Has anyone had cerclage? I'm 20 weeks mono/di, and had an ultrasound today which showed my cervix dilated 8 mm. I was put on bed rest and told to come back in 48 hours. If it has dilated any more, she wants to do cerclage on Friday to prevent further changes. I'm reading mixed things, and wondered if anyone has any feedback or experience? Thanks!

    Hi,

I was 19 weeks pregnant with my daughter in 2006 I went in for a routine ultrasound and I was 7 mm and my bag bulging I was admitted to the hospital and a Perinatologist placed a cerclage I stayed in the hospital for a few days and remained on strict bed rest until my C-section at 37 weeks. In 2009, I became pregnant with my b/g DiDi twins I did have a planned cerclage placed at 12 weeks but I was already 2 mm dilated and my doctors didn't seem hopeful but to make a long story short my twins are three now and my cerclage held until the day of my c section. Since I had so much time bed resting I did so much research on cerclages if I can be any help or support to you please let me know [email protected]

I had an emergency cerclage placed at 22wks and remained on hospital bed rest until 35wks. There's no doubt that it helped me from delivering my twins earlier.

If I get pregnant again I'll have one done early on.

Please feel free to send me any questions you may have!

I have not been on TS for a year and a half… but look in from time to time (life is busy with 3 boys) … and I logged back in just to reply to this post … I had a Cerclage at 17 weeks… and I fully feel its what kept my dudes in until 36.2… two days longer than my singleton :)
I also feel TS really help me make my decision to have it… both sides of the fence weighed in and helped me… I had 3 Drs weighing in… one who was for it (my multiples specialist) one against it (my peri) and one who was non committal (my regular OB)…
Good luck on your decision… feel free to PM me if you have any questions about it… I remember how scared I was… but would do it again in a heartbeat!

PS i was not on bed rest after and was able to maintain "relationships" :FIFblush: if you get what i'm winking at ;) until the night i went into labor... on my own

Thank you each for the thoughtful replies. I've decided to have it done, and appreciate the success stories. I've read about the risks, especially with the emergent cerclage but the benefits definitely seem to outweigh the risks. I had two easy and successful single pregnancies before the twins, so this has definitely caught me by surprise! Keep your fingers crossed that all goes well tomorrow :) thanks!!

Today is Friday… I will be thinking of you… I remember that day as if it was last week… it also doesn’t help that I had mine right before the holidays… so I always think of it a week or two before Christmas

Good news for me this week, my cervix held steady at Friday's ultrasound so they sent me home to stay on bed rest! I may still need the cerclage next week, but I was glad things remained steady! Thanks again for everyone's input.

Yes… even my husband said… isn’t today the day the young women on TS was suppose to have her Cerclage… I’m glad all held steady… let us know if things change  … and come chat with us if you get board on bed rest in the middle of the night… that was always my case when I would be put on it for a few days here and there… and having a 9 year old it was hard following the rules :acute:

    :woohoo: Noahs ROCK!!!! :woohoo:

Back for another sonogram tomorrow, hoping my cervix has stayed the same this week! Being on bed rest has made me realize how many contractions I was having! They've mostly gone away, but I had just thought I was feeling a lot of stretching before.

Good news again. No change in my cervix, so no cerclage needed this week either. Staying on bed rest... That's a relief!,

You're a rock star, Lauren! Keep doing what you're doing! If you end up needing a cerclage at some point, then fine. But, DANG, you should be so proud of the measures you've taken so far and how far you've come. Well done, mama!
