Oh my goodness! That's so scary. I'm glad she's getting good treatment.

Many many hugs going out to the whole family! Having a baby in the hospital is so heart-wrenching. Hope Indira feels better soon and stops giving her parents a heart attack! :love0028:

    Todays Update:
Indira has an infection in her kidneys and bladder, plus they discovered Ecoli in her urine. Damiane had similar health issues only 3 weeks after the babies were born.

Oh wow, poor baby girl! I also had a kidney/bladder infection with ecoli being the culprit after I had Josh. It was SO miserable and took forever to go away. Lots of hugs to her and her family. :hug99:

Hi all it is me Damiane'. Thanks so much for Megan posting this and for all your thoughts and prayers. As she said, she has E. Coli. It is resistent to many things and the few things it is sensitive to can only be given IV and the other is not used in babies. We have to stay at least to Monday to see how bad the infection is in her Kidneys. They also have to contact Infectious Disease to see what meds they can send her home on.

She shouldn't be so resistant because she is a baby and they are looking into my files to see if the strand I had is the strand she has.

She is doing okay overall. Her iron is low so she is a little lethargic but smiling and melting everyone's hearts.

She has an IV catheter in her arm and her 'voice' is coarse from crying so much during her testing.

I will keep you updated or if I can't Megan will. Thanks again girlie for this post and calming me through the 'storm'.

I have Arjun with me and we have a private room. Despite all the noise and people coming in, he is still managing to sttn!!!!

    Thanks again,
    Damiane'

Damiane, :hug99: I'm happy that she is doing okay. I hope they find the answers to treating the e.coli. I'm sending out many :hug99: to you and your baby girl. And go Arjun! He's a trooper sleeping through all the caos. He's doing it for his sister.

Update: I just got off the phone with Damiane and Indira has a Urinary Tract Infection. They are concerned and are doing tests on her kidney and bladder. Sounds like they may be there another night. Her fever is under control and it looks like antibiotics are beginning to work.

Anyone have any UTI experience in their babies?

Glad to hear that things are starting to help :(

I hope she is ok, and I am glad that they have at least given her antibiotics and are treating her. Good for Arjun sleeping so well. :hug99:

It is me Damiane' again. Indira will be in the hospital until Thursday (that will make one week). Infectious Disease came in and put her on a different antibiotic and she has to be on that for 3 more days from today. Good news is that even though the other 2 antibiotics she was on since Thursday count as the full 7 days she needed treatment or else we would have had to stay an additional 7 days. So Thursday it is. We are 'moving in' by bringing a swing from home and lots of clothes. YIKES.

thanks again for all the support and prayers, it means so much. Hopefully she kicks this out of her system and never gets this again.

Oh and she got it from me! I dont' have it now but had it in October and she is just now getting it so I don't understand how that works but that is what they say.

:hug99: Lots and lots of hugs to you! You must be so stressed out right now. Thank you for keeping us posted, though. How's Indira doing? Does she still have some smiles despite all this? How's Arjun coping with the whole adventure? Hope life gets back to normal soon!

Yes, she is smiling and happy despite it all. She seems to be cranky in the evenings as she does at home. Gas, we just can't seem to get that under control. Arjun is doing fine, he is learning to fall asleep by himself so that is good. They both have gotten so good at reaching for objects and holding on to them. So far we still have our own private room so that is good. It is stressful to be here like this but what can I do?!

The only way they would send her home on iv antibiotics is to put in a pik line which is a major procedure that makes an iv go from her arm to her heart and I am not for that. We will rough it out so she can stay here and get her treatments.

I don't know how to put the word *update* on the topic line so I just want everyone to know how she is doing.

We came home yesterday from the hospital. She is all better but bruised from her IV. She had to get a second one the day before we left since the other wasn't viable anymore :(

She is waking up at 12am and 4am because that is the time the nurses would come in to give her meds or take her vitals. So I hope it doesn't take a long while to break her of that habit.

She goes back in one month to get an u/s of her kidneys to make sure they are doing good.

Arjun's CT Scan came back normal. All the sutures in his head are open and that is a good thing. NO specialist for him!!!

He slept 7:30 - 7:30 overnight!!!!!!! 12 hours is officially sttn.

Indira ate really well in the hospital and was not cranky. Since being home she is the complete opposite.

Arjun didn't eat well and was cranky while in the hospital. Since being home he is the complete opposite.

Thanks again for all your well wishes and prayers. I truly believed they helped.

Just wanted to update everyone and let you know that her second kidney u/s showed that she still has hydronephrosis. We have an appt on April 8th to see the pediatric nephrologist and will keep you updated after that. Pray that it is insignificant and she just has to grow out of it.

Also, she will stay on her antibiotics until then making it 6 week altogether.

Damiane I am sorry you have to deal with this for Indira poor little thing. It breaks our hearts to see such little ones having to go through things like this. Please know that my prayers are with you and your little girl and know that both your babies have been strong little things since they were born and I think they will both continue to surprise you with their strength because they have their mom's strength in them. Damiane you are a great person I'm sorry your family has had so many struggles this past year.

    Hugs,

    Heather

Good luck... I'll have my fingers crossed for you and your daughter on the 8th. You're doing a great job and hopefully this will all turn out to be just a story you can tell your kids when they're older.
