Does anyone else have a hard time burping their babies?? Mine are the worst to burp and I have tried everything. I spend most of the feeding time burping. Any tips are tricks would be great! Here is what I have tried. Over the shoulder and up on shoulder, bent over, laying across lap, bouncing up and down. Is there something I am not doing?? Thanks in advance! :D

Oh, uggh! Mine used to be really bad, too. My DS would let out blood-curdling screams as soon as took the bottle away, and he would get so worked up, he'd spit-up more because of it, as far as we could see.

Then we started using a pacifier while we burped him. Oftentimes, as soon as he calmed down, the burps would come out without us having to do too much.

Sometimes I'll burp a rhythm on their back, and that seems to distract them/relax them enough to burp.

I've also tried singing to them, and sometimes it'll do the same thing.

    Hope it gets better soon!

One of mine is awful too! A lot of times I just have to keep at it for long enough - which is sometimes half an hour!

Two things I've found (with mine):

Laying down flat for a couple of minutes. So I'll feed, try to burp (you never know, sometimes they come quick, right?), and then lay him down - it's a good time for a diaper change. And then pick him back up and go for the burp. Sometimes I also rub his belly while he's laying down. Risky business though - if the burp comes up while he's still down, he'll usually spit up. I've learned to recognize the signs.

Steady pressure on his back instead of patting. So I'll lean him up against my shoulder (not over, just against) and push, gently but firmly. Hold a couple seconds, and release, and then repeat.

Not foolproof by any means, but those are the most reliable ways for me to get a burp.

Hold on to the baby tightly and slowly tip her upside down for just a second. Do this 2-3 times and then try burping again. That helps move the air bubble to the top of the stomach. This was the suggestion of the nurses in our reflux program.

My MIL taught me a trick that works for Ryan, but makes Jake puke. I guess it's worth a try!

From the laying down position, slowly move the baby into a sitting position and hold them there. No patting, just rubbing the back if needed.

the one trick we noticed that seems to work when nothing else has worked is rubbing or brushing their hair.

The best way that worked for ours was to put them in a sitting position on my thigh and support their chin with my thumb and first finger and rub their back with the other hand in a circular motion or pat.

my boyfriend does this thing that works everytime he picks them up like if you were playing with them, both hand on the stomach and raise them above your head worked every single time, they will burp or fart. Also my dad does the rhythms on the back with his fingertips in the center of their back it does work but takes a minute. This woman at a birthday party taught me the most succesful on take the baby hold them like a football, lying across one arm and pat their back or rock them back and forth. That works to immediately stop the crying and gets them to burp pretty quick. Good Luck!
