WWYD? Swaddle or not?

Ok, I never had to swaddle Evan like I did the twins. When I say 'swaddle' now, it means just basically wrap a blanket around his bottom (arms out). I have done this since he was born. He always 'breaks' free by morning. It is not tight by any means. He is almost 11 months now and I tried not putting a blanket around him for bed. He is blanket free during naps. For the last three nights, instead of the normal one time up a night, he's been getting up two times. Now that is not HORRIBLE, but it is still double what he gets up with the blanket around him. What would you do? Would you continue to put a blanket around him at night or would you just hope he grows out of that extra arrisal at night in time? Thanks!

I would do the blanket. Or have you tried the sleep sacs? We were devoted sleep sac users!

I second the sleep sac. We started using Grobags just after 6 months and they are great. They can flip around all night in them but it keeps them warm and no chance of the blanket getting up over their head.

We've been doing sleep sacks for most nights since ours grew out of the swaddle and that has been a huge help!

I started reg blankets around 7 months. I don't know if that's "bad" but I did. Can you just cover him with a blanket at night? I would think if you just cover his legs, chances are the blanket would move down, not up. Do you think it's the snugness he likes or is he cold at the first wake up? My kids hated swaddling/sleep sacks/etc, so I'm just playing devil's advocate.

He has been in this semi-swaddle since birth. It is confining to a point, just his legs. He'd been getting out of it for the past month or so. I find him out of it when he wakes in the morning (8-9am). What has always been in his crib is another blanket, which I also put on top of him and tuck in around him. That has not changed. He still has that blanket. It is just the last three night, I didn't put him in that modified swaddle.

Hmm...maybe it's something else that is waking him. Could he be getting a new tooth? I would probably stop the modified swaddle and give it a few more nights.

we started sleep sacks at 6 months when we started unswaddling-- a very tight swaddle... our little buggers move all over the crib and a blanket wouldn't stay on them! now that its warmer (FL), we're still in long sleep pjs and no sack...

I would try sleep sacks, we still use them!!! it is just confining enough for them to feel wrapped up :)
