I am joining this topic way late in the game, but I just want to say that I  David C so much! I really think he will be the next Daughtry. As far as him doing the type of music he wants, they let Carrie Underwood sing country, so maybe they would let him do rock if he wins.

The other thing I notice about Mariah is how she is sorta a "conductor" for herself. Pointing her way through the notes almost. If any of the Idols did that they'd get their heads chewed off by Simon!

I bugged the HECK out of me! I couldn't even watch her... just fast forwarded all the way through. :D

Okay. Im jumping in late in the game here, but...

Mariah is getting too old and she is not good anymore... her old stuff was good, but her new stuff sucks! She is not a timeless artist, she needs to evolve or quit!

I am so glad that Kristy Lee went home... even though she was improving, she doesnt have what it takes, IMO. I did like how she sang to Simon though.

I am tired of Syesha and David A. They sound the same every week and even though they are good, they are BORING!

Carlie is good, but forgettable. I dont think she will win.

Jason, Brooke and David C are all original, even though Brooke needs to toughen up and quit crying about everything, I like her. Jason is cute and has a good spin on the whole Idol thing, IMO, but he needs to pick it up a little too. Overall I think David C. has the best overall talent and what it takes to win.

Well, thanks for letting me get all that out!

Yeah- last season someone sat down like David did (I am almost positive) because when he did it, I automatically tried to think who else did that--was it Jordan Sparks??

I believe it was Malinda. They seem to always pick one of the "favorites" and try to make them choose sides. I say yeah to them all for sitting down. Some say it's copycat - I say tradition!

OK, my OCD is kicking in, big time. I am not going to be home tonight to watch AI (I'll be in the presence of the Golden God, Robert Plant instead! With Alison Krauss. :D ) so I've set the DVR and checked and re-checked it. DH would make sure it records for me but he's at the boys' track meet. Crossing fingers it works!!!

Hope it works for you Kim. I'll be sitting here, sipping my tangerine tea, probably munching on some BBQ rice bites and watching me some AI.

Mark said he saw a web site that listed what everyone is singing tonight. I know one person is singing Memory, two are singing songs from Phantom, someone is singing the Oscar-winning song from the movie version of Evita and someone is singing Jesus Christ Superstar. Let me know if you want more details...

first to sing was Syesha and I have to say she
    amazed me
Is this her thing? I say
    YES

    Next was Jason. He was
not horrible but also not great
    . This music was
    out of
    his ellement.

    Brook was
    not good
    tonight. She looked beautiful.

David A kept his eyes open but you could tell he had to think about it. He
    was not
    the best performer tonight.

Carly rocked and she had fun. This was a
    typical performance by her though

David Cook is my favorite performer. My hopes were not set high for his performance tonight. He
    surprised
    me.

So to me bottom 3 are (in this order)

    Jason - Brook - David A
    (because they were not memorable)

and the top 3 for the night were (in this order)

    Syesha - David C - Carly
(because they were memorable out of their element)

Suprising night. I really hoped David A would blow us out of the water. He can. But only did fine tonight. Nothing to download...
I guess the other good one was David C.
They all could have done so much better with such incredible songs!
I guess Brooke or Jason is going home? (I hope?)
Feel free to black out the names if you want to, I don't know how to!

I agree- David was AMAZING!!! I hope Jason gets to stick around. I think he did good tonight! They are my two favorite. I used to love Brooke but not as much anymore. Those would be my favorite three though.

I enjoyed David Cook, Carly and Syesha. I thought those 3 did great.

I have to say that I thought Brooke was alright, her little stumble at the beginning (which she did 1 other time this year but when she was playing the piano) threw her off. I think she should have kept going and not stopped. No matter how great people think that David A does I cannot stand him. I did not like Jason Castro. He just seemed uncomfortable the whole time he was singing.

Okay, missed the first three. Didn't care for David A's version of his song. Carly was good. David C was AWESOME. (Phantom is my favorite ALW show!)

I can't believe that there are actually people that don't know that Memory is sung by a Cat???!!!! That comment made me think of Kellie Pickler!

