I voted other since I'm not too sure on some of the republicans. I'm a conservative replublican in case you were wondering. Really for those of you who are replublicans or just on the fence about who to vote for you should really look at Newt Gingrich. He is a conservative republican and I really like his views. Here is his website for more information. http://www.draftnewt.org/on_the_issues/index.php He isn't officially running. He will decide by late September. He thinks it's premature to run for president two years out like some of the canidates have done. My big hot button issues, of course, are the war since my DH is military and has served in the Iraq war. I want someone who will continue to keep this great country strong unlike Hilary Clinton. I assume she will treat the military like a dirty diaper just like her husband did.

Further more I really hope everyone chooses to research their candidates and not vote based on their gender or race. Choosing to remain ignorant on issues or ignoring them completely is irresponsible where voting is concerned.

    Elizabeth

I lived in SC and worked in GA when he was still in office--and he REALLY scares me! Also, he is another one who cheated on his wife--she was in the hospital dying of cancer while he was cheating on her. Not a great role model IMO.

So did Bill Clinton and everyone said what does that have to do with running a country. I guess if it good for one side isn't it good for the other?

I'm not saying I agree with his decision because I don't and I most likely won't vote for him. :)

What would be the point? Sorry, but to me that is a waste of my time and gas to get there.

Ummmm...I don't know where you live, but there is never just one thing on the ballot during an election....especially Novembers. We always have at least 5 levies to vote on whether it has to do with the school district we live in, city issues, county issues, state issues. These things are just as important than anything else to vote on. In fact, I make sure I vote on all levies.

Honestly....can't be that much in gas to go vote.

Theres something I've been thinking about. Not sure if anyone else has really thought about it, but here goes. We had Bush Sr in office for 4 yrs, then we had Clinton in office for 8 yrs, and then we'll had Bush Jr in office for 8 yrs. If Hillary wins we'll have another Clinton.

All I keep hearing is we want/need someone or something different in office. I guess if we really want a change maybe we need to have a different last name in office. :) Like I said its just something I've been thinking about.

    I absolutely agree.

My whole point was, I'm not going to vote (for a person) when I don't like my choices. I think it is a waste to write someone in, especially myself. Part of having the right to vote is having the right to not vote in protest. If that bothers people.. I don't know what to tell ya. Do I still have a right to gripe.. you betcha! I informed myself.. didn't like the people running so I didn't vote for any of them. Part of living in a free society means I can still gripe. I didn't just blow off the election. I didn't just sit around while everyone else did their homework and voted. I did my homework, then in protest of my choices (of people) I didn't vote (for a person).

If I'm understanding you correctly, Donita, then you did vote on the rest of the ballot, just not for someone for a particular office? Then isn't this really the same as writing in a nonsense vote for yourself? You are choosing NOT to vote for either candidate. So I don't have a problem with that at all. Either way, a vote was not cast for either candidate for that particular office.

I guess the whole "wife dying of cancer" at the time has a lot of people thinking he (Gingrich) is pretty distasteful. Not to mention he was condemning Bill Clinton for his actions while he was engaged in similar behavior. So I guess the hypocrisy on top of the act of cheating on a spouse while she was dying from cancer makes some thing he's not such a great guy. Just a thought.

Ugh. How many times does this need to be said?
Clinton wasn't impeached for cheating on his wife. He was impeached for lying under oath. Two totally different things. I'm not a fan of Gingrich or his actions (he looks like the Keebler Elf anyway), but he didn't lie to a grand jury. And, when he got caught, not only did he step down, he suffered the ire of his own party. Clinton still hasn't. There's a difference between being a slimeball and being a pathalogical liar. Not much, but there is.

    On another note...
The problem with the Republican candidates is that many believe they aren't far enough to the right. Voters thought Bush would finally be a true, Reagan conservative and then decided he isn't conservative enough. Gingrich *might* be able to convince voters that he isn't another Bush, but I doubt it. I tend to think he's more along the same lines as McCain (gag me). I can't see him even getting through the primaries, but...stranger things have happened. Who doesn't remember Ross Perot?

I am quite aware that Clinton was impeached for lying to the grand jury. No need to tell me. That isn't what I said.
Gingrich criticized Clinton for his extra-marital affair WHILE he was having an extra-marital affair himself. Mostly criticizing Clinton's lack of "family values". Some might call that hypocritical.

Personally, if I thought Gingrich was right for the country, I would vote for him regardless.

The way your post read, it was not clear to me. Gingrich, as well as the Republican party at large, not only had an issue with the affair, they had an issue with the lying, which was illegal in that setting. That is why impeachment proceedings went forward. I was merely pointing out the difference in their actions (however slight it might have been). Again, your post wasn't entirely clear to me. But, I *am* a conservative, so maybe you should just use smaller words. :p

I'm not really sure who this group is, but their numbers are statistically no more important in any big picture than our poll here (actually it's probably much less significant). So Ron Paul has almost twice as many votes as everyone else in the poll combined? And someone named Daniel Gilbert (whoever that is) has more votes than any candidate save Paul or Giuliani? And Mickey Mouse got as many votes as John McCain or Barack Obama and outpolled Hillary Clinton? It makes for a fun read but that's about it.

I agree...any president who doesnt treasure lives of unborn children..doesnt get my vote either. No matter who they are..they have to make a strong case for the rights of the babies that dont have a voice. :)
The military is also a very imporant issue for me...just like a PP said Bill Clinton treated the military people horribly...and his wife will most likely do the same thing.

I voted for Obama. But I would vote for Hilary too. I would love to see a black man or a woman running this country. We have had rich old white men running this country for over 200 years. It waaayyy past time for a change.

I think that anyone who is "pro-life" and wants to have laws made to push those views on the rest of the country, should have to register at an adoption agency. They should then be made to adopt at least ONE of the hundreds of thousands of children that nobody wants RIGHT NOW!

I wanna know what the next step in the "pro-life" agenda is. What happens to all the unwanted children these women are forced to have? Someone made a comment that they cant understand how a mother can be "pro-choice". That is the most offensive comment I have ever heard on here. I have three children whom I love more than anything. I also had an abortion when I was 18. I have never regretted that decision ONCE. Judge me however you like. But it was my choice and I will always fight for my daughter and every other woman out there to have her choice. It has nothing to do with you.

Seeing that I have worked at an adoption agency before...and "tried" to adopt, and am an American I totally disagree with you.

So you say we should kill all the unwanted kids in the world? Thats very sad. :( I dont have anything else to say..but WOW!!

And I wont judge you..because only one person will do that. God...and he will judge me also for fighting for babies like yours who have no choice to be brought into this world. I hate all abortion no matter what. So we are on totally different sides then this. But this is the sick demented world we live in. Its ok to kill little babies...but not terroist. Can we please not turn this thread into a discussion on abortion? That's a sure-fire way to make it so heated we'll have to shut it down. Let's just stay focused on the other hotbed topic of politics.

By the way Brandy, sorry to burst your Presidential bubble before your campaign even had a chance, but technically you're not eligible to run in 2008. There's always 2012, however!

Sorry Craig..I posted before I saw this..so I wont say anything else about abortion. People know where I stand on the issue and can PM me for any other discussion.

OK..well Heather and I need to get busy for 2012 then. :) BRANDY for PRESIDENT!!! LOL I dont think so...
