I was just reading another post about babies being too big, but I feel like I have the opposite! My boys were born at 37 weeks 6lb. 10oz. and 5lb. 11oz. I just weighed them two days ago and their weights were 15lb. 2oz. and 14lb. Up until this week they were getting 5 7-8oz. bottles a day, but we are now on 4 8oz. bottles and 1-2 solid meals a day. My smaller boy has been STTN(8p-7a) since 2months and my other has been STTN since 3 months. They had been taking 5 8oz. bottles for about 2 months, which seems like a lot, but I feel like they just don't pack on the weight like other babies.

I have read a lot about premies passing my boys in weight and I just wonder if they have a high metabolism or just don't gain weight as good. :babyflips:

They might just have a growth spurt later or maybe they will have a smaller frame. What size are you and your DH compared to the rest of the population?

My girls are over 2 years old and are only 24 pounds each. Between 6 and 12 months one of my girls only gained 2 pounds. We think they are going to be petite.

I am 5'4" and hubby is 5'7". At birth the boys were 17" and 17.5".

My girls are two weeks younger than your boys and they only weigh 11.5 lbs. Don't worry about them weighing too little. Our society has a weird idea that if your baby doesn't have rolls on their rolls that they are too skinny and unhealthy. Babies are little people, they gain weight at different rates and pack on the pounds differently. DH and I are both tall (5'11" and 6'3") and our girls are still in the 10% for height and the 13% for weight. Everyone grows differently :)

(My girls were born at 36 weeks 6 days)

Wow that can give me a complex you think they are small. My babes were born at 35 weeks at 4.11 and 5lbs and now at 3 months weight about 7&1/2-8lbs. My DD was the same way, it just took her f-o-r-e-v-e-r to gain. It is frustrating but she was always advanced in her developmental milestones and the boys are right on track, they are just peanuts! Your babies sound like they have fine weights as far as I can tell!

My boys are skinny (17lb @ 10mos - 2% for weight, 28.5inches), sometimes I wish they had lovely chubby rolls but then I realize how much we save in clothing!! Both DH and I are average height me- 5'7 DH 5'10 so I guess my boys will be somewhere in there. Just to add- my brother was never out of the 10th percentile while growing up now at 28 he is 6'2 and 200+lbs - shocks the daylights out of old friends!

Hmmmm, your babies sound like they're doing fine to me. Seems like they consume plenty of food; in fact, they eat more than mine do...6 oz. is a big meal for my two. They may just have a petite build. At almost 7 months of age, my DD is only 15 lb. 6 oz. and DS is 16 lb. 5 oz. (they were born at 36 wks weighing 4.1 and 5.2). DH is 5'10 and I am 5'4. I wouldn't worry if your pedi isn't worried. :)

It sounds like they are doing just fine to me. Babies gain at different rates & a lot will depend on your size & your husband's size. As long as they are healthy & staying on their own growth curve, I wouldn't worry.

I have had all kinds of issues with my boys weight. They were preemies, but one of my DS is on the 5th percentile for his adjusted wait--7 months! So I get worried and sad, and then I just realize, my DH and I are not big people and as long as he is healthy and developing normally, I need to get over it. My other DS is on the 15th percentile for his actual age now, so he's doing great. They are about 18 lbs and 15 lbs. It's funny b/c my pedi always makes comments about my DS's weight and therefore makes me worry, but the GI keeps mne going by saying he is doing fine--he's not gaining tons, but he's staying on the growth chart and more important developoing normally!! If htey were girls, i don't think I would worry as much b/c if they are petite, it's not as big of a deal.

I think your boys sound like they are doing great, so try not to worry and definitely try not to compare (even though its hard!). One of my friends just had a 9 1/2 lb baby--I told her he was going to be bigger than my boy in about 2 months!!! :pardon:

 I have been in your shoes! I was in your shoes from 6 months til our 15 month check up. I think that just as adults come in all different shapes and sizes, so do babies.

Mine are smaller too... just 14.5 lbs at 7 months. But I think the PED just wants to see a consistant growth (be it slow or fast). I think they become more concerned if your baby is in the 50% and then drops to the 10% or vice-versa or are not on the chart at all. And anyway, recent studies are showing that really large babies have an increased risk for all sorts of health issues when they become adults so cute baby rolls are not always all they are cracked up to be! So as long as your PED is happy you should not worry...

I worried about my DS's weight gain until he hit 6 months old. He was 5.4 at birth (DD was 7.2 so it was hard not to compare/worry) and at 4 months he was 14.12, but I was convinced he was not big enough and continued to stress. However the doctors were very pleased with his size especially since he'd almost tripled his birth weight at that point. Now looking back at his pictures he looked nice and round and I don't know why I was so concerned.

I've read that most babies who are born at average size (between 6 and 8 pounds) double their weight between 4 and 5 months and triple their weight by one year. It sounds like your boys are right on track! If they are eating normally, having wet/dirty diapers like normal, active and alert I'd say they are growing just how they should. :)

My two year old just past the 20 lbs mark. so yeah you are doing great. each kid follows a line on the growth chart and as long as they keep on A line and keep on that (3, 5th, 10th, etc.) then things are good.

A great book on feeding is called "child of mine:feeding with love and good sense" really good from baby to older child. Worth the read for any mom.

I worried about this incessantly when they were younger. Around 6 months the boys were hovering around 13lbs, at a year they were 17.5/18lbs, at 16 months hit 20lbs, and at nearly 3, they are 28lbs (the boys have always been near the 3rd percentile for weight and 20% for height). They were always maintaining their growth curve so I tried not too worry too much.

Baby girl at 11 months was 20lbs and she's "average" for weight and tall for her height. People tell me all the time that my "average" baby is skinny...no she's average. I'll give you that the boys are skinny because they are! Ha!

All babies grow at different rates, and our ped noted that my husband and I are both of average height and build so we shouldn't expect "bigger" children. As long as they are eating well and growing/gaining with their curve, they are fine. You kiddos sound perfect!