  21. seamusnicholas

    seamusnicholas Well-Known Member

I am no Kellie Pickler and I did not know it was sung by a Cat!

I have seen MANY plays but did not know that song was from Cats. Here are the lyrics and nothing about it shouts out that a Cat sings it!

    Daylight
See the dew on the sunflower
And a rose that is fading
    Roses whither away
    Like the sunflower
I yearn to turn my face to the dawn
    I am waiting for the day . . .

    Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
    She is smiling alone
    In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan

    Memory
    All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
    I was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
    Let the memory live again

    Every streetlamp
Seems to beat a fatalistic warning
    Someone mutters
    And the streetlamp gutters
And soon it will be morning

    Daylight
I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
    And I musn't give in
    When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin

Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale cold smell of morning
The streetlamp dies, another night is over
    Another day is dawning

    Touch me
It's so easy to leave me
    All alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun
    If you touch me
    You'll understand what happiness is

    Look
    A new day has begun

It was originally sung by a cat in the musical "Cats" but also sung by Babs , and I am sure covered by Barry and others of his genre type. ;)

I agree with Chrissy. David C, Carly and Syesha were the best. Definitely. I voted for David C AGAIN this week. :icon_biggrin:

OK!!! So, my votes have been cast in the RIGHT places!!!

I didn't like David A's set up, I don't like messing with musicals like that - but I DID like him better with his eyes open! HMMM!!! So, didn't hate him, but wasn't my favorite either. He'll be around another week!

Syesha - I thought she did great!!

Brooke- worried for her. Starting and stopping AGAIN! She may not have forgotten the lyrics last time, but I think she's a goner!

Jason - it was too contrived for me. Bottom 3 - sticking around another week

Carly!! HOT D@MN!!! I thought she was RIGHT up her own alley and rocked it!!!

David C!!! I LOVE PHANTOM and I would go SEE HIM as PHANTOM!! He really can freakin' just plain SING! That was awesome!! I can't believe that Simon couldn't say something more positive! No, we aren't voting for him to become a Broadway star, but he really put that down and sounded smooth and fan-freakin-tastic!!!

A person who wants to sing professionally and is sent to meet the legendary Broadway great Andrew Lloyd Webber at least needs to research what his major musicals are and at that point should find out he was responsible for Cats - the longest-running show in Broadway history (not sure if it still holds that honor or not, but it once did). And then if you find that song, you do a little more research and find out it's performed by a cat. It seems like I've seen David C and Syesha talk this season about researching songs on the Internet first; Jason just doesn't strike me as someone who works hard at all at his craft (although I guess he did find the strange version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow a few weeks back).

Anyway, I pretty much agree with the reviews before this, especially Cheryl's which I pretty much agree with from top to bottom. I really don't think there were any amazing performances although I seem to recall three years ago when they did Broadway that I was pretty disappointed with the show and have to admit this year the Broadway was better (and this is coming from someone who loves Broadway).

I know my wife won't want to hear/read it, but I think it's time for Brooke to leave. And I hope Jason follows the next week.

Yes! There's making it LOOK easy and TAKING it easy. He's just a bit TOO laid back IMO! Thanks for helping me put my finger on it! I've been thinking it for weeks!!!

Also, I think you are right. I think Brooke this week and either Syesha OR Jason next week.

I LOVED David C tonight!!! Of course, I love him every week, but I was so hoping he would do that song. My all-time favorite ALW song! I've been wanting to hear him sing with that softer touch since the beginning. He did NOT disappoint!! :D

I do agree with Craig, Jason should have done a bit of research. I'm not a fan of his anyway. He could go home anytime. I think it's Brook's week to go, though.

I'm actually getting tired of listening to Carley. She seems so screechy tonight to me...

And as usual... Love Simon!

I have to agree. You have a once in a lifetime opportunity chance to meet a HUGE producer and you have no clue about his work. I would at least of google the song and found out what musical it was from. I mean the title "Cats" could have given a little glimmer into it. Plus I think knowing what you are singing about (background of the story) would have given him a little more insight to give the song more emotion.

I wish Brooke would have stood up instead of just sitting through her performance. She just seemed scared.
