I've got a thread in PC about planning a road trip. It looks like between 2 of my ideal destinations is 14 hours. Would you (or have you) traveled in the car for 14 hours with 2 3yo's and a 4yo? Am I  ?

Nope. :) I don't have the chutzpah for that. We did it with two 2 month olds, but they slept the whole time, until they got hungry, and they we stopped and fed them.

We did it with 2, 14 month olds, and a 6, 9 and 11 yo. The trip was actually closer to 18 hours. We did it in two days. It wasn't alot of fun, but our DVD player helped alot, plus lots of snacks and a big box of little toys.

We traveled back in April with our twins (25 months old at the time). An 8 hour trip turned into a 13 hour trip! We found out the hard way that you don't give Kaytlin a sippy of juice and crackers while traveling through downtown Nashville, TN....made her HORRIBLY car sick. That took us a good hour to clean up the car, her and us, yuck! But other then that, we had a great time. We have DVD players in the car and they watched movies the whole way down. We stopped several times to let them run around and explore. We are thinking of going back this xmas so I guess it wasn't too bad ;)

I say do it!! I've done 15.5 with two 2 year olds, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I can only see it getting easier as they get older. :good:

We just did! (2 3yos, but not another) They did great! They got these trays for their birthday and I packed a backpack for each with crayons, coloring books, books, a few toys, and they played great! We also put a few movies in and they slept a lot. All-in-all it went really well!

Everybody here is way braver than I am. We travel 4 hours one way for family and I cringe. It gets easier the older they get but I would rather just stay put. However, I do admire all of you that do it.

We went to Texas last Thanksgiving so they were 26 months then and it was a 15-hour trip (and I mean 15 hours according to Mapquest, not what it actually took us...) We split it over two days (I can't imagine trying to drive straight through). If you exclude the fact that DH got horribly ill the night between drives so I was up much of the night and then had to drive the entire next day, it wasn't that bad. It's not my favorite way to spend 2 days but we all survived. Fast food places with play gyms are VERY helpful for letting them run off their wiggles.

Last spring we did a 14 hour road trip with two 2 year olds and a 3 year old. We made it an overnight trip with lots of stops planned. We also bought a DVD player for the car and that helped a lot.

The year before we spent about 16 hours in the car with two 1.5 year olds, two almost 3 year olds, and a 4 year old. That was also a great trip, but we planned on stopping every few hours and staying overnight at a hotel with a swimming pool, so that was the exciting part for the kids.

If you want to make the trip, I say go for it! Just make the drive part of the fun and plan on stopping every few hours just to get out and run and play.

That's a very cool tray! Thanks for the link.

I've actually arranged the itinerary so that there are no stretches longer than 8 hours. This might turn into a 3 week trip instead of only 2, but the point is to have fun and not go completely crazy in the car. :)

    Thanks for the encouragement!

God bless you if you go - personally I wouldn't do it (but I haven't read your thread yet - I'll have to go check that out) but I am TERRIFIED of my kids getting carsick - I get terribly carsick but at least I know when its coming so I can pull over or open the window - they just would puke everywhere, plus too, they are totally in "I don't want to sit in my carseat for more than 40 minutes" mode now and start SCREAMING to get out if it takes too long to get somewhere....
