Surprise! Caleb Jackson is here!

I know I haven't even told everyone, but DH and I decided to adopt. We only just finished the homestudy portion of the adoption process a few weeks ago. With adoption, everything is so uncertain, I hadn't felt comfortable really announcing it. We had no idea how long we might wait to be matched, it can take over a year sometimes. Well, we got a call about two weeks ago about a mother expecting a baby any day now, and asked if we wanted to be considered. We did, and she picked us! Fast forward a bit to Thursday, and I called her just to see how she was doing, the social worker had met with her earlier in the day and told me she was feeling "uncomfortable". Well, a relative answers the phone and tells me she's had the baby and she's at the hospital! Later, I find out she had the baby at home, she didn't even make it to the hospital! So we call my parents, they come pick up the girls, we hop in the car and drive 13 hrs straight to Illinois. The baby was discharged to us on Sat, and today the birthmom signed her consents. We need to stay in IL while the legal process clears for us to leave the state with Caleb. It normally takes a week or so. I miss the girls a lot, I'm anxious to get home.

Caleb weighed 6 lbs 9 oz, 18 inches long. He's doing really good, and eating well.

We're in Chicago. We're staying in the agency's adoptive family apartments.

If you need any info, please feel free to PM me. We considered international at first, but then decided to go domestic. Since we were open to other races internationally, we decided to keep that option open domestically.

Yes, she was home by herself! She called 911, and the EMTs got there just as the baby was crowning. I can't believe it!
