    Hi ladies,

I would like to give my boys yogurt, but I don't know if they should have it at this age. What age did you give your LOs yogurt and what kind? Is there a special yogurt for babies or you used regular one? Did you give them low fat or normal one? I'm asking because I know that babies shouldn't have milk until 12 months.
    What about cheese?

    Thanks

I started giving both around 8 or 9 months. I used the YoBaby brand when they were young.

I used the Stonyfield organic whole-milk plain yogurt w/cream on top. I get it in the 32oz tub size and just add it to purees since the flavored ones have quite a bit of sugar in them. I started them on it at about 9 months. I didn't do and still don't do low or not fat ones. Yogurt is different than milk and its on the "approved" listing for babies under 12 months so you should be fine.

Thanks, I will look for it.
tinalb, since we are both in Canada, could you please tell me where did you get the YoBaby yogurt?

In Florida - both are found in our local grocery store's organic dairy section. good luck finding it in your area.

Babies can have any milk containing products (yogurt, cheese, etc) as long as they are on BM or a milk protein formula and tolerate it. The only reason babies can't have straight milk until 12 mo is because it has no iron in it and the babies can get anemic. I like plain yogurt and you can add your own fruit puree. The yobaby is basically fruit flavored yogurt without the sugar of your "adult" brands but is expensive. Shredded cheese is fine as soon as they are learning finger foods (~9 mo) After 8-9 mo, it is more of what they can tolerate consistency wise because they have usually been exposed to most types of foods and the current practice is that unless there is a strong family history of food allergies or the baby has had an allergy to something there is no reason to limit foods until a certain age. They used to think that starting things early can cause food allergies but they have found no evidence of this.

Mine started yogurt earlier, closer to 7 months. We use the full fat greek yogurt mixed with fruit purees.

yesterday I called the Pedi and asked her whether I can start giving my boys yogurt to mix it with fruits. Her reply was to buy plain baby yogurt from the market and mix it with fruit. regarding low fat yogurt I read many times that babies should be given full fat because fat found in dairy products is nutritive for them at this stage.

I've bought organic plain yogurt yesterday and today I gave the boys a little bit to see how they react. It is a little bit sour so I think I'll have to put some fruit or cereal in it for the moment.
    Thanks again for your suggestions.
