I think doing it early is definitely a benefit. The experience between older DS and our newborn DS is the age. Whereas Kaleb had a huge issue with it at 18 months, Benjamin didn't even shed a tear (as you experienced with yours). The doc said they dipped his binky is some sugary syrup and he sucked away on it and never even knew anything was up. And the healing process was much quicker and less painful (or so it seems to me). He didn't cry at diaper changes...except for once when DH was cleaning him up and accidentally wiped his penis...the wipe had alcohol in it. So yeah, owch! But other than that it has been a completely different experience this time around. DH and I also argued about circumcising Benjamin because of what we went through with Kaleb. But the doc assured us it would be a whole different ballgame this time, and he was right, it was. :)

ETA yes skin bonding can be an issue. Older DS had that and that was ultimately how DH won me over with getting it done. However...apparently when you wait to have it done, skin bonding can also be an issue even after the procedure. With Older DS at his 2 year check up the doc showed me how part of it had grown back together and he had to manually separate it there in his office.

i blame myself, i brought it up first.

i hope the OP got the feedback she was looking for, since the topic was ear piercing for her daughter. i would say more but it's dinner time and owen is insisting on gagging himself with his spoon for fun. it's nothing but retching and giggling in there. :gah:

Speaking of circumcision :p DS couldn't have it done at discharge cause he was too small. The urologist wanted him at 15 pounds before they would do it, so I have been planning for July (8 months old, actual age). But my mom wants me to postpone it due to some travel plans. So he wouldn't get it done til September or October (10-11 months, actual age). Do you think that is too old?

He is Jewish, so we are definitely getting it done, but I don't want him to have a horrible experience with it--I'm just not sure where the cutoff age is where he will know what is going on and be upset?

I was told by our ped that anything after 2 weeks the baby had to have significantly more pain management. I'm sorry that's probably not what you want to hear. We were planning on doing ours, too, but due to size & we were really working on breastfeeding, we postponed. After the 3rd attempt, I gave up (and could care less, now!)

I am sorry, but earrings do not make a baby/child/adult beautiful. What a silly thing for your MIL to say.

My DD just got her ears pierced 7 weeks ago. She is 5 years old. I wanted to wait until she wanted them and could (under the supervision of my husband and I) somewhat take care of them. She is very diligent about turning them and cleaning them. You can tell she has a lot of pride in her decision to get earrings.

as for the earrings... #1, like everyone has said earrings don't make anyone beautiful... beauty comes from the inside, from you as a person, hopefully you can assist in bringing out her inner beauty.

#2 oh my goodness, who can deal with one more thing? I can barely get shoes on my twins 4 feet!

#3 you can't tell she's a girl? what?!! who cares... my twins (boy and girl) didn't have much hair until about 15 mo. and she still looked girlie, and if need be, slap a head band or tape a bow to her head... you don't need to put a holes in her body to make a permanent statement.

I can't believe your mil said that! ugh!

Ugghh!! My mother-in-law does the same thing! She always tells my babies that next year they are coming to stay overnight at her house Fridays and Saturdays. Hello ... I'm their mother, I will decide IF they stay overnight and I can guarantee it will not be every weekend!!

I married into a Greek family. I feel your pain. :) or rather :(

When my in-laws came to the hospital to see the babies, the first thing my fil said was "where did you get this name Claire from? That's not a Greek name". Sigh ...
