    Hey ladies~

After reading some of the posts on this forum I really worry that i'm not big enough. Im 30 weeks today. I've gained about 30 or so pounds. I'm 5'7.5 so i'm hoping this is why i don't look huge. Will I grow alot between now and say... 36 weeks. The girls weighed 3 lbs and 3 oz and 2lbs and 8 oz at appt last week. I guess I should be glad I'm not huge because I have had enough problems at this size. Just concerned???? What do yall think?

As long as your babies are growing and the doc is satisfied with their growth, I wouldn't beat myself up and compare too much to others. Your height and body frame, how you carry babies will be different than another individual.

I grew alot between 28 weeks and now!

i gained 100 lbs and had two six lb babies at my induction at 35 weeks so I KNOW I was big enough. To be honest-- you're probably about half the size you "should" be.. Start eating chz burgers NOW!! It's just better for the babies. Did you read Dr. Lukes book??

Either way, it will be fine I am sure but I'd start packing on the lbs now.

I've gained about 35 lbs. here at 32w6d, and my babes were est. to weigh 3#12oz. and 4#15oz. at 32 weeks. . . by 35 weeks, if they continue along their curve, the bigger one will be at about 6 lbs. plus, and the smaller one would be about 5 lbs. plus. (We have TTTS.)

I say this just to say that you don't have to add 100# in order to have healthy sized babies. I politely disagree with the pp concerning your weight gain. It's impossible for us to determine what you should/shouldn't gain because we don't know your physical composition, other health factors, and starting weight, frame size, torso length, etc.

I will say that you should eat as healthy as possible, lean proteins and such. . . if you are concerned, ask your doc about the protein shakes for extra nutrition. Anyways, this all my opinion - informed by the things I've read and my docs (OBs and MFM specialists).

Thanks ladies for your thoughts. I feel better now. I just hope that my stomach grows a good bit in the next 4-6 weeks. i'm sure i'm going to put on weight too being that i am on bed rest and have no activity whatsoever going on right now. Before I got pregnant i was a smaller. I was 5'7.5, 138lbs and wore mainly size 6. Now I weigh about 175 but it looks like most of my weight gain is in by stomach. everything else seems to have just filled out. My butt has definately changed too so i'm sure some weight has gone there but over all the weight seems to be in my stomach.

Emily, I hate you are in the hospital. I bet you are going out of your mind. What does TTTS stand for? I hope everything goes well for you! Thanks for everyones feedback!

Good post. I am 22 1/2 weeks and I have gained 24 lbs, however, I am 5'6 and ALL belly. I also read Dr. Barbara Luke's book and she highly recommend gaining the weight early on just in case you were preterm. The protein drink I consume 2x/a day is BOOST =high protein/calorie drink. The protein is what's really important for body building. Drinking milk is always a plus as well.

Good weight gain on the babies, Emily....!!!

You are right about the persons body build. everyone is different. As long as you maintain a very healthy diet, lean meat/chicken, fruits, veggies, milk, walnuts, egg whites, protien bars (south beach is actually very good) protein drinks, and drink lots of water -I think it's pretty darn possible to have nice healthy babies. I ate like this w/my son last year and he was born at 38 weeks and weighed 8lbs 3oz. Diet is HUGE (no pun) for a woman to be healthy and have healthy babies.

    Have a great day!

I gained 30 lbs the whole pregnancy. I delivered at 38 weeks. As long as your Dr doesnt express concern it doesnt matter. At this stage , It starts to get hard to eat, so the babies eat everything that you do. Dont be surprized if you dont gain anymoore.. It just depends if the babies are gaining.. And they soind like a GREAT size to me!! ;)

By the time I delivered at 35 weeks + 6 days, I had only gained 30-35 pounds total. The boys weighted 5 lb 1 oz and 6 lb 7 oz and were perfectly healthy. The dr. was not at all concerned about the weight gain and actually called it "remarkable". I also was back to prepregnancy weight within a week. I wouldn't worry unless the dr. expresses a concern.

I do not think you need to gain 100 lbs either - you need to eat healthy - if the babies are growing then all is fine. I delivered at 32 weeks after 6 weeks of bed rest - I never took protein drinks or ate more than I normally would. I do not know what I gained, I am guessing not more than 30. My babies were 4.2 and 3.8. Listen to your doctor and don't fill up on high fatty foods. It adds weight to you but nothing good to the baby.

Try not to worry. The babies are very good "parasites" (taking what they need). I only gained 7 pounds due to severe hyperemesis (puking the whole pregnancy) and had healthy - 5 pound 13 ounce and 5 pound 3 ounce babies at 38 weeks. Just try to eat healthy and lots of protein.
    Good luck

Gained only 40+ lbs, delivered at 37 weeks and the babies were 5.11 and 5.8. No NICU time and went home with us.
I think the *quality* of the weight you gain is more important than the quantity. And no one knew I was having twins until the 22 week u/s. I wasn't measuring big and no one had a clue. Even at delivery I measured only about 43 cm.

I'm tall too at 5'11", and my stomach didn't grow much at all until 30 weeks (everyone was so disappointed when they'd see me as I didn't really look too pregnant). I'm at 32 weeks now, and it has grown a ton in the past two weeks. I think the babies had a lot of room inside my torso, and they when they ran out, my belly has grown outwards at a rapid rate. My weight gain has been steady and moderate, and I followed Dr. Luke's book also. I'll bet your belly will start to really grow outwards any time now!

