Worried about DD's weight...

My DD seems to be developmentally fine. She's been crawling forward since 6.75 months, is happy, self-soothes well, is trying to climb up on things and generally is a very easy baby. (Thankfully, as DS is another story!). Anyway, I'm really worried that she seems not to be growing. She gained 10 ounces between months 6 and 7 and at 7 months weighed 13lbs 6 ounces. The twins were full-term, delivered at 38w1d via c-section. She was 5lbs 12 ounces at birth and DS was 4lb 10 ounce. He just keeps getting bigger and bigger and is approaching 17lbs (he gained 14 ounces between months 6 and 7). I haven't called the pediatrician yet. I was in the office for the flu shot and had the babies weighed at 7 months but didn't see the doctor.

I've been breast feeding from the start and I've been feeding solids since 6 months. I mix whole fat yogurt into the food and lots of cereal. I save the cream top on the yogurt and mix it into my DD's food as that should be even higher calories. Normally they both eat pretty well, splitting three or four 4-oz jars between the two of them at most meals.

I'm 5'6 and average boned, normal weight and my DH is 5'8, average boned and normal weight. I know we are not giants but I just have this sense that my little girl is stuck in time.

Am I being overly worried? Can you suggest anything else to "plump" her up??

    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't worry too much - if she's happy, healthy and growing, active and all that I wouldn't worry about "fattening" her up...at 7 mos my DD was 12 lb 12 oz - and now at 19 mos she's barely 20 lbs...

My girls are peanuts too. They were just weighed at their 5 month appt. and were 11 pounds 4 oz. each ... Meredith had only gained 9 oz. and Hannah 13 oz. in the last month. I BF exclusively too and CRIED when they were weighed b/c I thought for sure my doc would be mad and say we had to supplement (and they won't take bottles so I forsaw this huge struggle) but she came in and was like "WHAT IS WRONG?" and I was like ... their weights are horrible ... and she said, Traci, they are FINE! I would tell you if there was any reason to worry. They were 4 pounds at birth and were gaining like 2 pounds a month ... I think growth just slows as they get older and mine are a little of a struggle to feed b/c they would rather smile and coo at me than nurse these days. They were 5% on the GC and now they are like 2% and she said ... think about it, if a baby went from 60% to 57% we wouldn't think twice about it ... they are tracking along fine ... it is FINE! She probably said the word fine like 10 times =) =) I must be a notorious worry-wart! I wouldn't worry at all unless she is losing weight. Also, is she more active? My girls are kicking and trying to roll and sit and are VERY active. It may just be that she is burning more kcals too.

Just remember that breastmilk has WAY more calories and fat than solids, so if you feeding her 8oz of solids at meals then she is most likely filling up on that and not on breastmilk, unlike formula that you can see decrease when solids are started you need to be very careful when bfing.
I would cut back on the solids.

I think she sounds just fine. I just took mine and they are 6months and a week and they weighed 16lbs.45oz & 16lbs.75oz & 26inches long. Maybe she is just going to petite.

My boys don't weigh much either. When they went to their 9 month appointment they both weighed 14 pounds. They go next week for their one year and I bet they still haven't reached 20!

I think she's just fine. My DD's were barely 18 pounds at 12 months, and the pedi was absolutely fine with that.

Totally agree! It also sounds like she's probably fine. If she were really undernourished, she wouldn't be happy, healthy, and meeting all those milestones. If you're concerned about her weight, I'd just try offering the breast more often, and maybe instead of solids, like Kristi said.

Thank you all for your encouragement...I'm going to increase my BFing, ease off the solids, and enjoy her as she is!

    Thanks again.

Some babies are on the 5%, some on the 95% (my kids are all on the top of the curves) ... I worry too much about them (especially my oldest) getting too fat, although she exercises, eats well (although she's very proportional 95% for height and weight), I limit her intake of certain things ... as long as she's growing, eating well, happy ... try not to worry.

Beau was 3.5 pounds at birth and is now 19.5 so a big bruiser and Savannah was 4 lbs 11 oz at birth and just now 16 pounds. ;) I think that it is a girl vs boy thing sometimes... She sounds healthy and happy so dont worry!

My dd is tiny too, at 14 months she is barely 20 lbs. She out eats her two older brothers! She just has a high metabolism!
