I have a 3 yo twins, but a 9 mo old singleton. My doctor said no dairy until age 1, but that yo baby yogurt was ok. However, my friend said her doctor said they should not have yo baby. Did you give yours yogurt? It's so confusing how doctors all say something different.

    Thanks,
    Amy

We got the ok to have Yo Baby yogurt at 6 months. Only that brand, though, until they were a year old.

My doc said to give her what I eat - at 9 mos we started - which is Dannon light n fit. The adult yogurt (he says) has less sugar than yo baby. Compare the labels to see what's in each. I personally think that yo baby is just a marketing ploy.

We were told at 6 months that we could start whole milk yogurt, yobaby is the only brand of whole milk yogurt around here. It does have alot of added sugar though, so I only give it a few times a week. It seems that pedi's cant agree on when to start dairy, but I think alot of them say no dairy until age 1 is b/c they don't want women giving whole milk vs. formula as the main source of nutrition. Here is a good article: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/tipYogurt.htm

I got the go ahead with my older DD for yogurt at 9 mo. One of my boys had a milk allergy so no dairy until one year and I waited for both boys just to make it easier. The reason they can have yogurt but no milk is because during the culturing process the milk proteins are broken down making them easier for little tummies to digest.

We were given the OK for yogurt at 8 or 9 months. I give them YoBaby. I have checked the labels and IMO I would rather them have a little extra sugar than a bunch of chemicals in the Dannon Light N Fit or whatever kind of light yogurt (they use artificial sweeteners in those) and they also NEED the fat.

My Ped said any brand is fine as long as it is the full fat kind. I have also used Dannon La Creme once when we were on vacation and the store we went to didn't have Yo Baby. The Yo Baby is also fortified with DHA (they use tuna oil) so you are getting those good fats to help with brain development. It is also organic, which I like.

Just my 2 cents. My girls were EBF until 6 months and still BF+solids. They never had a problem with the dairy. Just stinky poop!

The Yobaby has too much sugar for me so I just buy regular whole milk organic yogurt. It doesn't have any added sugar or chemicals. We started yogurt at 11 months due to a milk protein intolerance when my girls were younger but I know a lot of people start around 9 months or even earlier.

I've been giving mine yogurt for about 2 weeks now. Whatever brand I've been eating. Told my pedi today at their 9 month appt. and she said that was fine.

At 7 or 8 mo I started yogurt. I just buy the big tub of whole milk plain yogurt and add in my own fruit. It say if you have never had a dairy alergy in your family you are probably safe.

I started yogurt with older ds around 7 - 8 months (can't remember for sure). I started with plain whole milk. He ate it just fine and I think if you start with plain you don't have to worry about sugar or sweeteners. You can always add some fruit to it. You may be surprised at how well they accept plain.
