Alright this is my last post. I hate to have to do this but I am having to block my blog. I was hoping that just moderating the comments would help, but that person (or someone else, not sure) sent another comment that told me to do the world a favor and die.

that was uncalled for and my blog will no longer be able to be accessed by the public.

i hate that i have to do this, but enough is enough.

That is too bad. I have a blog as well and have been considering having mine private as well. I did check out your blog and enjoyed it very much. My dh was a youth pastor, but now is active duty Air Force. From another mother and christian, hold on to what you know to be true about God, your worth in Him, and His unfailing love and protection for you and your children. God has perfectly match us with our children and has given us the ability and tools to raise godly ones. Who cares what others think.

i believe there's an option in blogger to capture the IP address of anyone who comments. it's not visible to the public, but it's visible to you as the account holder.

the IP address isn't a sure thing. many times internet services are routed in a way that can completely misrepresent a user's geographic location. but most of the time you can get a good idea of region and sometimes down to the specific city. in your case i think it would only be helpful if you were able to pinpoint that the IP originated from your local area because that would indicate strongly that it's someone you know personally.

in terms of TS doing anything about it, i doubt this falls under their terms of service. this person hasn't abused the TS server, so i can't imagine TS would take action on someone for snarking on your blog.

all you can do is grow a thick skin and realize the internet can be an ugly place.

You have to consider that figuring out their IP address could mean nothing. If it's a static IP then maybe you could identify them, if not, you don't stand much of a chance.

Blogger allows custom javascript to track visitor IPs, Google Analytics also does something along those lines. But at the most you'd get it narrowed down to a city. Which again, means nothing if they're using a proxy. People can view sites using proxy IDs placing them in cities/countries of their choice. If they're using Google Reader, you won't be able to view their IP.

Also, if you feel this person is from TS, or lurking on TS, why announce your plans on an open board? I would advise you to let the matter rest and keep your comments section closed, not just moderated for a while.

If the person is from TS, can you pass it along to the Admins and they may be able to see who it is. Altough they may not be able to tell you who, they may be able to contact this person directly.

No, but I don't think the admins of TS want that type of vicious person as a member here. I know I don't. If they are a member here they should be banned.

I guess that could be left up to the discretion of the site admin. Although, blogger does allow anonymous comments, so I don't understand how that could warranty a ban on a completely different website? And what if this person is using a proxy from a city where several TS members reside?

It's a troll... and the only way out is to not feed the troll.

True, it would have to be up to them to decide if they wanted to get involve.
Also, I didn't say they had to hire an FBI agent to go after the person. :unknw:

    Molly,
I'm so sorry about that person's comments. I read the nastiness before you made your blog private. I LOVED reading your blog!!!

You are a great mom, and that person is just not a good person. Unfortunatly there are too many of them in this world today.

You did the right thing about making your blog private...it makes me think to do the same with mine.
