The boys have been on solids since 4 months. We are up to 2nd foods and have cereal w/fruit for breakfast, a fruit for lunch, and a veggie for dinner. I saw today at Target that Gerber now has yogurt blends for sitters and mac n cheese for 2nd foods.

Would it be okay for the boys to eat these yet? They each eat a jar at every feeding.

I would ask your Ped. We didnt introduce dairy until 9 months with my older DD. That is when our Ped said to go ahead and start yogurt. With the boys we held off until after a year, but they had a milk protein intolerance.

I would ask your pedi also... for breastfeeding moms, they recommended to not start solids until 6 mo. so I'm not sure the reasonings for starting earlier with formula feeding babies...

I know one reason thatI waited to start was that I believe their digestive systems aren't quite ready for all the new foods, etc when they are so young. I'd just ask your pedi what they think about it.

**I just read that yours are 6 mo. yogurt on www.wholesomebabyfood.com is recommended for 8 months and older.

I think my 2 were around 9 months for yogurt & cheese as well. It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor, he/she might give you the okay.

Thanks ladies, we will see him this week so I will ask.

We started them at 4 months (they are FF) because they were drinking 5 8oz bottles a day and would still want more after bottles! They have done so well on solids! They have 4 8oz bottles a day along with each of them eating 3 4oz jars of solids. So that's 44oz of food a day! Spencer is still only in the 10% of weight, but Reece started out in the 15% and is now in the 50%!!

wow those babies love to eat!! I didn't start mine on solids until later, and soon after started dairy, but it was probably closer to 8 or 9 months. at least you've got good timing to ask your pedi this week.

My girls are breastfed and our pedi recommended we start solids at 4 months and it went really well. They were in the 13th percentile when we started solids and now are in the 30th. I have no intention of doing cheese until the girls are a year because I think cheese has very little nutritional value. We were given the go ahead to start yogurt at 7 months which we will do. Since I am not doing meat, I want to give them as much complete protein as possible.

Its so much fun giving my girls new foods to try! I have no idea why... it seems silly! We have a list of new foods to start on what date on the fridge. It makes me excited :)

    Good luck!

We didn't introduce 2nd foods and yogurt until about 8 months. The girls never cared for the mac-n-cheese from a jar, but really enjoyed the yogurt blends.

I know the Gerber mac n cheese with vegetables at least has some nutritional value...don't know the proportions of veggies to other stuff but it makes me feel a little better about giving it. I introduced it to my kiddos about 7 months, along with yogurt. DS has been on a bit of a bottle strike but will eat solids just fine, so in looking for solids that have fat, calories and protein, we came across the mac n cheese as well as the vegetable risotto with cheese. DS LOVES them and will gobble the whole jar...if I try feeding him veggies or cereal mixed with breastmilk it is an all day fight. I give the Yo Baby yogurt but not the yogurt blends because those have listed on the ingredients as having sugar added. So, each child is individual and you do what is best for your babies. If they are on regular milk based formula then there is no reason to worry about introducing foods with dairy in them...they just shouldn't have regular milk because they can end up anemic. Have fun figuring out what your babies like...mine are very different in what they eat and won't eat.

We started yogurt at 10 months. But we didn't start solids until 7 months. I agree to ask the pedi today. FWIW, my boys LOVE those yogurt blends even now!

Dr. said that we could go ahead and start the yogurt blends because he tells parents that he give the go ahead at 7 months and the boys will be 7 months on Saturday! Where did the time go??

My two love both the mac-n-cheese, and the yo-blends. There is also a yogurt blend for infants 6mo and up in the yogurt aisle of our grocery. Think its call yo-baby? Anyway, its a blend of yogurt, fruit, and veggie. They liked that too.

forgot to say we started @ 6mo.

We asked about yogurt at their 6 month appt and the dr said wait until closer to 9 months, but I started them at 7-7.5 months and they loved it! I use plain regular yogurt and mix it with jarred fruit or jarred cereal/fruit mixes. They get it at least once a day now! :D

I've tried mac n cheese a few times (not the baby food stuff but real stuff) and it bothers my dd who had reflux as a baby, so I put it off for a month or so before trying it again!
