I've never heard of Chris Cornell so I, too, thought David C. arranged Billy Jean himself. Oh well. He still sounded great.
Oh my gosh, I love, love, love Chris Cornell. He is one of my top all time vocalists ever. He is AMAZING. People who are not familiar with him are really missing out. He has a brother (Peter?) who sounds just like him also. He sings with a group too, but not as famous. (Black Market Radio? I think -- I think I have a song or two of theirs on my iPod also.)

Anyway, as I said, I think partly because of the Daughtry/Walk the Line thing, Ryan made it very clear that this was not David C's version of Billie Jean when he announced the song. If you people didn't Tivo everything, you might have heard that. ;) :p

BTW, Chrissy, the full length version of Billie Jean is awesome!! Thanks for the heads up. :D

I also d/l Jason (I'm a sucker for Spanish in any song, lol) and David A (now that I've heard that song a few times and the original, it's really grown on me -- Heart does a great version as well) and really like the full length versions of both their songs. I did not d/l Michael because I'm too much of a diehard Queen fan. I loved his rendition of WWRY/WATC but can't commit to it, lol.

What do you mean "you people" :blbl: . LOL. I LOVE :bow2: my DVR and wouldn't trade it for anything! I didn't "zip" past Ryan's annoucement of the song, btw, but I think someone in my family was talking when Ryan was talking cuz I remember I didn't quite "get" what he was saying before he said "Billie Jean."

I'll have to look up this Chris Cornell person.....I don't iPod or MP3 or anything so...... :pardon:

I have toddlers - TIVO is a MUST! Since you are past that stage, we don't expect you to understand! :blbl:

I could not agree more with you Kim! Chris is the most amazing vocalist and I have been a huge fan of his since Soundgarden. I miss that band. :( I do think that David's version was better though, so my hat is off to him! Thanks for the top on Peter.

I really do not know what to think about the whole "Dolly mentoring" thing. I guess we will see. :pardon:

Better than I expected with the Dolly songs. I did miss a couple of performances due to a sick little one. :(

For the record, I love Dolly Parton. I'm not a country music fan, but living where I do, it's hard not to know a lot about her and be exposed to her and she really is the most amazing and prolific song writer. She recorded one of her CDs right down the street from me at Southern Sound Studios a few years ago. Anyway, I was not expecting much from Dolly Parton week because it was hard to envision some of these contestants performing her songs. But I was pleasantly surprised!

I have to go back and watch a few performances too. (I do DVR my AI!) My mom called right in the middle of the show. I listened but wasn't really paying too much attention from David A on. From what I heard, I'm still loving my usuals: Brooke, David C, Jason, David A, and Michael. My least favorite was Ramiele followed closely by Syesha. I also wasn't a fan of Carly's tonight. She sang it well but I agreed with everything Simon said.

David C is really still my overall favorite though. :D

I am actually glad it turned out to be all Dolly songs. I am not a big country music fan, but I enjoyed most of the songs tonight. My favs of the night were Brook, David C., Jason, and Michael.

Although some of the others weren't awful, I probably wouldn't blink an eye if any of them went home, but IMO, it should be Ramiele.

Everytime I hear her songs like Smokey Mountain memories and My Coat of Many Colors I cry. They are so touching and they really hit home for me. She was very classy, as usual. :bow2:

David C was amazing, even with that song choice, which is not one of my favorites of Dollys. I loved David A and Michael. Kristy did well too. I was not crazy about Carly, Ramiele (she just is not stepping up!), Brooke (boring for her I thought) and Ouch- Syesha! That rendition of I Will Always Love You was so poorly arranged! I couldn't believe she was ok with it! So long and drawn out... even from the beginning. It never picked up for me and I thought she should have picked another song after that disaster.

I still think David C is the one to beat. He also would sell the most albums...she can just rearrange the crappy song that Idol makes him sing when he wins!

LOL, I realize I forgot Kristy Lee tonight. She IS forgettable. Although for her it was probably one of her better nights since it's more her genre.

OK, I watched the ones I sort of missed and wow, Micheal Johns!! That was terrific. I loved the bluesy quality to his voice. It's where he shines!! I think David C and Michael had the best performances of the night by far.

So nothing's changed, but my faves are still Brooke, David C, Jason, David A and Michael. Awesome!

Definitely not my favorite week of the season thus far, although to be honest, I think this is the toughest week since every singer has to sing such a short version of whatever song they choose. I guess Michael and David A. were the best for me this week with David C. and Carly after that and Brooke also in the top five. I'll put Jason, Kristy and Syesha in the middle and Ramiele (again) at the bottom.

Syesha should have just stayed with a basic version of I Will Always Love You. Nobody can do better than Whitney on the song and she sure didn't.

But all in all, the show was about as unmemorable as I figured a week of Dolly Parton songs would be.

I really enjoyed David C, David A, and Carly. I thought Michael did pretty good, as did Brooke and Jason. Syesha was not bad. I didn't care much for Kristy Lee, thought she'd do better with this genre, but for me, last week was her best. Don't think she's got what it takes to top last week. Not that I loved last week, she's just not that great of a singer. I think Ramiele should go home tomorrow.

