My husband's family had planned a shower for me tomorrow. When I went on modified bedrest, they wanted to cancel it, but I convinced them to instead move it so that it would be here at my house rather than at his sister's house. Now that I'm on more of a full bedrest, they're really pressuring me to cancel it. I don't want to. I really want to see everyone, and think it would be a good "last hurah!" for me. The doctor said it was ok to go downstairs once a day to move to the couch, so that's what I'd do. I don't feel the need to get all spruced up or anything, I just want to see everyone. Am I crazy??
If you have the energy and are up to it - don't cancel it. I was on full bedrest when my sister had my Baby shower. We changed the location to my house. I basically sat down on the chaise w/ my feet up and watched everyone enjoy themselves. They played games and ate all around me. I was pampered - they brought me food and water, etc. And when it came time to openning the presents - the presents were brought to me one at a time. We even played Bingo during the openning of presents. Basically everyone was handed a blank bingo paper. Guests had to fill it in guessing what presents I would receive - but could only put in the square once. First one to reach bingo - by filling up the entire card would get a prize. It was lots of fun and it allowed the guests to be patient. It was a great time seeing everyone! Have fun!!!
We did the same as Veronica just described and I had a great time. I was flat out in my recliner and everyone waited on me hand an foot...how nice! I also think it would have been fun to have the shower a few weeks after I got home with the babies, so maybe that's an option too.
Absolutely Do not cancel. I was also on bedrest even before the shower, and I laid in the recliner downstairs for the whole shower. DH was there to help me open gifts. I didn't move around much, and it was great to see everyone. I would just make sure that you are "in place" on the couch before anyone arrives, that way you get your seat. Some ppl thought I should have the shower after the babies, but i knew I would get things at the shower which i would need right away, so we had the shower at 30 wks preggo. I was very relieved to have everything sitting there waiting for me.
Thank you, ladies. I just talked to my mother-in-law, and told her that she just CAN'T take my shower away from me!!!! So everyone will be here tomorrow, and I'll plant myself on the couch. I have so little control over anything right now, it feels good to do what I want to do.
I had my shower while on full bedrest. I came downstairs and sat on my chaise lounger the whole day. I would not cancel it, just make sure you take it very easy and have your DH open most everything.
i would have it if you were up to it. i was on bedrest too when my shower was planned. i called the dr. and discussed it and she told me what i can and cannot do. basically, i just sat w/ my legs up while everyone else did the work. but i was so glad i could attend it...it meant the world to me!
I would love to have a baby shower still on bedrest! Mine has been moved until after we come home and I'm nervous about how I can handle that. My babies will more than likely be preemie. I'll be recovering from 3+ months of hospital bedrest while trying to breastfeed twins. Plus, I won't really know what I need to get beforehand since my shower is later. I just wish the people throwing my shower were a little more sensitive I guess. They probably think they're being really nice to have it after, but in reality it's just stressing me out! I hope you have fun either way...
Congrats on geting your baby shower! It will make you feel better to interact with everyone and get those presents!! Mine never happened I went in the hospital on the day before it was suppose to happen and it made me even more depressed not getting one!! So, I think you are doing the right thing! I hope you enjoy! Take Care
Don't cancel your baby shower, i feel it will make you feel really good, a lil break from being alone on bedrest all day long, if it was me i would really go for it and have fun, its a good thing that you moved it to your home, you can be comfortable and enjoy it better i think Congratulations on your baby shower again
We had the shower, and it was fabulous. My daughter opened the presents, and she had a fabulous time too. Thanks, Ladies.
