My girls were about three weeks old and my mother was over helping me. The girls were napping when I started to hear mewing that sounded to me like a little puppy whining. I turned to my mother in all seriousness and said, "Awww, so cute, how did a puppy get in here?" My mother looked at me like I had two heads and said, "KELLY, YOUR BABIES ARE CRYING! There aren't any puppies in here. Are you crazy?"

I was so EXHAUSTED I think I was delirious. LOL!

This! All the time. And similarly, I'd fall asleep nursing one of them, then wake up and put him/her back in bed. Well, many times I almost put them on top of one another because it was dark in the room and I'd think I had the other twin, so I'd try to put him/her in the wrong bassinet. I think (?) I actually did put them on top of each other one time, but fortunately the one on bottom loudly told me of my mistake.

UGH! Here's one for you - and it's not even an early months sleep deprivation story. On Saturday, DH and I took the girls (11 months) to a children's fair. The day was fun, but exhausting for all. When it was almost nap time, we walked back to our car, took the girls out of their stroller, put them in their car seats, and drove away... without our stroller! Thankfully it was just our umbrella stroller, so replacing it won't be that bad, but we're both kicking ourselves.

It was when my kids were a year or so old. I was grocery shopping and distinctly remember thinking "I'm completely with it now. I feel almost normal again..." I was pushing my cart in the store and a man came up to me and said, "Ummmm, I think you have my cart...." Sure enough, it was not my cart so I gave it back to him, but not before asking him, "Where's my cart?" Like he would have any idea....I found my cart a couple of aisles back, fortunately with my purse still in the seating area.

I have a different take. DH lost his job right after the boys were born starting what turned out to be a 18 month long run of no full time work. We had to live off of our savings, family, assistance, and eventually even filed bankruptcy. But I was so blissfully sleep deprived that the situation, which would drive some crazy, didn't seem so bad. Had I been well rested that first year, I might have looked at our situation and freaked out but I was so sleepy, I didn't care, lol. I did what we needed to do to survive and by the time they were STTN, DH had found a part time job that gave full time hours. Thankfully 3 years later we are in a better spot than we were!
