I feel like I am in that old ketchup commercial "Anticipation, Anticipa-a-tion, it's keeping me wa-a-a-a-aiting". I don't know where I am on the library's list.

    I'm down to double digits -- #88.

The problem is, I am SURE I won't be able to read it within the loan period. And because there are surely others in the queue behind me I won't be able to renew. I guess if I get hooked I'll have to buy it... or just pay a big overdue fine.

Yeah, I'm going to pay the fine ... I'm more than half way through ... I really like it ... and it was due back this past monday. Oh well. I gotta finish it!

I just started mine yesterday and am on page 169. Can we discuss anything yet? Nothing like a spoiler, but
for those of you that have read This Much I Know is True, what did you think of Lamb putting the Birdsey twins in this book? I liked it. It was a nice familiar touch. And I wonder what his connection to twins are? Obviously they're the subject of his previous book, but in this one Caelum's dad is a twin and the mention of the Birdsey twins.....just coincidence or more than that? May he's a twin or has twins.

Katheryn, I've been wondering too since it is so much a part of this story and all.

Marie, that was fast from #88 to in!

Yeah, not sure how that happened. When I checked the queue yesterday I saw #76, and seconds later I got the email. There were quite a few copies though. I can't start it until the weekend I guess, and I am loving my current book ("Why Evolution is True"). But I'm a coming. You all go ahead start discussing!

The spoiler trick is a good one if needed for real spoilers but I think general discussion is fair game.

BTW, I love that he mentioned the Lady Vols and the grande dame, Pat Summitt! ;) Pat Summitt is a beast with over 1000 career wins!! :bow2:

Marie, did you get the book yesterday?

I'm scooting right along....on pg 407. I love Lamb's writing. I can't put it down once I start. His writing is so "real" just like he's actually been there, done that, kwim? He must really do some extensive research on these psych subjects to make them seem so true and accurate. I am so much more informed about schizophrenia and now PTSD AND interested in them after reading these books.

I agree although sometimes I do find myself wishing he didn't include so much extraneous stuff. I'm on pg. 401. It's really a quick read!

    Katheryn Well-Known Member

Yes, sometimes the "extra" stuff is too long. I'm just past the part where he's reading all those news articles about Mary Dank and the journals kept by Lydia. I kept wondering "where is he going with all this, why do we have to read all this?" I knew it would lead to some connection and of course it did! It was still a bit too long though.

I still don't have it! I have been soooo busy. And now with the snow, the library is closed. I have to get it tomorrow though or my hold will expire.

So tomorrow it is. Or I'm buying it.

Ugh! Reading Janis' paper on Lizzy Popper is killing me  . It's way too long and getting me out of the focus of the main story. I hope there's some connection to the paper and the current situation of Caelum and Maureen. So far I don't see it (I'm on page 588).

I'm glad it just wasn't me. I'm really liking the book EXCEPT for the those long parts that we're talking about.

Hooray, Marie! So glad you've started :good:

I'm finished, too. Kim, what'd you think of it? I liked it, but not as much as "I Know This Much is True." For me THIFB was very good in the first 2/3rd's then got less interesting. I would have preferred more about Mo in the prison, more about her struggles to overcome PTSD, and less about all of that family history. Parts of it were interesting, but it just went on too long; it definitely could've been shortened. I'm not crazy about the ending to be sure. I felt pretty certain
Mo would get out of prison and commit suicide cuz she just wouldn't have gotten over Columbine and killing that boy. But to die of an aneurysm? Kind of lame. I felt cheated of a more dramatic ending!

Another recurring theme I noticed, besides the twins thing was that in this book as in TMIKIT is many of the father's in his stories are mostly absent from their kids lives. Caelum's dad being an alcoholic, absent, then dying early; Lizzy's son William fathering that little girl then dropping her off with his mom then galavanting to Europe without a blink of the eye. Even Mo's dad wasn't "there" for her. :nea:

I agree with your review, Katheryn. I liked it until about the last third and then he sort of lost me. And the whole aneurysm thing was just completely lame, as you said. I did like how he mentioned the Birdsey twins throughout and Dr. Patel. It was the familiar in an unfamiliar book. Kind of cool. I definitely did not like it as much as the other two books I'd read of his. I do like his character development. Sometimes you feel as if you are really in their heads!

How are you liking it, Marie? The way you say it's "so long" makes it sound like you're not liking it too much. My mom's reading mine now and she really likes it. She's almost finished.

I'm past the halfway point. It's just taking me forever. I'm not engrossed by it, not sure why, the story is good, I just think ... too long...
