Hi just wondering if any of you started your pregnancy a bit overweight, and if so, how are things going? I am 5'8, and started my pregnancy at 184 pounds. I am 25.5 weeks, and weigh 204. I am also 34 years old. So far, blood pressure is good and things are going well, I think. However, sometimes my heart rate feels really high and I occasionally get palpitations. I have ALWAYS gotten palpitations though, even when not pregnant (this is my second pregnancy) and the cardiologist cleared them as "nothing to worry about".
I am still nervous about delivering twins and the stress that two cause on the body.

Just wanted to see if there was anyone else out there in a similar situation.

Thanks!

I started out at 200. I lost 40 lbs before getting pregnant.. .good thing, huh? I'm also shorter than you... by 5 in. infact (5'3). I'm supposed to be on bedrest so I feel like I'm just sitting around packing on the pounds. Not looking forward to all the dieting and exercising I'm going to have to do after this. Ugh.

I'm 25 weeks and 3 days (I think...whatever the ticker says..lol). Only 26 though.

With my last pregnancy I had some blood pressure issues, but have made it this far without much trouble. I think losing the weight before getting pregnant helped.

I'm looking forward to gettting my body back and getting down to near my goal weight of 160. As for right now..I'm trying not to think about it. I don't even look at the scale at the doctor's office and I ask them not to tell me what it says.

I was 39 and a lot plump when I had my twins. I am not currently preg my b/g twins just turned 4 yrs last month. I weighed 225 when they were born. I did get gestation diabetic with them. This is the only complication I had. The doc said I was healthier than some younger ppl he sees. I sure you will do ok with your pregnancy. I did get tired easily toward the middle of my preg and toward the end when we went grocery shopping I had to use one of those electric scooter things. Cause it was hard on my back to walk. I did go on semi bed rest and had to quit work at 29 weeks due to pre-term labor wanting to start. This helped keep the kiddos in alittle longer, I ended up having a emergancy c-section after 13 hrs labor cuz the babies were going into fetal distress. This had nothing to do with my weight, just my crazy body.

Good luck and congratulations. Keep us updated.

I was 230lbs when I got pregnant. I only gained 25lbs during the pregnancy. I was not dieting or anything, your body just consumes the calories. I had no complications w/ blood pressure or anything until the very end. I delivered the boys at 36 weeks and everything was great. The pregnancy weight quickly came off and I am now back at my starting point. Now if I could just lose the pre-pregnancy weight ;)

I was 213 when I got pregnant (I am 5ft 10) and I lost 32 lbs just prior to that. I have gained almost 40lbs so far and other than GD (i had it last time when I was 40 lbs heavier).

Yup - in a similar boat. This is my 3rd pregnancy, but my first twin pregnancy. I'm 33 (almost 34) and am about 220 pounds at 5'5". I was 240 pounds when I got pg with my son, so I guess I'm moving in the right direction. :p

I gained only about 16 pounds with my son and he was 8 pounds when he was born. I didn't really try to do that, but was concerned about too much weight gain, since my back was really bothering me. I did not get gestational diabetes or high blood pressure, but I was already high risk for a possible incompetent cervix (which didn't happen - thank goodness!)

Anyway, I'm a little worried this time, b/c my blood pressure is already high (started going up pre-pg... under a bit of stress so not helping). Haven't been to see my OB yet (I'm only 8 weeks or so and still seeing my fertility doc), so not sure what she is going to say or what my protocol is going to be.

The worst part is finding maternity clothes!! Everything is so expensive and many maternity stores don't even sell them. Thankfully I have most of my things already, but I still need a suit for the summer here in AZ!

Thanks for all your replies ladies! So nice to hear from women in similar situations! It is reassuring, that's for sure!

2Pugmom - I love the name Jackson! I am pregnant with boy/girl twins and our top boy name is Jackson!

9. I think I was 203 when I got pregnant, I've gained 17 lbs to date @ 31w6d. My doctors have a weight gain goal of 15-25 lbs, hope I make it! My GD test came back clear and my blood pressure is still good... (29 here)

Thanks to fertility medications I started out this pregnancy at 238 and I'm 5'3. I have gained 16 pounds so far and I'm 34 weeks and 5 days. I'm also 36. But both babies already weigh over 5 pounds, haven't had any issues with blood pressure, swelling or anything like that.

I had my girls at 34, they were babies #4&5. I was 5'5" and about 195 pre-pregnancy with them and gained about 25 lbs, until the last 10 days when I had LOTS of water gain which equaled about another 20-25lbs. I did spend the last 9 weeks on bedrest for PTL, but ended up being induced with them at almost 38 weeks. My bloodpressure was always fine, and other than PTL contractions, the only problem I had was some anemia. Once I learned to take the iron pills w/ vit C, that cleared up, too. I was a lot more tired and it was a harder pregnancy than with my single babies just for the sheer amount of baby, fluid and placenta you carry, etc., but not full of complications or health risks.