Have any of you heard this? On the radio this morning they said David Cook had to be taken to the hospital immediately after the show last night for heart problems. They said he suffers from high blood pressure but it was exceptionally high last night and he was having heart palpitations. Something about he has been under a lot of stress this week because his brother is battling cancer and took a turn for the worse. I'm getting ready to see if I can find out anything on the internet.

As each week goes by David Cook is clearly pulling away from the others. He is my clear favorite now. And I love his new haircut!! He doesn't look weird anymore!

Ok, I finally found an article HERE.

Wow it even says he collasped once before a performance and said he couldn't go on....but did. Gosh, that's scary and I had no idea he had a brother who was battling cancer. I hope his brother will be ok.

  15. twin_trip_mommy

    twin_trip_mommy Well-Known Member

oh goodness that is scary. I pray that he and his brother are okay.

Now to the show. I really liked Michael last night. I think he was the best with David a closs 2nd. Now I can see why he was not his usual self with this BP problem.

I think the bottom 3 tonight will be Carly, Syesha, and Ramiele.

I have to agree with Simon that Carly needs to choose some better outfits. She is not making herself look like a "star". I don't think it has anything to do with her body art but the tops she is choosing are not flatering. They may show off her art but don't do much else.

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I am at the point now (actually have been) where I cry right along with whomever goes home. It breaks my heart even though I may agree with the choice.

Can I say that I love, love, love Simon?

He does have a point about Carly and her clothes, though. She looks dowdy and she is so pretty. They need to glam her up a bit, not over the top, but just not so frumpy looking. She lacks style which is such a shame because she is beautiful and has a terrific voice. But she needs the whole package.

Agreed! And my WOW was for Simon because he was superb tonight! Every comment, every side remark, every reason was right on the money... and I love it when he sticks it to that putz Ryan! Go Simon!

So sad, but pretty much expected for Ramiele. Everyone I know who watches picked her to go tonight. She has such a good voice, but the songs she's been picking since she's made it to the top 12 have not been to her benefit, obviously. Oh well.

I think it was right for Ramiele to go home but I hope it is Kristy's turn next week before Syesha or Jason.

I watched the performances again and David did look ill. He had much better color tonight and Ryan was nice to not put the usual suspense on him.

Now I can't believe this. My sister finally came back from her home in Texas and we were able to talk about the show. I found out that she was one of those people that liked Chikeze! She said she voted for him every time. She also does not like David Cook! She has some strange taste in singers.

We are in agreement about Carlys clothing. Her thoughts on her outfits was that she seemed to be dressing like she was going out clubbing. I think that was a good discription.

People with "strange" tastes are what makes the world go 'round. Chikeze and David are two totally different kinds of singers and I believe it is quite natural that if you enjoy one you might not enjoy the other.

I was thinking the same about Ryan and David in terms of the suspense!

I said that to DH as well. They were probably under strict orders from the doctors not to raise his BP!!

BTW, David C's new haircut is a major improvement.

I also enjoyed Chikezie. I thought he should have stuck around longer and some of the girls like Kristy Lee, Ramiele, and Syesha, should have gone first.

I was very pleased. I was SAD FOR HER, but now she can go sit with her BFF in the audience. Kristy is skating by on the 13-15 male vote. They are HOT for her and that's what's up. SHE KNOWS she's on borrowed time.

Will they have a mentor since it is Idol's give back week? Didn't they not even vote anyone off that week last year? I think I am remembering that they took two weeks of total votes added together and then elimnated someone (maybe two?) the next week but not on Idol gives back week. Does anyone else remember? Last year I believe it was songs of compassion or something to coincide with Idol Gives Back. Check your local listings, I think the show begins earlier than normal next week!

I just checked my TV listings for EST

    AI Tuesday 4/8 8:00p-9:00p

    AI Wednesday 4/9 7:30p-10:00p

This is going to tatally mess up my recordings.

DH watches the show and thankfully I can record it while he watches on the livingroom TV. This leaves the bedroom TV for me to record Criminal minds at 9:00p and CSI NY at 10:00p. I don't know if he is going to want to watch AI for 2 1/2 hours

My DVR is scheduled to record an Idol on Thursday as well... description claims its the elimination show. So, check your schedules and make sure your stuff is gonna catch that episode as well.

This week was interesting. Someone needs to slap some since into Kristy... I really thought she'd shine, but the girl just doesn't know how to pick songs. I liked everyone else, except Rameilie and shyesha. I wasnt surprised to see Remalia leave.. (I can't spell her name, I think i spell it different every single time I type it), but I was surprised to see Brook in the bottom three. I really liked her Joleen.

Dolly Parton is adorable... but a bit scary too. Gravity and Jesus.. thats just funny.

Anyway.. haven't had time to come and post lately, but saw that episode scheduled on thursday and wanted to come shout it out to you guys so that you didn't miss it. It tears me up when I miss an episode!!

    Thursday also!?!

This is silly. I love the show and all but to have it on 3 nights in a row and one of them being 2 and 1/2 hours long is way to much.

But, if my DVR records them all I will most likely watch them all at some point.

Wednesday's show, Idol Gives Back, is really more of a special than part of the show. There will be all sorts of celebrity appearances and pleas for fundraising. It's more of a telethon type thing than an actual Idol episode. I remember crying my eyes out at last year's show as they profiled some of those sweet children and showed Simon with them. It was heartwrenching.

I already started to cry when they showed the little girl trying to find her sister!! Did you see Brooke after that? She too was crying.
