I have two girls; they will be 12 weeks on Wed. and they are fraternal, so I try not to compare them too much. My baby Claire is just darling, but since she was about a week old, her head has been very long shaped. She seems to have a big head, anyway - and so does my brother and dad so that may run in our side of the family. But it is unusually narrow and long - not at all like the typical round-ish baby head. She doesn't lay on her back with her head looking up because it is long on the back and it seems she is uncomfy trying to lay on it. When she wakes up, the side she just slept on is flat and tall - and it takes an hour or so for her head to go back to its usual shape.

She seems fine otherwise; no developmental delays, and is a generally very happy little girl who is learning to smile and coo. But it has been bothering me since week one. Our pedi says she is fine and doesnt' seem worried, but I just can't shake my concern.

    If you were me, WWYD?

    Here is Claire recently: http://www1.snapfish.com/slideshow/AlbumID...54/t_=102132054

    Thanks for your advice!

I used to worry about the boys having a flat head (mainly b/c they hated tummy time), but my dr. said they were doing well. We really did a lot of tummy time at 3 months as I got more and more worried. Are you worried about the flatness? If so I would do as much tummy time as Claire enjoys. I think the shape of her head is pretty normal. One of my friends' children both have heads shaped just like that. I think it's a hereditary shape, but you should still voice your concerns at the next ped appointment.

ETA: I forgot to tell you how adorable she is! What good head control too!

My boys heads are kind of shaped like that and so is my husbands. My Doctor did say that is a premie shaped head and it may change, but I don't think so because that head shape seems to run in the family. Her head looks fine to me, and I thought the same thing about my boys not being able to have their heads lay the right way, but I was wrong. Once they were ready they could easily move their big heads around :D

She is very cute!! I used to worry about the head shape of my twosome, especially since they hated tummy time. The shape of her head looks normal to me in her picture but I would say if you continue to be concerned, there is no harm in bringing it up to your pedi again and asking for a recommendation to have it looked at.

If you are concerned, which it sounds like you are, I would bring it up to your Ped. I am sure they can ease your mind about it.

I would agree with Rachel here. If you are concerned, it doesn't hurt to bring it up to your ped. Adorable is the first word that came to my mind!

Our girls came home from the NICU with what the nurses called "toaster head" from lying on their sides of their heads all the time. Try as they might, they could not get the girls to lay with their heads facing up in the air. Our pedi says not to worry about it, that the head is still "moldable" until 9 months. We do as much tummy time as the girls can stand every day and also lay them flat on their backs under the play gym getting them interested in looking up at the lights and toys. They still have "long" heads IMO, but the pedi is not concerned.

She is adorable! I do agree with Rachel, that if you are concerned you should definitely bring it up with your pediatrician.

One of mine has a head similar to Claire's. The head shape changes as they grow so I am not concerned. Maya's is already getting better although I don't think she ever have a square shaped head like her sister's, LOL. If the ped is not concerned she is likely ok.

Very cute!! I was also worried about my dd's head. It seemed to have a "dent" on one side and I brought it up to our ped at the 2-month appt and he said it was fine, it would correct itself, and it did.
