So tonight they definitely said to tune in tomorrow to see who goes so maybe that is why they did 3 nights this year so they won't feel soo bad about eliminating someone?

Ok, I know this is going to sound heartless but please hear me out and try to read where I am coming from here because it is not meant in a bad way. One of the girls at my house tonight made an interesting point about the malaria nets. Obviously they are very helpful but for all the people that are saved because of the nets, doesn't that just add more people to the other issues they have? This is not meant to sound judgemental but if food and water etc etc are an issue with the mortality rate where it is today, what happens when the survival rate increases? Do these people just become victims of something besides malaria? Again, not trying to be heartless just honestly wondering. It doesn't seem to me that malaria nets are the end all be all cure that I am being made to believe by watching the clips on them. Maybe malaria nets in conjunction to other necessities of life????????

Edited because it is mortality nor morality!

My reply to the girl who brought this up would be maybe the person who is saved from malaria might be the one who comes up with solutions for that African country for food shortages or for poverty or for some other amazing invention or social change. Everyone deserves a chance for a healthy, happy life and the poor and sickly children of Africa who have such a short lifespan because of horrible diseases like AIDS and Malaria, not to mention general poverty and political unrest in many African countries, deserve our attention, respect and care. There are a lot of ways to address the situation and a question like that gives you a good opportunity to try to educate the person who brought it up.

I wish Heart would have sang without Fergie. I am not a huge fan of hers. I think she has a good voice but felt she was kinda showboating it up and taking the light away from the real Heart.

I was not as moved this year for some reason... I think I am becoming heartless!!!! I am going to donate but I am going to look for a company to buy nets direct from for Milaria. It sickens me what our government blows money on when this money could be going to save lives.....

    Ditto and ditto.

I didn't think overall the show was as good this year either. But Simon looked oh so fine!

Miley and Billy Ray in Kentucky, I cannot believe those conditions that those familes live in.... right in our backyards.

    QUOTE(seamusnicholas @ Apr 9 2008, 10:20 PM)
The family in Kentucky brought me to tears. When I saw the books delivered, and then saw the little girl looking at the pictures, I got so sad. I cant imagine how happy they were to get those books. I looked around me and saw the mass amount of books my boys have laying all over the floor. I guess I really do take what we have for granted.
Their stories were but one of thousands down around these parts, in the hills of Kentucky and the mountains here in Tennessee and elsewhere. This is why Dolly Parton's Imagination Library providing free books to kids has been so well received and so dear to her heart. She knows firsthand how poor these families are and has never forgotten where she came from and her roots. I love that about her. It's also a huge part of why she started Dollywood, to bring jobs to the area. Anyway, I know there are many poor people all over the world, but I'm glad to see some focus placed upon the poor here as well.

Agreed but are the nets the best form of action, is that honestly the aspect that deserves our attention the most is what was being questioned and honestly I don't have an answer for that. AI certainly wants us to think so though!

I think the nets are a darn good start. They are also something you can see instead of just donating money you are buying a product that the people can use. Not all parts of Africa are starving and not all parts of Africa are suffering from AIDS. It is just like all of America does not have the issues like they showed on the clips last night. So who knows maybe that part of Africa that is receiving the nets has the hunger part straightened out, and even if they have AIDS it is livable with the right medication. Nobody deserves to sit in a hospital foaming from the mouth from 1 bug bite.

I thought last night was just "okay" over all. I was disappointed in Michael Johns. I thought he sounded terrible. I LOVE that song, so perhaps not hearing Aerosmith do it was part of my problem, but my dh thought he sounded bad, too. Carly was okay, definitely not up to par with prior performances. Brooke, too, wasn't as good as she could be. I'm afraid for her tonight  . David A. was good. David C.... , nah, didn't like the song, couldn't understand half of it, but he's a good performer. The best over all performers in my opinion were: Jason, Syesha, and Kristy.

LOL, Katheryn, simmer down! I think it's funny that *I* didn't think Michael Johns did terrible with Dream On. I actually thought he did it fairly well. I normally hate when anyone messes with that song. It's like sacrilege to me! That is my favorite song of all time. But he didn't suck, lol, which is high praise on that song from me. He was nowhere near Steven, but he did a respectable job of it. I listened again on youtube and he did fine.

As far as David Cook, I love that song by Our Lady Peace but somehow it did not suit him at all. It just didn't showcase his talent at all. He's still my overall favorite, though.

I wonder who will go. I hope it's Syesha but I'm worried for Brooke and Carly as well. And I really hope it is not Jason. Or Michael.

    Who's going home tonight?

Now on the subject of Idol Gives Back - I think it's a wonderful cause. Someone brought up the children in Kentucky. Well I was watching a program on TV several years ago and it showed impoverished children and families from Kentucky, West Virginia, California and place after place in the U. S. I was horrified that this went on in our own "wealthy" country. It showed the mining areas - the squalid conditions. As I watched the show - I found it was called "Feed the Children". I read about the organization and found that the monies donated went primarily for purchasing food and necessary items for the children and very little went to administrative costs. They also have a worldwide relief effort, but while vacationing in areas of the southeast my husband and I have encountered 18 wheelers from this organization and even stopped in an area in West Virginia and saw them unload pallets and pallets of food and the families gathering appeared to be truly in need. That was enough for me. I began then making donations and have ever since. While I have no problem with giving to the needy and impoverished in other countries - I believe it is very alturistic,--- my mothers words ring in my ears "We need to clean up our own back yard". I applaud each of you for your efforts and donations to Idol Gives back. I have no doubt they are doing an phenomenal job ---- but if anyone is interested in "Cleaning up their own backyard", I urge you to look into Feed the Children - they do so much in the U. S. I never regret writing that check.

