I had my appt for the genetic testing today( spinal bifida, etc...), luckily they gott he blood on the first try ( usually takes them 4-5 times to get it), then saw my doc. He comes in,measures my belly, then tries to hear rthe heart beats with the doppler ting. After 5-6 tries, he says" i cant get em, but lets just take a look with the u/s real quick to make sure they r ok", so i go to the us room and the tech says " we r just doing a quick check to make sure they are alive" How freaking rude was this? i mean i have def had to said better to me before like " lets make sure thy r ok" but " alive?" OMG!!! anyways just had to vent. They are both fine, heart rates at 150, and we dont get to o back till Dec 18th , when we get to see thier sex's, etc.. Has anyone else had trouble finding thier heartbeats with the doppler at 15 weeks? Thanks for letting me vent [IMG]

Sounds like you had one uncaring insensitive tech. I can't comment on the heartbeats because we had an ultrasound at 14 weeks and heard them and then at my next appointment which I believe was 18 weeks we heard them then.

We could only find one heartbeat until 20 plus weeks.

Sorry the tech was so uncouth! What a terrible way to say it!

Yes! We have had to have an ultrasound every visit because they either
can't get one or both heartrates or now especially - they are the same or close enough that they can't tell who is who!!
I am sorry that that insensitive tech said that to you - HOW RUDE!!

Obviously that u/s tech has no tact or is just plain rude...sorry you had to experience that! To make you feel better about the heartbeats, my OB only heard 1 heartbeat from 11-21 weeks. Then we went in for our routine u/s at 21-1/2 weeks and found out we are having twins. I get the impression this happens with some frequency. Sounds like your little ones are doing just fine! What a horrible thing to say? I hope you told the doctor.
My OB never tried to use the doppler-she does a quick u/s every visit. She said you cant tell if you are hearing 2 heartbeats or the same one in 2 places. I am sorry that you had to deal with this idiot. But everything is ok with the babies and that's what really matters.

    Hugs,
    Beth

Alive, huh??? I've heard some interesting things, but this is at the top of the list!
My ob never uses the doppler, just jumps straight for the u/s.

Some people really lack the tact, and bedside manners, I think I
would have told him off right then and there.

OMG -- How freaking Rude can one be? I bet your heart just fell to the floor. Big Hugs as I am sure this brought back some painful memories from last year sweetie. Next time you see your doctor, please say something to him/her about the way this guy handled the situation. He needs a crash course on how to handle these situations. You may even want to call your doctor so that they can set this individual straight right away.

[IMG] The good news is Baby A and Baby B are doing great!

That was not very nice of her at all. My doctor doesn't even try to hear them he just looks at them with his U/S.

I agree w/ pp, tell the dr. about it. That kind of comment is completely unprofessional and the doc should know if a paid employee is behaving like this...regarding something as precious as your babies' lives.

I just can't believe some of the rude, tasteless things I've heard from medical 'professionals' over the years. When I am a patient I remind myself I am a PAYING CLIENT and deserve to be treated with utmost respect. When I worked, my career was in banking and I can't even fathom talking disrespectfully to a client, and that's only regarding MONEY. [IMG] Uggghh, sorry you had that experience.

That's just plain inconsiderate! I cannot believe a professional would say that. Especially given that I am sure she HAS had situations occur where the baby was indeed deceased! I would say something so that she doesn't say that again!

    That was awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sorry you went through that!!

BUT YUP! couldn't hear both hb via doppler until later on. Couldn't get both at my 16 week check up but heard both at 22 weeks. They were always fine on U/S.

UGH!!! What an idiot to say that kind of thing. I'm sorry. I had one of the Dr.'s in our practice say that I would have an u/s in 4 weeks and make sure that one hasn't fallen out in the parking lot. I was totally taken back b/c I had a m/c right before concieving the twins and I thought that kind of comment was uncalled for. I know he was kidding, but come on...read my chart!! My OB did an u/s at 8 weeks and 12 weeks to locate hb's, then we heard the hb's at 16 weeks. Sometimes it's just hard to locate them at that point. I'm glad everything worked out well, but they should have thought about they way they were saying things. [IMG]

That was very rude!!! My doctor (and the nurse) had trouble finding the heartbeats at one of my last appointments, I think it was the 18 week one. They told me it was no big deal, not to worry, they would just do a quick u/s scan, and everything was okay.
Sorry the tech was so inconsiderate, but I'm glad everything was okay!

At 32 weeks with my singleton the nurse practitioner had a difficult time finding his heartbeat, he ended up just being lower than she expected, she said it was very common for them to move around and make it difficult to find the heartbeat. I would definately let the dr know how the tech behaved though.

I remember having to have an u/s at probably about the same point because they couldn't detect it with the doppler.

OMG how rude. Then again he is a man and it must be a job only to him, cant really expect him to know how a woman feels about these things. But surely a little tact comes with working with pregnant ladies. some men just dont get it!!! [IMG]

Argh! some people are so insensitive and thoughtless! I'm sorry you had to run into one of them. I hope your peri will mention it to him, to be sure he doesn't say something that inconsiderate to another mother!
