Larger towns/cities there are, where i got it it was still half off the road as it was a rock wall there. Roads need to be made save I agree!

I am so used to having a car, being able to jump in it and go so its a bit sad :( lol. This week I really only need it Friday as tomorrow is carpool and i wasnt meant to be driving. Its sad how needy people are with transport in a way. Oh gone the days of walking :p

You can see the post ID when you hover your mouse over the "reply" button for a post:

    Code:
    http://www.twinstuff.com/forum/index.php?app=forums&module=post&section=post&do=reply_post&f=33&t=155767&qpid=1617441
Look at the qpid attribute. Your post is 1617430 and Adrian's is 1617432. There were no other posts posted between them so they should be sequential (as most of the posts after them are).

    I agree ;) :p

I agree but I didn't mean it should be a wider tar road. A decent dirt road next to roads would make a huge difference, don't you think?

True and I don't want to start a whole conversation on this (which I guess we already did) but sometimes my logic translated into something like "I know how important this or that is for my Dad/Friend/Whoever and it's not such a big deal to me so what's the harm in doing it for them" problem is you can't carry someone elses expectations on your shoulders all the time even if you do it with good intentions because along the way you loose some of yourself. It isn't bad to want to keep your loved ones happy but it is detrimental when it starts interfering with your own needs. Not the best example because it sounds so obvious when explained like that but you get what I am saying. The trick is to learn that there are many "correct" ways and just because someone else can't understand your reasons doesn't mean you intentionally hurt them. Generally people don't act against others, they act for themselves but many can't see the difference.

I know I'm very fluent in the Adrian-Richard language by now. Couldn't resist the jibe though :p

I walk whenever possible but unfortunately most of my destinations are too far and we don't really have a decent public transportation system here so driving is our best option.

    Ah I see. Thanks ;)

It makes people drive faster (which makes it more dangerous for everybody).

A dirt road? I don't think that makes people drive faster. Wider tar road, yes. Not dirt road.

It is still likely to make people drive faster. A flat strip of grass next to the road would probably be better.

    Good :p

This is debatable but it generally requires changing destinations where possible ;) I admit it is difficult for most people to change though.

It is complicated but just having the open area with a potentially drivable surface is likely to make people drive faster than they would if there was grass, trees or bushes along the side of the road.

Without getting all technical, research has shown that if you increase the amount of run off space on the side of roads, people's perception of the risk of driving lowers and as a consequence they drive faster. Even Richard's suggestion of a strip of grass would increase average speeds because the risk perception changes. On the opposite side people are much more careful about how they drive when there are a lot of things on the sides of the road. A balance has to be struck between ensuring that people keep within designated speeds and ensuring the safety of the cars that do crash (some of which are not the driver's fault).

As you said some destination just not changeable... hence wanting to move to the Cape, much more options there. ;) It's obviously not

All very good points and I must agree with your logic. I see what you meant now. I do think however that a piece of grass or whatever is much safer than trees or other obstacles even if drivers are likely to drive faster. I think I'd prefer that to a big tree next to the road ;)

What you think (or what I think for that matter) doesn't really matter - the data shows that in general it is safer to have more obstacles along the road than to be free of obstacles. You may prefer to not have anything on the side of the road but you would also drive faster and overall speeding is the highest (or the 2nd highest) cause of fatal accidents (drinking would be the other). ;):p

How was everyone's weekend? André and I visited Gerda and her fiancé (lol yup doing that for her benifit) and had a great time!

Just an FYI. I'm having internet issues again and was told my connection will be off tomorrow from 11am to 5pm for maitenance work. Knowing them that probably means I won't have internet access for the next week  so if I disappear that is why ;)

My weekend was very boring! I started an essay thats due Friday, and just finished it was meant to be 1000 words I got 880 or so and cant add anything else as its just going to be repeated AGAIN, not just inforcing the fact. I have tried to add more and it looks crap so I am just going to leave it hopefully due to the 10% either side rule I wont lose to much :tomato: Employment Relations = yuk!! Maybe I should start on one of the other 3 I have

The word limit is generally just an indication of how much information you should include. If you can answer the question in fewer words that normally isn't a problem. I know some professors who have a rule that they will stop reading after the word/page limit but not where they won't read it because it is too short.

    Don't plagiarise :p

In the last few I have handed in (got a HD and a C :) ) I had trouble keeping within the word count was lucky to make it into the 10% rule. One I handed in last week the tutor said dont worry just finish it, I think I was like 50 words over the limit (due to her instructions) but since she was marking it its ok :) No no no no plagiarism :) parapharasing with reference to the origional author is ok though :)

    Congratulations ;) 50 words isn't very much.

Yes it is ;) I have been tracking down plagiarists for the past few days and it has been very annoying at times :p

LOL it was compared to everyone elses essays, for that class. most people didnt care about the assignment.

Do you tutor? or something? ;) I wouldnt want you as a tutor you cant be serious long enough :p

  24. TwinRichard

    TwinRichard Well-Known Member

I was just helping to mark things (which unfortunately has meant finding people who copied from seemingly random places), there is no real need for a tutor for this unit. We can't be serious all the time :p

Well them people are silly then arent they! Do you get to mark your own stuff :p

I take that as being mean to me due to that statement being in my sig :p Brenda he is being mean again  :p ;)

Nothing (except what Adrian mentioned :p). Regardless, I don't think I have ever heard of somebody marking a project they were doing themselves at the same time.

Adrian is a smartie pants :p That would be unfair to other people if you got to mark their work for the same assignment you were doing. I used to mark assignments for other teachers in highschool, like the true/false questions that they were to lazy to do themselves, and made out class do it :p

  34. TwinRichard

I remember teachers doing that as well. In hindsight I should I have refused to mark them unless I was paid :p
