Just an update, baby B has not grown much and so the MFM recommended the babies be delivered. I got my first steroid shot today and will get another tomorrow. I am 33w today and they will likely section me within a week. I'm scared at the thought of having them so early and small. Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to educate myself on what to expect as this is so scary for me. :(

Awww i know this isn't how you expected them to come into the world, but at 33 wks they'll do great, just be on the small side! Go post some questions in the NICU forum and I'm sure you'll get some great responses there from "been there done that" mama's!!

As for as u/s discrepencies....my last u/s at 36 wks, my son was estimated at 7.4 lbs and my daughter was at 6.2 lbs. They were born 2 days later, my son was 6.4 and my daughter was 7.2. So each was a lb off, my son was a lb lighter than estimated, and my daughter was a lb heavier. And this was at a MFM u/s! So there's still a wide margin for error even now!

:grouphug: I'm sorry you're scared! YOU CAN DO THIS! Like Danielle said, weights are often off!

Those steroid shots are great- I only got one with my girls (at 30 weeks) and it made a huuge difference. They never required vents, just CPAP for a bit and they were quickly breathing room air.

Keep us updated and stay positive. 34 weeks is still pretty dang good! You did a fabulous job!

I got the steroid shots at 26 weeks and when the girls were born at 34 weeks jessy breathed room air just fine and jazzy only had oxygen for 2 hours. They really do help. They just hurt like a big dog.

How much are they estimating their weights at? I had the same thin happen. Jessy hadn't grown enough on Friday so they decided to deliver them on Monday I think (twin mom brain).

Remember Jess was only 2lbs 13 oz and went home after 21 days. They likely will need nicu time but not likely loads

Thanks so much for the support. It really helps. Baby A (girl) is estimated at 4lb2oz and Baby B (boy) is estimated at 2lb14oz. Twinxes- it sounds pretty close to your little ones. Could you hold them right away? Did you breastfeed? If so right away? I will have to hunt down the NICU forum now, thanks for the suggestion.

Jess was gauged at 2lbs 3 oz and born at 2lbs 13oz. I was able to kangaroo her that day since she didn't have any oxygen. Jess was never able to breast fed and my milk didn't come in right away. Jess's mouth was just too tiny and she tired too easy. I did pump and she got part of her feds by gravtubes. They both had to go under the jaundice lights.

The nicu forum is under health and well being down the front page.
