Has anyone ever bought an infant seat of Ebay or would you? We need a 2nd infant seat and i found one on Ebay that looks like the one we already have. The price and the shipping would be half of what we would buy for one brand new. I"m just nervous that it would maybe not be safe enough. I would obviously have it checked over before i put the baby in it, but is it worth it? What do you think?

Is it new or used? I would never buy a used carseat of any kind. I don't think I'd buy a carseat off e-bay.

I wouldn't buy it. If it's used you don't know if it's been in an accident and since you can't see it in person you really don't know the condition.

My fear would be about an accident they are useless once they have one tiny crack is all it takes! I would just try to find one new.

I would never buy a used carseat off ebay - or from anywhere! Unless a very good friend was selling a used car seat and I knew the history there is just too much risk.

I would vote NO as well.. I would rather have different looking carseats than an unsafe one.

If the seat is new in the box go for it... If not don't. Even if they say the seat is in excellent condition you never know if it has been in an accident. Also, if it is listed as new in box ask if they can check the date of manufacture. I know that car seats can be expensive, but this is one area where you don't want to skimp... Seats are really only good for 5-6 years and if they are in an accident they are supposed to be disposed of.... Lots of people sell out of date and seats that have been in accidents...

As far as seats that look different... We had 2 new ones for our boys and they not only looked different they were different brands. Honestly, you can get a new infant seat for under 100.00... It's not a Britax, but Graco has pretty good saftey ratings... They start around 90.00...

We had mis-match infant seats for our twins. We had one from our son and just got another one from BRU that was on clearance because the pattern was discontinued. (Saved us $30)

Used, never! Did the seller mention the Date of Manufacturing at all? So many people sell expired car seats but "forget" to mention they're expired.

I bought a new one, in box, very recent DOM and from an authorized seller on eBay but otherwise, no thanks!

I agree with PP's. Car seats protect the health and safety of your children and those are two things that I would not take my chances on. While you may get a good deal from eBay, I don't think it's worth the risk. I would imagine there are lots of other great deals for other non-health/safety items that you could purchase and save money on. :)
