We found out very early on it was multiples. I wasn't shocked until I saw the hb's...then I was a little shocked but since I was on fert drugs it wasn't a HUGE suprise. Since it was initially quads I can say I drove home with this surreal feeling. I think my jaw was just left open the whole ride home. Then I felt like I had this huge secret I wanted to shout out to everyone I saw. They initially told us we were having two boys (via the cvs test)...I kept thinking NO, NO thats not right. I just couldn't and wouldn't believe that. When we went to our 18 week u/s I told my friends I really thought they were going to tell me one was a girl...just couldn't shake that feeling. Sure enough baby b was a girl. I just remember thinking....No, I can't have 3 boys....God wouldn't do that....(kidding of course!) But now I have two boys and two girls and my family is complete!

I can't find a strong enough word to describe how shocked I was...

Lets see - we had only been back in the states for 2 months. We are military so I got ONE ultrasound, period, so I waited until I was 21 - 22 weeks to have it because EVERYONE wanted to know what I was having. My husband was going through his fam training on the plane he was working on and could not go with me. So, here I am, no family or friends to speak of because I didn't really know my co-workers well enough yet and scared to death because I don't know where I'm really going...

I get in the room and the gal has me lay down on the table and she turns the monitor towards her so she can "get oriented" before spinning it around. No problem... Well, she starts saying that I'm not supposed to be there, I'm supposed to be down in ante-natal having them do the ultrasound and I was getting so worried that something was wrong that I yelled at her, "WTF is wrong...!" She thought I knew that I was having the twins...I had NO clue and promptly started to cry because it was the last thing in the world I expected, my DH wasn't there and I was scared to death. To make matters worse, once I got ahold of him, he didn't believe me...that GOD the tech printed out about 10 pictures for me...

The sexes were not an issue with me, I only wanted healthy babies!

Very shocked on both accounts. :) I do have a set of boy/girl cousin twins (same age I am) but otherwise we have no twins on either side. Never in a million years thought we were really having twins. If my hubby hadn't been there, he would never have believed me.

The ultrasound tech, who we knew well b/c he had scanned us for our first pg, said "you guys wanna see something cool? Here is one baby ... and here is another baby!" We laughed hysterically for probably 10 minutes. Our dd was with us and thought we had lost our minds.

*Although, we did joke about it just 2 days before, at my dd's 2nd birthday party. My ms this time was way worse and my boobs hurt a lot worse too, so we joked that I was having twins due to my exacerbated symptoms.

When we found out they were ID and boys (same appointment, at 14 weeks) we were really, really shocked. I thought we were having 2 girls or 1 of each, never thought we'd have 2 boys. :) And ID twins were very very far from our minds!

I fell off the table shocked. We had an u/s at 6 weeks and only 1! At my normal 22 week u/s we found out identical girls. We were so shocked. When we walked in we kept teasing the doctor that we didn't want to know sexes and don't tell us it is twins. When he told us twins, we thought he was joking and he said "Ma'am, I can't joke about those things, you are having twins!" At that point, I had to know the sex!!

This is the same thing my docter said. She was only looking at one baby doing measurements and stuff and then she said lets look around for fun and see if we can tell what you are having. At the time I was already 18 weeks pregnant. She got really quiet and kept moving from one side of my belly to the other. Finally she said you are having twins and I was fell off the table shocked (if that could really happen). I asked her if she was kidding and she said that she made sure before she told us and that she didn't joke about something that serious. Mine are identical so I guess we just got lucky with some very precious miracles.

I was fall off the table shocked when I found out and about the genders. I convinced Peter not to go to my 1st appt with me cause it was going to be OH so boring I told him! I said they never do u/s its just gonna be a lot of info & tests. So when the ob told me he was doing an u/s I thought, great now he is going to be SO mad lol.

 this is exactly what happened here!

I had NO strong symptoms, NO history in my family and NO inkling. In fact, before I started seeing the specialist at 13 wks (due to complications with DD), my first OB told me he didn't think I was as far along as I thought, since I was so small!

Totally fall off the table shocked. Not so much about genders. We knew they were ID, so were expecting 2 of the same.

I voted a little shocked for twins. We did IVF, they put two in. I knew it was possible, but when you are having trouble conceiving, it's hard to think that the first IVF cycle with two embies in will actual end up as twins.

The sexes I was shocked because I was SURE I was having two boys. I wanted a girl so badly, and at 13w the u/s tech said A was a boy, and couldn't tell about B. I just knew B was a boy.

Wrong! one of each, my two blessings! Now I can't believe I wanted a girl so bad ... my daughter is a DIVA! my son is the easiest thing going ... haha

I was fell off the table and passed out shocked when I found out. I had gone to a specialist for fibroids and she told me :
Specialist: "there is nothing I can do for you"
    ME: "WHAT!?!?"
Specialist: "well you pregnant" "Lets do an ultrasound to make sure"
ME: "Check please... we weren't expecting a pregnancy"
Specialist: " hmmm... ok... how strange....interesting...." (While she doing the ultrasound and checking my ovaries)
    ME: "is everything ok"
Specialist: "sit up please....yes, you are pregnant and I saw TWO!" and gave me a pictue of the two

At that point I said "you are sh*tting me!" and proceeded to pass out. LITERALLY! She said she saw my eyes roll in the back of my head and I was a goner.

After smelling salts/crackers/and lots of water I started crying and shaking.

My husband on the other hand when he got home and I told him:
    1: was happy
2: said he knew it! He knew if we got preggers that it would be two (and twins does not run in the family!!)

Finding out the sexes? two boys.. no shock ....just a little suprised. We had a feeling taht they were boys from the very beginning.

I was so shocked by the discovery of twins that I started to cry and I literally did not stop shaking for 5-6 hours. But I was not remotely shocked that I was having two girls. I had a weird feeling at 8 weeks that I was having identical girls (I even posted it on a message board elsewhere!) and that's what I have.

I went for my first ultrasound at 19 1/2 weeks-never measured large or had any reason to suspect twins. DH's older brother has ID twin girls, but there are no twins in my family at all. We were both "fall off the table" shocked and in tears when we found out we were having twins. DH and I were both crying tears of shock, fear, and disbelief. It took a long time to sink in. We went to Germany a few days later to visit DH'a brother and his family. Living with twins helped deal with the reality of it for us.