I was 230 lbs. and gained 33 lbs. with my twins. I carried them until I was induced at 38 +1 when I was induced. They were born healthy, good weights, no problems during my pregnancy. I had pre-e with my first pregnancy, but not with the twins. Go figure.

I only started gaining weight during my pregnancy in the last 8 weeks. I had actually lost weight up until that point, but that darn pre-E and all the water weight that came along with it made me gain 30 pounds (60 pounds in that two month stretch).

:)

I am 34 and this is my 4th pregnancy. I was 196 pre-pregnancy and am currently 205 at 25 weeks. I am already on bedrest and just hoping for the best.

Great thread, good to see that we are not alone when it comes to twin pregnancys.

I was 188 when I got pregnant and put on 35 lbs during the pregnancy (I was also 32 when I got pregnant). I can tell you that I had a pretty easy pregnancy, my BP was always very good. The only problems I had were swollen ankles and feet, sciatica in the back. I delivered at 38 weeks. I did lose the pregnancy weight, now I just need to lose the pre-pregnancy weight!

Hello, I'm 34 and have only gained about 24 lbs. No GD or HBP either. I'm 5'7 and weighed just over 200 when I got pregnant. I was surprised that I had only gained this much weight, but it's because the babies just take up so much room in your body that your stomach just can't hold that much food, or you don't have much of an appetite. You're body will do what it needs to do to maintain you and your babies healthy so don't stress too much on the weight thing, and then again, don't overdo it either!

I love this thread...it has made me feel so much better about where I'm at. I started off at about 215 after gaining a ton of wait on fertility meds (ugh). I am now about 240 and can't seem to slow that down. This is all my doctor wanted me to gain so I am a little stressed at every appointment. So far my BP and everything looks great (I had pre-e with my first pregnancy). I am 34.

I am so anxious to have my body back after 2 years of fertility issues and then pregnancy!!!

I will post this and I know I will be the biggest girl on here. I'm 25 and before I got pregnant I weighed 312! I'm 5'9 and I'm 31 weeks pregnant and weigh 310 as of now so I take it i've lost a lot of weight being pregnant with twins. I think its a combo of getting off birth control and having to take insulin shots since I've been pregnant! My waist is 61 inches around as of now and I feel huge, I cant wait to lose all this weight. I hope I make all you other mommas feel better about being overweight and pregnant.

you're not the only "big girl" around here. I'm big, old, fat, and have big feet. (still not sure what that means, but that's what one of my peri's told me at a visit)
5'9
35 in June
started at 260 (doc says 270, but I didn't see her until 9w) now up to 310, it's tapering off now, only a pound a week! yay!

I'm under 30 (23 when I conceived) but I can relate to being "larger".

I'm 5'10" and from 2002 - 2004, I went from around 350 pounds to about 235 (thanks to an undiagnosed case of hyperthyroidism) and started out my pregnancy at around 245 pounds. At 34 weeks, I'm up to 290, which is just fine with me, because pretty much the only things that have increased in size are my belly and my breasts. I swear, I haven't gained an inch on my arms or thighs.

My sister had two single pregnancies, starting at weights 285 and 280 (she's 5'9"), and gained less than 10 lbs with each (and smoked, don't get me started), and only had issues with swollen ankles (she's on her feet a lot at work, so the doctor gave her a note each time to get off 6 weeks early). But both kids were fine and are growing up healthy, currently ages 9 and 7! I think your body will balance itself out, just make sure you eat healthy foods and get out and enjoy the fresh air and summer sunshine!

Glad to know I'm not alone! I'm 29, and 254 lbs when we had the pregnancy confirmed. I already knew the weight was an issue but my OB just felt she had to point out that my being overweight was making this even more of a high risk (mono/di twins). I'd lost 20 lbs before getting pregnant though and my doctor confirmed it probably helped me get pregnant. I also had an undiagnosed hyperthyroid issue but caught that well before we got pregnant. Good luck to all! :)

This has to be my number one concern besides possibly twin to twin transfusion. Thank goodness for this thread.

I conceived a few weeks before my 32nd birthday. I weighed between 210-230lbs. Only an estimate since I never kept track of my weight.
I'm 5'4 and actually hold my weight very well. Even as my tummy grows and my waistline is almost gone I still don't have the weight or even show. LOL

At my last visit at the first of May I was only 226lbs and 21 weeks I think. So far I've gained very little, but the babys are on target. The peri's and my ob's seem to be fine with my weight.

My blood pressure is excellent like it always has been. No problems with my tummy measurements. I only had a small UTI last month that was due to lack of water. A round of antibiotics and now a gallon or more of water a day has fixed that.

I am so happy I am not the only plus size twin mom out there! I'm 5'3 240lbs and at a little over 8 weeks I'm actually down 3lbs. I never gained a pound with my daughters pregnancy. I was so worried being plus size would mean these babies are coming very early but it seems most of you are doing really well. So thank you for this post! It's made me feel so much better!
