My husband and I as well as our 19 year old daughter have them. When my oldest son turns 16 in June we'll be getting him one too. I still haven't decided on the twins or if I should wait two more years until they turn 16 and they will be good for ten years instead of five.
I will add though, that if we didn't travel (cruises where technically they are NOT required) we would not have them. Passports just makes things so much easier.

My husband and I both have them as well as my oldest son. My daughter needs to renew hers and we don't have them for the twins yet.

Adrian and I and the kids have our passports - we got the kids' passports in May - we needed them - we went to Romania in the September. Rachael - what is this Global Entry that you mentioned? I never heard about it before but it sounds like we need it :).

It's $100 for 5 years. You apply online and then schedule an interview where you answer simple questions about your travel history and get fingerprinted. It's really easy. Then they give you a number that you can save with your frequent flier accounts so you always get precheck if it's available. And when coming back to the country through customs, you just go to a kiosk and bypass customs lines.
Oh, and a lot of Amex cards will reimburse you the $100. Mine did.

None of us have them. Never needed them and don't see us needing them anytime soon.
