I started cereal when the twins turned 5 months. My DD is not digging it. I've tried rice and oatmeal. (twice each with a few days in between) She gags, and won't open her mouth after the first bite. I figure she's just not ready which is totally fine. The thing is my DS is doing pretty good. He doesn't finish the bowl, but he doesn't gag either. LOL He's 2-3 lbs bigger than DD.

So should I back off both of them or just DD? I thought about waiting until 6 months with DD and trying again, but I don't know if I should make DS wait that long.

I would go ahead with the one who is ready. And maybe still offer it to your DD on occasion to see if she changes her mind. But if DS is ready and loving it, I'd go for it.

(And honestly, I can't blame her for not wanting to eat that stuff! :bad: You may find that when they are ready for veg/fruit that she does better.)

I would give what each child needs. They are 2 different children with 2 different needs. I would give one cereal and wait for the other one.

[IMG] Totally! The stuff is nasty. :bad: I never gave it to my kids for more than a couple weeks, just to adjust to eating more solids and I always mixed it with BM to help with the flavor.

I'm having the exact same problem! I've just give it to my DS and try DD once a week to see if she changes her mind. DS is eating cereal, bananas, sweet potatoes, and peas so far. He loves it all! I've given DD a taste of each but gags on it all so far.

Same thing here. Allie is ready and likes the oatmeal and rice but Maddie hates it. I did try some applesauce and Allie made some nasty faces but Maddie who hates the cereal liked it. I am thinking of mixing a little in with the cereal and trying that. I think Allie thought it was too tart. When I gave her a smaller bite and mixed with cereal she liked it. But even if Maddie isn't ready I will continue on with Allie. I will sit Maddie in the seat next to us when I feed Allie to get her used to the routine. I will try every week or so until she's ready.

I went through the same problem. I just fed it to DS and would try DD every day once or twice and see. She caught on a week or two after him and wanted it.

Ditto Alison. Different kids, different needs. DS started on solids at 8 months while DD wasn't ready until 10 months. They are just practicing for the first year, so there is absolutely no rush.

I too fed DS solids and let DD decide when she was ready to start.

I agree with all of the others. Feed it to ds, and offer it to dd. If she wants it, great. If not, no big deal. It's mostly practice at this point anyways. Good luck!

Thanks! At this point, DS isn't really showing much interest anymore either, so I may just hold off on both until 6 months and try again.
