but i might as well ask here before i put in a phone call for something so simple LOL

if we should hold off on milk until 1 year old, and he said to hold off on cheese until then, too, why would yogurt be ok to feed to them? (he ok'd it and i thought nothing of it at the time)--DH is driving me nuts with this, he thinks they're gonna be poisoned if i give it to them LOL

    TIA

[SIZE=10pt]I've been wondering/thinking about yogurt too.

At our 9 month appt. our pedi said to hold off on yogurt until closer to a year ~ however said that small amounts of cheese were okay. I didn't think about it either <_<

I'll be curious to see what everyone else says. I know all pedi's are different as are parents. We don't have any allergies on either side of the family, so I'm not too worried about them having a reaction.

I would definitely check with your pedi about this. The proteins in yogurt and cheese are easier to digest than those in whole cows milk, which is why most younger babies can tolerate it. But if your kiddos have a suspected intolerance of cows milk at all, some pedis say to wait. Since our girls were on milk-based formula (as opposed to soy, etc), our pedi said we could start yogurt and cheese after our 9 month appointment. We started yogurt between 9 and 10 months, and cheese between 10 and 11 (just because I was really slow with introducing solids and table foods).

    GL!!!!

Wow, our doc. OKed yogurt at 7-8 months. We give small amounts of plain whole milk yogurt with a little bit of fruit mixed in. Or mix it with sweet potatoes. They love it!

They eat cubes of cheese now too.

But they've had formula since day 1 (we were a mix of EBM and formula for a long time), and they've always tolerated that well, so that's maybe why the doc. was OK with it.

Mine have had yogurt for a long time now with zero problems -- ped said it was fine around 7/8 months. They eat cheese now with no problems also -- they LOVE it, in fact. And, we've also started small amounts of cow's milk in a sippy, again with the ped's okay (although he did say to continue at least 20 oz. of formula until age 1). A lot of peds give the okay to switch to whole milk at 9 months, actually.

I guess different peds just have different takes on this....do you have any reason to suspect milk allergy or intolerance?

We have been giving the babies yobaby yogurt since 6 months and since price went up we are using whole milk plain yogurt 32 oz Stoneyfield or Dannon natural. mixed with cereal and fruit now. They LOVE it, they have had no problems with it either. If you choose to feed them yogurt make sure you use yogurt made for babies or plain whole milk natural yogurt. Stay away from yogurts made for kids or adults with flavor and sugar.

We started yogurt at 6 months as per our Ped and cheese not long after.

After 9 months we were told we could start milk.

The kids are loving it so much more than formula and their intake has increased greatly!

When we were in at 7 months, I asked out pedi about snacks between meals when the boys seem hungry. He suggested yogurt and/or small bits of American cheese. I said YOGURT?? I didn't know they could have that. He said it is not the same as regular cow's milk. My boys have been sharing one every day for practically the past 2 months. They love it!!! I think they would swim in the yogurt container if they could. We buy the organic Yo Baby yogurt.

Yogurt and cheese are fermented or have those "live cultures" that make them a lot easier to digest. Straight milk doesn't.

We started yo baby and cheese cubes (both of which they LOVE) right around 10 months. I'm not sure why it's ok to give them yogurt and cheese (and certain baby foods with milk in them, for that matter). But I know the boys haven't had any bad reactions to milk-based foods.
