Did tonight's show have the surprise that Ryan Seacrest hinted at during the opening? I'll leave it at that since I know we have some who haven't seen the show yet.

Next week (Wednesday and Thursday - President Obama gets center-stage on Tuesday night) is 50 years of Motown so that's something I'll look forward to.

And I need to find out from the country fans here what they thought of the Brad Paisley song and the Carrie Underwood/Randy Travis duet (which was kind of just a Carrie Underwood song backed up by a very underused Travis).

I think the surprise was who was voted off. Supposedly Ryan is the only one on the show that knows who got the least votes.

Gosh, I really hate country music! :bad: (Well, except for a few classics like Johnny Cash and for some odd reason, Clint Black, whom I love.)

I adored Jeff Buckley's voice and did not realize that Adam's version of Ring of Fire was originally Jeff's. Isn't that what Randy said? I need to look it up! I also need to look up Dilana's version of the song (from Rockstar Supernova) and see if it was the same. I remember she totally rocked it too.

Well here is Dilana's version: Dilana Ring of Fire

 I really liked the person voted off!!! :( I'm surprised!!!!

I don't think Carrie Underwood can do ANY wrong!! I loved how Randy Travis smiled that big smile every time she hit those high notes!! I am not a country fan, but LOVE CARRIE!! She's a superstar and deserves to be!!!

Michael's comment about his DD saying "why don't you want to be with me anymore" was SO SAD!!! Mine never said anything like that about their Daddy being gone, but they do talk about missing him. Different though....

Thanks for that! I had forgotten about that but was thinking that Adam should be a contestant on ROCK STAR (if they ever did it again!!!)
I"m sad for Alexis!! She's not the weakest! I wonder if it hurt her that Brooke did it last year and might have played the piano with it. TERRIBLE song choice!

That was an interesting version. I did a search on Adams and found this Full version of him singing. I really liked it and even better than when he did his shorter version on the show. I thought it was better and more unique than Dilana's cover

Argh! I'm SO upset!!! I loved Alexis and really hoped she'd go all the way to the end  . Why wouldn't they save her??? Why?? I wish she didn't sing that song. I think she did a very good job of it, but didn't she remember that the judges didn't like it last year when Brooke sang it?

I thought Adam was amazing last night and Megan was awful. I can't believe the judges "loved" her performance...even Simon? Huh? I wish she or Allison went home tonight.

Do you really think she was better than the other 10? Do you think she should have won?

When I heard before the commercial that they may use the save for one of the two that were standing there I thought "Why?" There is no way either of them could win the whole thing. One sang better that night than other nights and the other had done better on other shows but neither could win the whole thing even if saved for one more week.

That was my thought last night too. Neither of them have any chance of winning this competition. I think they'll save it for one of their favs when the time comes.

That's what I think, too.

I did feel bad for her having to sing it again and then to still get the no. Chrissy, you are right, it does seem kind of cruel.

I like that they are doing Motown next week!!

I really liked Brad Paisley's song. And Carrie sounded so good.

I SO wanted them to save her last night. Only because they wouldn't be able to save Adam if he gets voted off. LOL I am so mean..I just do not like him for some reason. Oh well..I hope he does better next week, and I can like him again. I think it was just the song...I just gotta get over the song. LOL :p

I also knew they would not use that save last night for either of them. Neither was strong enough to go all the way although I really liked her too. But there are several others the judges love which I think they are holding onto that save, just in case.

BTW, I love Megan Joy and am glad she made it into the top 10 but she is not mainstream enough to win this whole thing. She is unique! I love the quirky runs and notes she hits. Very jazzy.

By the way, I bet you A makes the Idol tour. They need another female to counter the number of guys and Scott will be the resident piano player on that tour anyway (like he was during the group number last night).

The problem with both A's is that hard rocker chicks never do well on this show. The tweenagers vote for the guys for the most part and Grandmas don't vote for the hard rocker chicks either. You have to be a ballad singer or an R&B singer to make it if you're a female. The other A remaining is going to have to sing a ballad sooner or later if she wants to stick around.

Motown should be good for several including Lil and Matt. Adam needs to rock out some Smokey Robinson (Tears of a Clown I hope).