FWIW I read Dr. Luke's book, ate everything not nailed down, drank at least 3 protein boost shakes a day and was on moderate bedrest most of the pregnancy trying to gain weight and still only gained 24 lbs. No one ever was concerned about my weight because the babies were growing and they were born healthy despite ttts at 36 weeks weighing 4 lbs and 5.5 lbs no nicu and came home with us from the hospital. Sometimes no matter what you do you can't gain weight. Funny thing when I'm not pregnant I practically gain looking at food. Maybe your babies are getting all the calories and nutrients. Good luck.

I had similar issues to you when I was pregnant with mine (have to update ticker). Over the entire pregnancy, I gained about 34 pounds, and even though my dr said it was on the low side, she wasn't worried at all because all the ultrasounds and my tummy measurement indicated that the twins were doing really well and gaining weight. I ate as much as I could, but it appeared it was all going to the babies. For the record, I'm only about a half inch taller than you.

I gave birth to my two at 38 weeks exactly. My little girl (A) was 6 pounds 11 oz, and my little boy (B) was 6 pounds 14 oz, which the drs said were very good weights for both of them. Don't let your weight gain get you down, as long as your babies are gaining weight, then its not an issue. I think there is too much pressure put on mums of multiples to gain large amounts of weight. For some of us, no matter what we do, it just doesn't happen.

The entire time I was pregnant people kept telling me they couldn't tell I was pregnant with twins. I was only a little bigger than I had been with my singleton. Until the last four weeks of my pregnancy which was when I had exploded with growth. My babies were always on the small side according to the u/s. As a matter of fact, the last visit with my OB she said I had to keep the babies in as long as I could because they were too small; I had them about three days later. They ended up being over 5 lbs a piece. So, even though I was told they were small because of the u/s, they were off almost two pounds on their weight (I was told they were only about 3 or at most 4 lbs a piece). If you are taking care of yourself and doing what you should, then you are probably fine. Everyone carries babies different, and just because you don't "look" big doesn't mean that the babies aren't fine. All the women on my dad's side of the family carried babies well (they never got really large) so it could just be genetics that you aren't "big".

You are just fine!! I only gained about 35lbs when I delivered at 34.5 weeks. Both the babies measured 5Lbs and 4 lbs. I measured 37 weeks for a single pregnancy! NO ONE thought I was pg with twins, NO ONE- Of course I felt it!! As long as the babies are good weights via ultrasound you are fine. Actually pouring crap into your body will not help anyone! Protein is your best bet to pump up the babies weights. I ate an amazing amount of protein (salmon- not cheese burgers) I also drank Boost- every night- ate a ton of yougurt and drank crazy amounts of milk and water. I was really litte. I am a size 0, 105 lbs and was very concerned abount early delivery and tiny babies- I did it so can you. Just keep a REALLY good eye on their weights and carry them as long as possible. My docs did an ultrasound every week. I did not believe the techs about the weights until they were born. The surgeon could not believe how flat my stomach went right after the delivery(S). I was truly ALL baby (babies)

By the way I am back down to pre pregnancy size and you will be too. You are NOT 1/2 the size you should be. Truly the ultrasound and your Dr. know best. PM me if youd like.

Sorry to pick on the above poster but I am an Dr. in Exercise Physiology and Sports Medicine and it kills me to read advice like that. HTH

I'm sure she had your best interest at heart.

I had gained the same as you by this stage. My belly only measured 40 weeks at 38 weeks but I my babies weighed 5 pounds and 6 pounds, 4 ounces. It's true, as everyone has said, as long as your babies are growing and you're taking care of yourself, everyone will be fine :)

Did I say anyone "NEEDED to gain 100 lbs"???????????????????

I did not.. I was making FUN of myself, thank you! Jeez. Emily and Debbie.. I was TRYING to express the fact that I was on the OPPOSITE end of the spectrum and gained too much weight!! I do not think that my post implied in ANY way shape or form that I did the "right" thing! Man..

All I am saying is that if you read ANY books.. You will see that for a twin pregnancy about 60 lbs is AVERAGE.

The OP asked.. and I answered with MY experience. Sometimes I think people get a little too self righteous with THEIR opinions if someone else has a different one.

Groovy if you're 30 lbs and lose it all the day you give birth, that's GREAT! But can other people have different experiences and still be OKAY?

OP- good luck and sorry if I answered your question.. I guess you need to listen to the other people cuz they must be right.

    Are you referring to me??

I really really hope not, because IF you are- it's really rude and you shouldn't act like YOU "know" what is best for everyone.

If it "kills you'' to read advice like "that", then don't read it. And I am not a DOCTOR like you so I didn't ADVISE anyone.. I gave my opinion/experience which is what we're doing here.. RIGHT?

It's rude to say things like this and it is indeed "picking on" someone.

I've noticed that the only people answering the OP are people who gained like 30 lbs.. and no one is "pouring anything into their body".

If we're going to throw credentials out there to justify being rude- I just don't think I'll post here anymore.

If you were not referring to me then sorry.

I had only gained 28 lbs. at 28 weeks ... and then between 28 weeks and 36 (when I delivered), I put on another 30 lbs!!!! So don't count your chickens just yet -- you may still explode in the final weeks like I did :p (And my babies were a healthy 4 lbs, 9 oz and 5 lbs, 12 oz with no NICU time at all.)

I gained 38ish pounds. I had healthy five pounders born at 38 weeks with no NICU time. They were born vaginally and came home with us 48 hours after birth. I hope this helps you :) . Sounds like you're doing great!
