Would you do Synagis again if your insurance paid?

I found out from the pedi today that my insurance might approve a second year of Synagis. I wasn't expecting it at all, but now that they might actually get it I'm not sure if I really want them to have to suffer through all those shots. Although I wasn't happy about it, I was completely prepared to keep the girls home and not take them anywhere all winter to keep them healthy. They've already had 2 colds and a bout of bronchiolitis in the past 3 months and I don't even put them in day care. I guess if they got the Synagis I would feel a little more comfortable taking them out.

I probably would since they are covered and it would make you feel more at ease. Sorry about all the shots!

Yes we are getting them again. I just scheduled their shots yesterday for the next 6 months. I feel the same as you. I am DREADING all those shots (and the time I'm going to miss at work) but mine are in daycare and my oldest is in 1st grade. I'd feel so guilty if they caught it b/c I chose not to get the shots.

OUCH! Those shots were so terrible last year; I can't imagine another season of them. Yes, I would likely do it again if it were offered. Remember . . . it is better to be safe than sorry!

Oh yes. The shots were such a pain (literally and figuratively) but worth it if your kids are still considered at-risk. We had a nurse come to our house to give the shots. That made it so much easier. If you haven't already, you might want to see if your insurance covers a home nurse.

We were approved for the first two years as well and my kids had the shots. It was a pain (as pp mentioned) but I think it was worth it.

I would definently get them again. My girls had them them last year and if my insurance approved I def would. I know its hard but better to be safe than sorry!

I would definitely have gotten them again if insurance paid for a second year. It is horrible, the boys hated every second, but so worth it!

I don't know -- my insurance didn't cover them the first season, although they were supposed to. Long story, but I was really peeved.

How bad were the shots? Were there any side effects? And, I thought the main issue was lung maturity -- are your girls really at increased risk this year?

If they were covered yes I definitely would have. But I would not count on them be covered a 2nd year. We did not qualify for them for a 2nd winter and mine were 3 months early. But if we would have qualified, yes I would have gotten them.
