this for info) etc.

Just because the doctor generalizes and induces all MOTs at 37 weeks doesn't make it right and doesn't mean you have to. Albeit, it is really really hard to stand up to a doctor who is constantly quoting statistics for the worst case scenario. Personally, I'm not for induction because it doesn't work well on me and my mom and I both seem to naturally carry our babies past term. With twins I wouldn't want to go past 39 weeks due to stillbirth rates but 37 weeks seems a little premature. That's just my opinion. :)

So, I'm coming in a little late to the discussion. But this AM my OB said that if my boy doesn't turn by 36ww (he's breech with his little booty stuck on my cervix), she's going to schedule a C-section for week 37. But the kiddos are quite large for their gestational age (even if they were singletons), according to the US, so I feel comfortable with her prognosis. Though if everything is progressing well, she seems like she's flexible enough to wait a little bit if I felt strongly about it.

My OB was pretty relaxed. He wanted me to make it to 36wks but wouldn't let me carry past 38wks. He just showed me a calendar and told me to pick a day. Just happened my older DD's birthday fell in the range so that's when I chose to be induced (well we went in the night before). They were born at 36wks 6days. My larger twin was 7lbs even, I would hate to know how big he would have been a week or 2 later. Neither had any problems. I wasn't showing any signs of going into labor on my own, but I do have a pregnancy related medical condition that would have made me deliver that week either way based off of blood counts at the hospital. When it gets closer to time, you and your doctors will have to access the risks and benefits and make a decision everyone is comfortable with.
