The boys are 10 months old and getting them to eat table foods without hurling has been, let's see...challenging. Anything with texture beyond Stage 2 foods makes them gag and barf. I think I want to try yogurt and I got the Yo Baby stuff at the grocery store this AM. I know that you are supposed to hold off on milk until 12 months, so my question is, does this apply to yogurt also? This sounds like a stupid question to me, but I have to ask. Alot of you on here have great table food eaters, so I wanted to check. Do you feed it to them straight? Mix it with fruit, oatmeal? Any and all suggestion/comments are extremely helpful.

    Thanks! Jessica

I started yogurt around 8 months. Yogurt is different than milk because the proteins are broken down, making it easier to digest. I have fed it straight, with cereal, and also with fruit! My babies love it!

Here is an article about it!

Mine love the Yo Baby yogurt. I started with one at about 10 months and the other had a milk allergy so we did not "challenge" him with it until a year. So I would say if there is no history of allergies in the family then go for it.

We started yogurt around 10 months too. Our pedi suggested it after our 9 month appointment. The girls LOVE yobaby! We've given it to them straight, mixed with oatmeal, or mixed with fruit and oatmeal. I've only done the regular yogurt, but I noticed that they sell it mixed with cereal. Since you are having a texture issue make sure you just get the plain yogurt to start with. You could even gradually add oatmeal to it to increase the texture and maybe get your kiddos used to something a little more substantial. This is what I did with Meara (with yogurt and baby food) and it really helped her gagging! GL!

We started YoBaby around 10 mos. also, and they loved it so much they ate the whole container each in the first sitting. We probably shouldn't have let them do that since it was a new food, and they had a nice "colon cleansing" as a result, but they LOVE it! YoBaby is kinda pricy, so I've been buying Mountain High, or Horizon Organic Yogurt made with whole milk. We mix it with juice and oatmeal to help them eat the oatmeal (they don't seem to like it plain...must be jazzed up!). We have also started the transition to whole milk, and I think the yogurt beginning helped, because we've had NO trouble. I've gotten mixed messages about the 12 month thing...their pedi said don't bother til 12 months, whereas my daughter's thyroid doctor said it's okay to start them as soon as they're on solids! So I figure we're okay! My mom started me on milk at 5 mos, and I think I turned out okay! ;) Donovan is doing good with Stage 3, but Tiana, also is being a little resistive to textured things....Oh well, time will tell!

Started mine on yogurt around the 9 month mark after their check up. They love yobaby...I started with the banana and vanilla (yellow containers) then moved to the ones with fruits/cereal (pink and green ones). Great stuff...kinda pricey but they love it.

I don't mean to hijack this post, but what is YoBaby? Why not just give babies regular yogurt?

Its just whole milk yogurt. I buy it instead of a big tub of whole milk plain yogurt because the girls split 1/2 a container of the yobaby every day so the big tub of (cheaper) yogurt would go bad before I got a chance to use it all.

I started mine at 8 months. They are 9 1/2 months now and still love it. We are having a texture aversion thing going on too. Still on Stage 2 foods and only Stage 3 "My First Soups" from Earth's Best - No lumps in there! (Don't you just hate the gag/puke thing?? Ugh...Cleaning the highchair is a nightmare after that!)

It's the pits. The worst part is that Will decides to try and eat cheerios, or whatever else is on the tray, AFTER eating all of his food and drinking an 8 oz bottle. He tried to do it again today, but I got it before he could eat it. I think I'll start trying to give them the Cheerios, puffs between meals. Probably should have been doing that all along, so I'll add it to my woulda, should, coulda list.

No joke about the pricey yogurt!! Cripes! It's up there with the formula!!! :D

Thank you everyone for the replies. I really appreciate it!!!

You can start yobaby anytime after 6 months. The American Academy of Pediatrics says babies six months and older can have yogurt because its properties are different than fluid milk due to the beneficial live active cultures(probiotics) which actually enhance babies digestive health. Make sure though you are feeding them something like yobaby cause it is made for babies. Alot of yogurts have lots of sugar and high fructose in them, so find one that is made for babies.
