I've been giving J&L Yo Baby since they turned 12 months because there were on the no dairy diet until then and, frankly, I wanted to make sure everything went smoothly. Here we are at 16 months and they still eat it, but I think L is getting less interested.

What do you do for Yogurt. I know many feel the store bought has too much sugar, but my attempt at making it myself didn't go well the first and only time I tried. Can you please share your favorite brands (for those under 2) or your homemade recipes?

Also, does whole milk yogurt make a difference to you if they aren't yet 2?

    Thanks so much.

I haven't done this yet, but I'm thinking of buying some plain yogurt and mixing it half and half with the regular fruit flavored yogurt. I'm going to try this for myself too, as I find the regular brands to be too sweet . . .

Initially I bought whole milk yogurt for Elliot and Clarissa, but pretty quickly moved on to the regular lowfat. I think they get plenty of fat elsewhere in their diet (still drinking whole milk and eat a ton of cheese) and the whole milk yogurt was really expensive and never went on sale . . .

We do drinkable yogurts now. I usually get the Stoneyfield brand (same people that make Yo-baby).

We buy big containers of organic full-fat plain yogurt and mix it with baby food or applesauce. (Baby food because it's easy and comes in lots of different flavors, not because there's anything particularly special about it.) I have also occasionally pureed frozen fruit to mix with it, but baby food is just so much easier. We also keep a few regular flavored yogurts in the fridge and will mix it half & half with the plain stuff.

I also don't think they really need the fat, but having tried both kinds myself, I know the full-fat kind tastes better! ;) The way I serve it to the girls, it tends to be too sour for my taste, but they seem to like it. It's Sarah's staple breakfast food.

I buy the big containers of whole milk plain yogurt and mix in the fruit myself. I've tried a few different brands and the absolute BEST is Stoneyfield Farms Organic whole milk plain yogurt. It doesn't have that acidic yogurt taste. It's a smooth creamy taste, and it doesn't have added sugars.

I was using Dannon Vanilla yogurt. Low fat. My girls drink whole milk and were on the growth chart growing well, so I wasn't concerned about fat content. only sugar content. I have recently switched to Stoneyfield organic whole milk french vanilla. it tastes so much better than the low fat dannon all natural.

I have also used the All natural dannon - the 4 pack cups that come in blueberry, peach, strawberry etc.

i havent checked the sugar content. maybe I should recheck it. but it seems that there's not but 1-2 grams difference of sugar per serving between the brands. I just want to make sure I'm giving artificial sugars.

I use whole milk plain yogurt, Dannon, etc. and mix in either a baby food fruit or Smucker's Simply Fruit jelly. We usually have a few different flavors of this jelly and there are NO artificial sugars!--we all eat yogurt this way!

Of course, lots of great responses and tips here ... thank you! I have been making my own yogurt drinkables with Yo Baby, split between them, juice and milk added and blended in by spoon. They love it. Today, I did it with Plain Whole Milk yogurt, pineapple juice and milk ... again, it was a hit. I think this is cheaper than the drinkables to buy. Drinking yogurt is a much easier process than spoon feeding it at this age so I'm happy that this is how they like to take it. I, too, am not interested in serving artificial sugars, which is another reason I haven't found another yogurt to buy. Those Dannon naturals have caught my eye ... maybe I'll try those next time. Thanks!!

Just curious - what do they drink their yogurt out of? Must be too thick for a sippy cup, but I'm afraid we'd have horrible messes if we just used regular cups.

I hadn't thought of doing drinkable yogurt . . . mine love yogurt, but I tend to avoid it again because of the mess (they want to feed it to themselves with no help from us!)

I am also curious as to how they drink the yogurt....mine love yogurt and I would like to give them some like this. I have bought the yogurt in the tubes and froze them and given to them like popsicles, but it was a huge mess. They like it, but they also had it all over them.

Also curious about the drinkables -- mine can't drink out of anything but a sippy cup at the moment! Sarah does a pretty good job with a spoon -- she makes a mess, but not as much as I imagine she'd make trying to drink out of a lid-less cup. Do they drink it with straws?

Sorry for my delayed response ... didn't mean to leave you hanging! I have those disposable First year cups with straws ... I use the small cups with the straw tops. They enjoy this immensely. No mess either!
