I'm actually still reading... I've been reading a lot for work this month which has been cutting into my pleasure reading time. I have to admit, here in the 500s that I'm liking it. It's still looooong but good. I do like Wally Lamb.

I just got the book from the library. Holy moly it is long. I really think he could of made two separate books out of this. One about the Quirks and the other about Caelum and his wife and her trauma from Columbine.

I'm about 350-400 pages in. It is a really good book!!!

LOL! I guess the only reason this thread is still pinned is because I only just now finished reading it... and just didn't until...

Did I like it? Yes. Not love, but good. My favorite part of the book was the evocation of mythology through his teaching -- his allusion to Orpheus and Eurydice (if he turned to look at her she might disappear) genius. And I think, core to the story -- everything in the story seemed so tenuous. Marriages, sanity, lives... turn and look and they might disappear.

Or at least that's my take.

    But too long.

    I finally finished this one!

It was good, I will agree that it was very long. I think it got really bogged down with a lot of the family history/Lizzy story. I didn't like the way he killed Maureen off, it just seemed to negate all she went through with her PTSD.

I finally finished too. I was so upset when Maureen died. I would have loved to see her come out of prison a stronger person and with a purpose. I thought it was too much with the family history-he could have made that a separate book. I did like how Velvet's story wrapped up, though. Now off to the next book of the month :)

    My sentiments exactly!

Hooray, Marie and Maureen for finishing! Now onto "Handle With Care" right? ;)

Yeah, still on the list for that one. Put it on hold when I found out it was coming out!! So January or February I think!

Finished this last week. I agree w/Kathryn & Kim's review. All in all, I'd say it was worth the time it took, but it's not one I'll likely ever gush to anyone as a must-read.

Really enjoyed the first 1/3-1/2 of the book. Killing of Mo at the end was stupid and I would have preferred a lot more Velvet throughout. I didn't necessarily mind the family history potion, but would have liked to see the Lydia/Lilian relationship explored further in place of too much Lizzy.

She's Come Undone remains my favorite Wally Lamb b/c i personally related to that one better. Not to mention I read IKTMIT while on bedrest with the twins and it made me really question the person who'd suggested I read it knowing I was expecting ID twins  and slightly crazy to read it at that time in my life.
