Oh God, I couldn't manage if I didn't carry them both, it would be a major pain to take 2 trips for me. I always carry them both, downstairs in the morning, upstairs for naps, etc. They are 17 and 14 pounds and actually getting easier to carry b/c they have more control and are starting to grab on. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I carry both of them and their clothes down in the morning so I don't have to run back upstairs for anything.

Same here- I can't stand multiple trips up and down the stairs- I'm usually in a rush to get everyone out the door so I'm guaranteed 3 or 4 trips anyway with diaper bags and other things, so I consolidate! I look forward to them having more control so they can hold on!!

Do you have a baby sling. That way you could carry both but only have to hold onto one, unless they are still pretty small and you can put both in separate slings and carry them hands free. This may help evenly distribute the weight of the babies and might not hurt your back as much. Good luck.

I never carried mine at the same time either. It was just too easy to accidentally trip or have one slip. I've heard a few stories of babies falling (one head first onto concrete) when one suddenly twisted or threw herself backwards as well. And these weren't mothers who weren't being careful... I just did it one at a time and I figure it was good exercise that way. ;)
