Our cars have the keypad entry on the outside of the door, luckily we've never had to use it :)
We also have autostart so we can start & lock the car with our keys which is what I normally do. In the event someone were to try to "steal" my car as soon as they put their foot on the brake to put it in gear, without the keys in the ignition it shuts off.

I always took my girls in with me unless I was in my driveway. I just was too scared that something might happen. I live in a really small town, but didn't take the chance, unexpected things happen in small towns, too.

The only place I've ever left the kids in the car is in my driveway or my parents driveway. As far as I know, it is illegal. A while back there was a poster here on TS that had gone to the ATM leaving the kids in the car and a police officer happened to be there, too and spoke to her about it.

I go to the drive thru ATM, the CVS drive thru, etc. I try to incorporate my milk buying with any other regular shopping trips, or I or my husband gets that kind of stuff when we are alone.

When my husband drops off our 4 year old at preschool the babies almost always fall asleep in the car. So he usually runs her in and leaves the babies in the car....however, he parks right at the door and a woman who we know and who works at the school as the hall monitor watches out the door to make sure they are ok. He isn't in the school for more than a couple minutes.

For me, it depends on the situation. I wouldn't leave them in the car if they were out of my sight. If I got out of the car at an icecream stand and went to order quickly and they were right there, I might not get them out. I would never run into a store and leave them where I couldn't see them.

When my daughter gets off the bus, I will sometimes leave the babies (8 months old) sleeping in their cribs at home and walk a little ways down the street(a few houses) to meet her. I live in a quiet neighborhood and I can see my house the entire time. I'm a little nervous doing it, but if I woke them up every day to bring them down the street right during their nap time they would be miserable.

At this age not at all. Now I will leave them in the car to run back in the house or if we are right next to the redbox and then i roll the window down.

The only place I leave my kids in the car is in my driveway if I have to run in to get something I forgot, at my moms house when I'm taking them out the car when they are sleeping at night or when have to stop to get gas. I dont normally carry cash on me so this happens once in a blue moon and I park at the pump right next to the door. I wait for it if I have too. I crack the windows, lock the doors and turn the alarm on. Once inside, the car is probably 3 feet from the door and I pretty much toss the money at them from the door..LOL.... There is only one station I do this at bc its the only one I can be out of the car and still so close. Anywhere else Im hauling all 3 kids in with me and yes a 1 min trip turns into 30 but It was my choice to have the kids so I dont give it a second thought.
