Worried about Dehydration

It seems like the only time I post here is when I have problems and I'm not sure what to do. Friday afternoon, night and all day Saturday my daughter could not keep anything down except for baby food. DS the same. She had one bout of diaherra yesterday and that was it. I really have not noticed any wet diapers except for yesterday. Today she is eating and I have been pushing pedialtye into her. She has taken about 13 ozs total of it and she has kept it down. She woke up and the diaper was not very wet at all. I'm not even sure if it was wet. Since then she has not had a wet diaper but she did have a BM. For the most part she is acting okay except tired and her hands and feet are cold. I'm not sure if I should wait and see if the pediatlye is working or go ahead and call the doctor. She has been smiling today and was even playing pat a cake with me. How long does it take for pedialtye to work? She is able to keep it down now so she is getting liquid into her but its the lack of wet diapers and the cold feet and hands.

Of course my husband does not know what to do. He went out to play paint ball and said that he may be able to hear his phone if I need him. He thinks I should wait and see if the pedialtye works.

    Thanks for letting me vent.

If you are worried, call your ped. He will tell you exactly what to do and you will feel better. :hug99:

Some things my doctor told me when I was worried about dehydration:

Give an oz of pedialyte every half hour for three hours, if they keep it down, push it up to 2oz, etc.
Check their mouth and eyes and see if they are dry. Also, if that area on their head that is open, I can't remember the name, but on the front top, the soft spot.. my doctor said if that is indented inwards, it's a sign of dehydration. If they aren't dehydrated, their eyes will be watery.
    That's all I can remember. :hug99:

My ped wants a call if they go 8 hours without a wet diaper. Good luck. Hope everyone is better soon!

I just put a call in, so hopefully they will call back soon. She is drooling a little but no tears when she crys. The soft spot on her head feelslike it is sunken in. She is still drinking pedialite but still no wet diapers since yesterday.

:hug99: Hope you can get that baby feeling better soon, and that you don't have to wait around endlessly at the hospital! I'll be thinking of you.

We are home. Three hours of pretty much nothing that I could not have done at home. I have been giving her nothing but liquids all day but that didn't seem to work either. At the hospital they wanted me to push more on her. They didn't want to give her an IV without trying more pedialtye first. I warned them that she couldn't tolerate more at the moment because she had just had some at home but they still pushed them and of course it all came back up. She did end up have a very little wet diaper so they sent us home with directions to make an appointment tomorrow or bring her back if she gets worse. Everything checked out good with her except it still takes a little longer for the color to come back when the finger or another part of her body is touched. I feel that I could have done all this at home since they did not give her an IV. One little wet diaper in over 24 hours. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

    Thanks again.

:hug99: Big big hugs! What an ordeal, going to the hospital just for that. You did the right thing, though.

I hope tomorrow is a better day!

So far she is doing better. She woke up at 330 am. to eat and her diaper was nice and wet. This was one of the times I was happy to get a wake up call at 330 am. Of course DS had to get up to but he always has to be part of the action. It looks like we are finally turning the corner. Hopefully she won't have any problems today. Thanks for all your well wishes. I'm glad there is a place to go and turn for advice.

I'm happy to hear about the wet diaper! :clapping: My rule with dehydration is always better safe than sorry. Dehydration can affect babies quickly (and badly) because they are so small.
