What kind do you give and what age? My son is 8 mos and was on two rounds of antibiotics in a row for an ear infection. The nurse practitioner I saw at the time recommended giving him a little bit of yogurt because of this. She said it was find for his age and recommended Yo Baby.

I sent my husband out last night to get some, since we've got one day left to go on the antibiotics and I haven't done it yet. He comes back with Yoplait for kids and said it was all they had. So I called the pediatrician's office this morning to see if this was ok. The nurse I spoke to said they consider yogurt to be a milk product, so they don't really recommend before a year. But if I wanted to give it, just do a little bit occasionally. She said as long as it's plain or has natural fruit, then the kind my husband got was ok.

I was a little discouraged, but figured I should give him some anyway because of the antibiotics. But then I noticed it was only strawberry flavored (it said naturally flavored though). But aren't strawberries bad at this age too? I know it's in a lot of the stage 2 baby food, and they have had that. But I'm still confused about the whole strawberry thing, especially in the yougurt now (it's not chunks or anything). I dished it out to give it to him, but I couldn't pull the trigger. I chickened out and put it back in the fridge.

Would this have been ok to give? (the yogurt AND the fact that it's strawberry flavored?)

Usually Yo Baby is recommended by Drs because it is a whole milk yogurt and it is organic and has no sweetners added. It also caters to babies to you only have fruits that are acceptable to serve for age appropriateness. They have banana, vanilla, peach, pear, etc. I would not give strawberry at a young age, but that is just me.

Yogurt is usually fine at less than a year because the lactose is broken down during the culturing making the milk proteins easier to digest than say whole milk.

When my girls got the ear infection around 7-8mo is when I started giving them yo baby yogurt. They split one every day they were on antibiotics.
I dont think I got the strawberry one until they were closer to a year, but I think you are not supposed to give them fresh or frozen strawberries. I believe the yogurt and pureed foods are fine. Maybe someone else can confirm?

We have used Yo Baby with no problems. We began feeding them this at 8.5 months. HTH :).

YoBaby at 9 months. That's the only yogurt they had until they turned 3.
They even have it with Cereal (which I admit... is delicious!) :spy:

I've given purees with strawberries, but I wouldn't be sure about the yogurt... it depends how it is processed. I think the main problem with the one you got is that it's not made from whole milk, so they really lose most of the benefits of it. I wouldn't give it and I'd probably just eat it myself.

I started yogurt at 7 months... Yogurt is processed and the milk is broken down so it's easier to digest. The thing about yobaby is that it's organic, has real sugar and not artificial sweeteners like 99% of the yogurts out there, it's whole milk, and the fruit ones have less sugar than other yogurts. You don't need to feed yobaby though, a big container of whole milk plain yogurt mixed with fruit purees is just as good, and cheaper. I still stick to organic and buy the stonyfield farm brand though (same brand as yobaby). Dh gave the babies the vanilla kind once by mistake and they loved it too, but I'm not doing that again, lol.

On a side note, Yobaby DOES have a strawberry/banana flavor.

Yobaby is a good brand, but any organic whole milk yogurt is good for babies. If your twins like yogurt, save yourself the money and buy a larger container of vanilla or plain whole milk organic yogurt and mix in your own fruits (or get a flavored version). The things you want to avoid are low or non fat yogurts, those with added sugars or sweeteners and anything fake.

ive been thinking about this as have been giving my boys fromage frais. but im thinking that there is too much artificial stuff and sugar in it. i think i will go with the plain yoghurt idea and mix in my own fruit.
there is clear advice on the wholesomebabyfood.com site about why its ok to give babies yog and cheese but not cow's milk. basically they say there that the main reason you are advised not to give cow's milk is in case you replace their formula or b/m with it.
