Last week I learned that both babies are boys. baby B looks great with no issues. However baby A has a cyst forming on his brain. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this? I don't know much about its size or placement yet as I really shut down when the doctor told me. I am going tomorrow to have tests done then meeting with a bunch of different specialists on thursday to discuss the findings.

The only information I have now is that as soon as the baby is born he will be taken to the Childrens hospital in Toronto but the course of treatment will vary and we won't really know the full extent of what we are dealing with until the baby is born.

's momma. I know you are stressed out and thinking worst case scenario {I know I was :(} but try not to stress to much about it yet. Both of my babies had several cysts on their brains. They found it on the u/s at my 17th week u/s. I, like you, shut down after I had the doctor come in and talk to us. Good news first: they are two and a half years old now and have no issues at all. What I suggest is definately staying away from google'ing this. PLEASE don't make the mistake I did. What my doctor had told me was that with todays technology they are picking up alot more on these cysts. I did go in after three weeks and they were still there but shrinking. By 28ish weeks, the cysts were completely gone. I am hoping this is the case for your baby boy as well. Keep us posted.

I have a good friend who's perfectly healthy, normal almost 2 year old also had a couple cysts on her brain. Two months later, they were gone. So, hang in there, and please don't worry yourself crazy!

I had the same thing on one of mine and two weeks later, the other tech couldn't find anything! From my understanding, they dissapate over time and it's usually nothing to worry about. I will keep praying for you cause I know how hard that information can be.

I don't have any experience with this but I wanted to say I hope everything turns out just fine. Hopefully it will go away as it did with some of the other mom's on here!

Hi there! When I was pregnant with my son, who is now 6, the doctors told me he had a small cyst on his brain as well. I was totally freaked out, until my midwife told me that normally these 'cysts' go away on their own and not to worry too much. When he was born he was perfectly fine with no cysts on his brain. I don't know how it will turn out for you but I wanted to share my experience with this situation to ease your mind a bit, hopefully!

One of my girls had a cyst on her brain as well. Hers was unusual in that we didn't even see it until 30 weeks, and it was still there when she was born. We had an ultrasound done of her brain when she was a couple of weeks old, just to double check on it, but even though it was still there, it did not and had not caused her any problems at all, and the doctors don't even feel that there is any need to check on it again. Try not to worry! As others have said, seeing these cysts via ultrasound is becoming very common as ultrasound technology continues to improve. Most of the cysts disappear well before birth, but even those that don't most often cause no problems. Hang in there! :)

One of my DDs had one at 17 weeks. It dissapeared by 21. She DOES have a small bit of more than normal fluid in the spaces around her brain (but not hydrocephalus) and a LARGE head. They *think* that may be part of the cyst that resolved, but maybe not (maybe the way she was made, maybe preemie issue). No way to know. She has had an MRI at 1 1/2 and there was no cyst at all!

She is a wondeful walking, talking 3 year old!

I don't have any personal experience with this- but a very close friend of mine has had two singletons and both babies showed cysts on the brain during her routine 20 week ultrasounds. By the 36th week, her first son's cyst had totally disappeared and he is a wonderfully smart and happy two year old. During her second pregnancy, her second son's cyst was gone by 28 weeks and he is a wonderful, healthy seven month old! Hugs to you, I hope you have a similar experience.

super common - usually resolves it self within a few mos. this is one of those situations where too much information is not a good thing - it just causes worry with no reason. our baby b had a dangling choroid and when i got on the internet there was no info. then i spoke with my doc and she was like - oh yes the infamous dangling choroid - a close second to the cyst and then she laughed because it is something that is often seen but rarely effects the baby in any way. and just makes the expectant parents crazy with worry. good luck. i am sure everything will be ok.

We found out our Baby A had 2 cysts on his brain at the 20-week ultrasound. From the ultrasound, they sent us to see a midwife who explained that they were unusual but not abnormal and in most cases, disappeared. I went for another ultrasound at 24 weeks and both cysts were gone. I hope the same is true for your baby.

thanks all. I had a bunch of tests this last week then met with a ped specialist. The plan from here is that I will have an ultraound at 22 weeks. If it has began to shrink then overall they feel things will be fine. If it is the same then we will do an MRI and keep monitoring until birth. If it grows at all then we will do an MRI and have the nurology surgen do a consult at sick kids hospital, and from there decide if we will need to deliver early or just keep watching.

Over all things look good. She did say that cysts can be an indication of chromasonal abnormalities but she thought that because the babys heart looked perfect as well as the other organs the likelihood was very slim.
