Jack and Lily are 13.5mos. old and have been taking two naps at 9:30 and 2:30 for the past couple of months. Now, obviously, they are hit or miss with one of these naps each day. Four out of seven days a week they take them but the other days they skip one or the other. I cannot push back the morning nap to transition to one nap a day until our swimlessons (at noon) are over. Next week is our last week so I really have to keep trying to get them down around 9:30 for another week.

For the past few days they have been playing in their cribs during their 9:30 nap and taking a while to fall asleep. Today, they fell asleep around 10:30 and now it is 11:30. HELP...should I wake them up to preserve their afternoon nap (also because we have to be awake by 11:15 during the week for lessons) or should I let them sleep?

I know I should figure this out by myself but it helpst to write it out.

    Thanks,
    Amy

I think that 13 ish months is the time when they ALL start to resist their nap!! I might move the morning to 9:40 - just see if that extra 10 min. makes any difference. Then when swimming is over, try 10:00. Then you can wake them at 11:30 or 12:00 to preserve the p.m. nap that could start at 3:00 and go till 4 or 4:30 p.m. at the latest with a 7:30 max bedtime? Just some ideas for you!!

Ultimately, you are correct, you will work it out. But it does help to have it all written out like that!!!

We did what Diane said for a looonnng time! My girls typically wouldn't go down for their first nap until 10- 10:30 and their second nap at 3/3:30 and were still okay for a 7:30 bedtime.

We're just now transitioning to one nap (and it's a pain!)

I would say exactly what pp said, after swimming lessons are over start shifting their nap schedule. That's what we do, 10-10:30 morning nap anywhere between 3-4 afternoon nap bedtime between 7:30 and 8

What time do they wake? You could always try and earlier nap too.

Our guys went to one nap at 17 months. We just eliminated the late nap at that time- and pushed the first nap a bit back. They still take their one nap between 1030 and 11 am and have their lunch when they wake up. It works for us because during school, we have to leave to get their sis at 230ish- and they normally sleep until 1 or 2!
For you- my thoughts would be the same as everyone elses- try to hold out during swim lessons and then start pushing that first nap later. I think they are a bit too young for one nap??? You are definitely in the midst of that transitional time though!!!
    Best of luck,
    Lanie