I like Alexis too, but wasn't surprised that she didn't get the SAVE. They have ONE per season and it's going to be a MIRACLE if they actually USE IT!
I'm telling you that Country has a huge following, because Michael shouldn't probably still be there out of those 3!

Motown will be great! I wonder who the "mentor" will be?

I read it is Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy. While they are legends, they are long-in-the-tooth legends as Robinson just turned 69 and Gordy will turn 80 later this year. Might make an interesting meeting when some of the younger contestants (of course they're all young when standing next to a 69-year-old and a 79-year-old) sing in front of them.

There are some great (both obvious and not so obvious) choices in front of them. Lil could hammer out a Gladys Knights and the Pips standard, I'd like to see a couple try the Commodores, and how about someone trying a modern version of Mercy, Mercy Me by Marvin Gaye. And considering you could also pick The Temptations, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Mary Wells, The Four Tops, even the Jackson Five (although nobody should go back to those after singing Michael Jackson two weeks ago), there is a huge variety of songs available.

I was reading online how alot of people thought Carrie Underwood and Randys performance was a little creepy. The way he kept smiling at her. LOL...

I didn't care too much for Carrie's and Randy's performance. I don't like country music anyway so I'm biased there, but yes, his smiling was a bit "creepy", her singing was too high and screechy at times and Randy didn't really sing that much anyway. It was mostly Carrie.

No, Alexis probably would not have won the show, but I liked her way more than any of the females that are left. I don't care to hear any of the remaining girls sing. It's all about the guys now.

creepy? I did not get that feeling. I saw it as "impressed" when he looked at her and possibly even that he was proud of her.

I think Carrie was sick and my heart broke for her when she tried to get some of those notes out. I thought the way Randy was looking at her was to encourage her because it was obvious to me she was struggling. I think I said out loud, oh she is trying soo hard about 5 times during the song.

So what do you guys think of the "twist" I think it is a little more brutal.

It was WAY brutal. It is bad enough they make them sing when they get booted off but to have them sing with the hope of getting the votes turnaround is just CRUEL.

And IMO, there was no way they were going to keep her. I think they just said that for the drama!

did you guys think that the group performance at the beginning was Lip Synched? It did not seem live. I didn't think they did that stufF? The Ford commerical was also incredibly cheesy.

Adam has amazing vocal ability. My problem with him is that he is way too cocky. He strikes me as abnoxious and I don't feel like he appreciates the opportunity he has been given. I think he'd be an amazing stage performer but I don't see him as the "idol" He just rubs me the wrong way and he irritates me. I think my biggest issue with him was his "remake" of the stones. I'm a HUGE Rolling Stones fan and I did not like what he did.

I absolutely agreed with Simon's comment to Scott. I think it would be amazing to see him do a song by a piano playing great (like Elton John or Billy Joel). I'd prefer to see Matt do one of those artists because I think he is superior on the piano but I agree that Scott should "kick it up a notch"

I was surprised by Alexis' exit. I'm very much the cynic.... always wondering if the person voted off is not by 100% of the votes on AI. If it's close and a person better suits their tour needs, makes a better recording artist....who would ever know if the show's producers said one was going home over the other?? It's not like the IRS follows the numbers. I just thought the show's producers would prefer to have more than 3 girls on tour. So to your point....maybe they will bring along Alexis for the tour. But then again when I think about the AI concerts that I've been to...it is overwhelmingly a female audience....of all ages. So for touring purposes they are probably OK with the results of 7 guys for ticket sales. Oh the things that go through my head.... ;)

Last night's group performance really looked lip synched. I think some are and some aren't. Who knows why?...maybe they were having trouble in rehersals getting it to go over well....live.

I would not be surprised if they were. They are not professional singers and I would imagine they do not get all that much time to practice the movements and words let alone the singing in sync

Do you think they should change the songs style to be their own or keep it close to original?

I would like to hear them do the songs with the style close to the original but then again I don't think the last 3 could change their style to this type of music. Even with that said I would like to see what the first 7 could do with a Motown song with their personal touch.

As you can tell I think this will be Scotts week to leave.