It's certainly a thought provoking question. I see where you are (she was) asking and probably a valid question. They only show us the part that we need to see in order to encourage us to give. It's sorta the survival of the fittest type argument. Food chain, almost.

I like Craig's response to the question and feel like if they are given a chance at life, they can grow stronger and who knows what great things can happen?!

I really do like the idea of cleaning up our own backyard as well. I came into the show really late and only saw it from 7:30 on. Carrie underwood was the first person I think I saw. (I had a hard time understanding all of her lyrics which is a little weird from her).

I didn't see the WHOLE Annie Lennox part, so SHE IS HIV Positive, right? (I'm assuming that's what her shirt meant). I guess I've been living comfortably under a rock by not knowing that.

I liked the whole group doing Seasons of Love around the piano.

WHY AM I THE ONLY PERSON THAT LIKES SYESHA? IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME? (Cook is my fave, but I like her!)

He keeps saying "results show" and that might not be an elimination. We'll see. I think it's RESULTS OF THE GIVING CAMPAIGN, NOT NECESSARILY SENDING SOMEONE HOME. I can't see it happening this year. It's a 'thing' now.....

They call it "results show" every week, don't they?

I don't really remember last year, but it seems that they surprised us by not sending someone home on Wednesday, and instead said they would do a special show the following night. Right?? Or am I up in the night? I guess we'll find out tonight. :D

My prediction is Carly, Syesha, and David C in the bottom 3. David will be safe right away (I hope, I love him, just didn't like his performance Tue...) I hate seeing anyone go at this point as they're all good in their own way, KWIM? But someone has to go.... I predict Syesha. :(

    So much to talk about.

I was not all that impressed with Tuesdays performances. I can say I think Kristy did the best overall but she does not get my vote because I think she should have been gone long ago and never had that chance Tuesday night to do well.

The bottom 3 tonight imo will be Syesha, Carly and Brooke. Hopefully it will be Syesha voted to go home out of these three.

It is getting harder and harder to pick bottom 3

I never heard of "Fergie" the singer. I really liked seeing and hearing "Heart" perform. It was great. I agree that Fergie seemed like she was showing off. She sang the song great but she seemed like she was trying to show off to Heart. If she was doing all that singing the song on her own I would not have these thoughts.

Am I the only person who does not think Miley Cyris is a great singer? Yes she is okay but not great.

My boss asked me to work an extra night tonight so I will not get to see the results live. AND the children all have a 1/2 day tomorrow and I have to work tomorrow night so I don't know when I'll actually get to see the show.

I am so GLAD DH got the DVR with FiOS the other day

Annie Lennox is not HIV Positive those are shirts you can buy to support a cause I believe.

I should probably google but does anyone know who all the people were in the 'band' when they were singing Before He Cheats? I saw Bob from the Bachelor (and of course the Desperates) which makes me think all the participants were 'someone' but I didn't recognize them all.

I don't think Miley sings well either!

with Band From TV, which also includes Denton, Hugh Laurie (House), Jesse Spencer (House), Bob Guiney (The Bachelor), Bonnie Somerville (Cashmere Mafia), and Greg Grunberg (Alias).

there is my answer, I don't watch all the shows but I figured they were all 'notables'

According to Zabasearch, Brooke, Syesha and Carly received the fewest votes - then it has a statement - that no one will be sent home this week.

  15. Chrissy Nelson

Typically they add the votes from this week to next week to vote people out. So I bet it will be the same old song and dance this week. Which I think will be BS just to get people to watch 3 nights in a row.

I do think it will be a shocker this week with Michael Johns leaving earlier than he should.

Well, if they do like last year, no one is going home tonight, but they will count this weeks votes with next week. I missed the first hour of Idol gives back, so I missed when they were in Goshen California. That is SO CLOSE to me.

Anyway, I think Syesha needs to go home, she is boring!! Anyway, just my 2 cents! :D

I thought some of the comedic performances last night were pretty funny. Robin Williams was hysterical (I liked his Lenin/Stalin jokes), Billy Crystal and Miley Cyrus were pretty good together (she's actually very talented and comfortable on stage although I'm not sure she's the best singer) and I thought Jimmy Kimmel had some good digs at Simon too.

I agree, I wanted Syesha to go because I thought Kristy did pretty well on Tuesday (love that song by Martina McBride!), and did you notice that Michael seemed to sing Dream On BETTER tonight than he did on Tuesday? My Dh commented right away that he wished Michael had sang it that well on Tuesday. An did you see how shocked everyone else looked? Jason Castro looked like he was going to throw up. :bad:

    I just watched the show.

Thankfully I was able to get off work after 2nd break and came home looking forward to seeing the show.

Although I did not think Michael sang that well Tuesday night I do not agree with America that it was his time to go. He should have made it to the top 5 and maybe even the top 3.

I am sad for him but I do think he will do well even without winning.

We must have listened to two different guys. Lou didn't think he sounded bad either, especially last night. Believe me, I've heard that song done badly (anyone remember the girl, Jordis, on Rock Star INXS who attempted DO? :icon_eek: ). He was no Steven Tyler (and really, who could be? ;) ) but he did okay with it. I definitely don't think he deserved to go home over it. :( It should have been boring Syesha.

I thought they let him go in such a poor manner. Ryan made it seem like no one was going to go home and then -- bam! -- he dropped it. Everyone was stunned.
